Thanks for the homelink videos as it helped me out tremendously. Ive now successfully installed a homelink rear view mirror i got from a nissan maxima in the junkyard, in my 06 corolla sports. I hookedup it up to the ignition wire behind the radio. Keep up the great work sir! God bless!
Nice video. For those watching do all your soldering and taping before installing the wires also cut your wires at different lengths so you eliminate a big bump when taping.
Great addition to your vehicle.
The best instruction video on this subject. There is nothing left for this installer to guess about. Great job!
You made this video right in time. I have one of these mirror to install in a 2012 Ford Escape
just what i was looking for. I Love your videso as they gave great explanation and detail. You got a new sub and keep up the great work.
Thanks for the sub!
Very well done. I just bought a car that has one of these mirrors, but there is no wiring connected. Any ideas on how to find the correct plug that goes in the back of the mirror?
Good job!
awesome job my friend. I am going to install this on a 1992 dodge Ramchger
Thanks so much for this VID. Help a lot.
Thanks much for this video, is this mirror model the Auto Dimming Mirror with Homelink & Compass - Kia (2T062-ADU01)?
Thanks man, very well done tutorial.
Excellent clean work! That's how to do it.
Thank you for your comment. Glad you like my video. Remember to subscribe!
Great video as always. Very informative.
Question, what is the song at the end of the video? I've heard it in your other videos and have been curious.
Hi,
Why 2014 Subaru Outback Homelink mirror don't hava back lighted buttons? In the dark parking difficult to see those buttons. Thanks
I have a question, if you connect both ignition and constant to the ignition, then the garage door function will only work when the ignition is on correct? I don't always park in the garage and done want someone to be able to open the car and then use my mirror to open my garage. My F150 has the home link visor and its live 24/7, but I have an alarm on that truck that's hard to get passed, my Elantra does not have an alarm and if I keep it parked in the driveway and I'm away, that's basically giving them a key to my house. I'd like to wire it so it only works when key is on. thanks for your help, great video, very step by step!
Hi can you help me with this im trying to install a homelink mirror for my bmw 3 series which doesn’t have pre wiring
Camera powered the same way my guess is? Do you have to use different fuse for each device?
Great video I just bought a 2022 Nissan Rogue SV and this is exactly what I was looking for. The only question I have is will it screw with warranty?
Anything you touch or modify will affect the warranty related to that component (if you damage something). This install is fuse protected so unless you do something really bad, there shouldn't be any problems.
Thank you! Awesome instructions!!!
I have the same car, Can i use the spare fuse slots instead of the seat heaters or interior light lamp?
That depends. Some spare fuse slots have no power. You need to check with a multimeter if the fuse has power.
Great video, I have a slightly less unconventional install I am planning. I have multiple dashcam harnesses that go from dashcam to usb. I was planning on using this harness that goes to my switched on lighter, I also have a constant lighter. The dashcam harness has 2 wires hot and ground. I plan on wiring constant with the switched together on mirror harness and then ground accordingly. I realize my homelink will only work with my car running, which if I am using my garage door 9 out 10 times my vehicle will likely be running. This seems to be the most simple install. Do you see any problems with this? Thank you
You can wire it to ignition 12V like you suggested. The only thing is you can only use the garage opener when the ignition is on.
Hello, great videos, Is there a way to make the wiring from the dashcam look better, at least like one wire?
You can clean it up with zip ties or wrap the entire length using Tesa cloth tape.
Perfect tutorial!!
Nice work
Excellent!!
Can you install mine? I have a 12 plug instead of 10. Gentex 453 Subaru mirror with hidden red compass. I'm installing it on a Honda civic... I have everything except the Tap and fuses. Thanks!
For running the wires down the A-Pillar, doesn't the airbag get in the way? My car has a side curtain airbag that I assume would be in the way of running the wires.
Route the wire behind the side airbag and down the A-pillar.
Very nice Thank you
Did this mirror have a compass? If it didn't would the same wiring work with the compass feature? Thanks
The one I installed didn't have compass, but you can get one with it. The wiring is the same.
Thank you for the reply and the video is extremely helpful!
is it possible to connect a camera with this mirroe
Question. does the fuse amp matter? Like if the constant 12 v is 10 amp should i have a 10 amp fuse in each fuse? and then if the switch amp is 15 amp, should i use 15 amp as well oo would 10 amp fuse work for both the swicth and constant?
You should put in either the same amp rating fuse or a lower amp rating
Why not wire it to ACC power so when your car is off, no one can open the garage door when the car is parked outside?
Yes you can wire it to Acc. The way I wired it is how it comes from the factory, and some people want to be able to open/close the garage without turning on the car.
Do you know why this needs a constant wire? Is it for the homelink to work with the car off? What happens if I were to wire both to the ignition only? Thanks
The constand 12v is to power the Homelink when the ignition is off. It's up to you if you want that or just power it when ignition is on.
@@dial2fast I wasn't sure if it unprogramed the button with out power
I have a little problem and i need your help, i went to a technician to do some work including the auto dimming mirror, my mirror doesn't come with the wiring, so after he checked the mirror he recommended me to order a jumper pin cables from amazon and i did, then i didn't proceed with the installation bcs he was trying to rip me off and i decided to learn and do things my self, so to make this short, the jumper cable has the tip required to fit into the mirror, and i need to connect 3 of them to constant, power and ground, the jumper cable is thinner, i could tell it is 22 AWG and the wire am running to the fuse box is 18 gauge( also based on the technician recommendation), i didn't feel it is safe to connect them together and when i asked the guy at canadian tire he said..Don't do it , the jumper wire could heat and melt, best buy guys said the same thing and they didn't have a cable or something could work.
Can you help me and tell me what options i have?, How to have that tip connected to a proper wiring to the fuse box ?
do you think i can connect the jumper cable to same size wire which is 22 gauge wire and run it to the fuse box ?
Thank you
There is actual ratings for how much current a wire can handle. For a 22 AWG wire, it should be able to handle 0.9 amps (or 900 mA). The Homelink mirror will use less than 900mA. My guess is it uses no more than 500mA. So you can either run the 22 AWG wire from mirror to fuse box. Or connect a thicker wire from the 22 AWG wire at the mirror and run it to the fuse box. If the installer have a multimeter and some electrical background, you can test all this before doing the install.
@@dial2fast thank you for help, btw, i am the installer and i paused my installation for this issue, i have a multimeter and am learning how to use it, can you give me an idea?, i should test the DC voltage on the 22 AWG wire ? , is there an option for amps on the multimeter?
@@pilotkhatib3992 I made a 3 part video on using multimeter many years ago, but still good info: ua-cam.com/video/9IZUvTyOGAk/v-deo.htmlsi=4e6tckjPcOijNnSu
@@dial2fast ok i watched your videos several times, to sort things out, am going to connect the 5 inch 22 AWG to the 18 AWG wire which will run to the fuse box, my guess is that i need to test the Amps on the 18 AWG wire and see if it falls within the acceptable range that a 22 AWG wire can handle....Right ?
The mirror is working now , I read the mutlimeter manual, i tried to do all sort of things to measure the amp and still read zero, it reads 12 V but i couldn't read the amp, by looking at it seems fine, but i could feel the 22 guage wire heat a tiny bit when the mirror dims
Does Nissan use same windshield hook ups mirrors ??? Please advise I’ll appreciate your comment
Nissan uses the mount shown in this video.
@@dial2fast thank you 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Great instructions, thanks! By the way, why is an "ignition 12v" wire needed in addition to the constant 12v wire?
So the mirror knows when the car is off so it turns off the compass (if equipped), auto dim feature, and front green light. The mirror will use the constant 12v to allow the user to use HomeLink without having to turn the car on.
If I don’t plan to use homelink then I don’t need the constant 12 V wire?
@@Gleeleeglee You should be able to use all other features except homelink without the constant 12v. If you leave that constant wire disconnected, it won’t send any power to the homelink circuitry but may light up the button lights.
To save someone the headache in the future, I would recommend connecting it regardless. Finding a constant circuit and attaching a fuse tap to it shouldn’t be too difficult. If you can’t find a constant circuit, you can even connect the constant to the same ignition circuit so homelink is unable to be used when the car is off but work as normal when the car ignition is on.
@@Gleeleeglee i was curious bout that too - i suppose it would keep my garage door opener code - but i know it could operate only with the accessory power
Hey Guy, there’s nothing showing on the screen you need to know that it need to be fix
don't need the constant 12 volt... if your car is outside, someone breaks in, they can open your garage door...
Yes you can wire it the way you like it. From the factory, they all use constant power.
yeah.. dont mention what amp fuse you need for the mirror or anything.
Next time stagger your joins, for a cleaner Finnish, your welcome :)
All the wiring is just ugly....Not worth it
Way worth it. Wires are behind the panel and look great for the behind the panel inspector. 😂😂
