    Erik Satie was one of the most accomplished French Impressionistic pianists and composers that ever existed. His timeless music simply challenges classification. His premiere Gymnopédie (previously the 3rd in the series) is among his most famous. The melody is so strangely familiar, like it was written in from a dream. Vibraphone definitely helps bring out the intense, yet unintentional emotion of Erik's composition. Written for 4-mallets. Available for 3-octave vibraphone.

    It is like a vibraphone, xylophone and marimba had a baby lol. Very pretty though

    Excellent performance, I am pleasantly surprised by how good the sampled vibraphone sounds! You really make it seem like there's not much of a difference between the xylosynth and an analog mallet instrument

      The xylosynth is just the controller, the sound is coming from a sampled vibraphone. So it is the vibraphone which is actually beautiful 😉

    hi, I wanted to congratulate you on your videos. I have seen you use xylosynth, a beautiful instrument. But is the sound I hear in the video its original that I find inside the instrument or is it taken from external MIDI sounds? because it is really very beautiful. thank you very much for the information and for your music.

      I used the instrument purely as a MIDI controller connected to my computer. The sound is a vibraphone from the Virtual Drumline sound library. Thanks for watching! Would help me if you subscribed, if you’d like.

    Can you transpose up or down an octave if you wanted to? If so, is it something that can be done quick to access say a Low A on a 41/3 or a low C on a 5 octave?

    So, what is the difference between a Wernick Xylosynth and a marimba? Is it just that it rings like a vibraphone would? Because I am thinking about purchasing one for traveling performance.

      Xylosynth to MIDI/USB interface to laptop. Sound is direct from system audio, using Logic Pro. There are other ways to do it without a laptop. You’ll have to email Wernick and ask them how it works.

    I saw that there was a 5 oct one that said it was a "folding" keyboard. Does it really fold on itself without damaging the wood?? Because that would be amazing. You KNOW that would be amazing.

    • @EricPeelMusic
      @EricPeelMusic  9 років тому

      The model I have here is a 4-Octave and it folds too! it IS amazing! It folds outwards; keys on the outside. The flight case supports it in this position in such a way that nothing can possibly touch/damage the keys. These guys really thought everything out!

    • @BlackTecno2
      @BlackTecno2 9 років тому

      Eric C. W. Peel ... I want so bad.
      But I has no money...
      Wait, how are you going to deal with that low Bb??? I have a 4 oct marimba and not having that one note is so annoying because so many pieces use it so often... But now you have to write more music that I'm able to play on my marimba! But you become at a loss of being able to write certain parts? I feel like I win but loose...
      Also is it heavy when you're transporting it? I know that the bars are incredibly heavy (especially 4 octs worth) and five octs, that's almost brutal.

    • @EricPeelMusic
      @EricPeelMusic  9 років тому

      +Black Tecno
      I believe the 5-Octave is under 45 pounds :) So this one is probably no more than 40 lbs. The construction is aluminium and there really isn't much to weigh it down besides keys, aluminum framing and small processors inside. Of course that doesn't include the stand. I have a double x stand here which is probably 5-10 pounds. But there are many options for stands out there. I'm looking into getting an extra wide keyboard stand so I can VESA mount a monitor on the front to read music without printing paper :)

      Eric C. W. Peel And the money thing is tricky. How old are you? Go extra on your school loans and buy it that way! Not good advice, I know... but you will have the Xylosynth at least!

    • @BlackTecno2
      @BlackTecno2 9 років тому

      Eric C. W. Peel Problem is I'm not majoring in music and I'm also in college with barely any real money and taking out loans is only going to cost me more T^T
      I'll just have to deal in the meantime, and it'll be like a goal. Like the candy I get for doing a good job.

    Wish the audio quality was better it’s seems like u have the notes down I just think ur playin a bit too fast

    • @EricPeelMusic
      @EricPeelMusic  5 років тому

      To each, their own. The audio is a DI of the vibraphone from Virtual Drumline, some of the best percussion samples in the world. So not really sure what you mean about audio quality.

    • @lukeanthonysamudio10
      @lukeanthonysamudio10 5 років тому

      Eric Peel Music well the audio is punchy it could be from the upload and not the actual xylophone audio I think ur playing is great I personally think u should’ve gone with a brass one instead of a wood so it gives that more dreamy feel

    • @EricPeelMusic
      @EricPeelMusic  5 років тому

      Hopefully you understand that the Xylosynth is only a midi controller. The wood you’re seeing is not generating the sound. There are sensors underneath the wood bars that send a signal to my computer which triggers samples, in this case, vibraphone samples. Wood/brass, don’t know what you mean - is it mallet choice or bar material you’re referring to? Either way, it won’t matter as these are samples. I could play this thing with pencils and it would sound exactly the same. The audio is definitely compromised by youtube’s file compression. I also did not do any EQ or compression to the audio, so maybe the upper mids are too harsh. If anything, I think it could be more punchy and defined, not less so.

    • @lukeanthonysamudio10
      @lukeanthonysamudio10 5 років тому

      Eric Peel Music yes I understand it is a midi thats why I suggested a real xylophone so to answer your question it’s bar material or more generally speaking the entire xylophone I think gymnopedie would sound great on a real xylophone with natural sound

    • @EricPeelMusic
      @EricPeelMusic  5 років тому

      Ah, I see. To that, I would argue that a xylophone has too short of a sound. The original of this piece was composed for piano. Piano has a very long sustain which is really needed for this piece. Vibraphone also has a long sustain and is really the only percussion instrument which can handle the task as a solo instrument. With xylophone, you’d need another performer and you’d need to play rolls to get the notes to sing. I have actually done this for an ensemble version of this piece. If you search “Gymnopedie No 1 Percussion Ensemble”, you should find it.
