Oh my Sarah! We are so thankful you have this platform as well. Thank you for sharing the gentle beauty in life. You are such a talented artist in so many ways. Thank you again.
That kind of constantly grey and drizzly weather and incessant dampness can really make a person feel miserable. it's like it seeps into your bones. It's like that on the west coast of Tasmania. I don't know how they survive the winter. Here in the highlands we are in a rain shadow, so the winter is filled with crisp cold rozen days with blue skies. When it rains it rains properly, but then we get a respite. Down in the valley it is foggy all winter. Add into that wood smoke from people's homes and it gets pretty awful pretty quickly. So, I feel for you. On a positive note, these foggy scenes are just gorgeous. It's amazing to me how a few abstract wet in wet marks suddenly become distance trees through the fog to create a magical winter landscape.
I'm close to the coast, so we are often hit by the arctic winds from the north, which blows freezing air into our valley and sort of clears things quickly. However that means the wind makes it so much colder 😅 But I do wonder in the lowlands if they have bad pollution in winter. But yea there are many days of grey, and I will fly my drone up to see the sun...it's like a little reminder that the light is there and eventually it will come back to us!
You’re such a rebel, watercolour into gouache to tint, gouache into watercolour to cloud, glaze a sky glow last…demonstrates the play and versatility of the mediums. Can’t wait for spring !
This reminds me so much of the San Joaquin Valley in California in winter. I used to think there wasn't anything interesting about all the fog and gloominess until I found a photographer, Michael Frye, who photographed scenes of fog there. After that, I appreciated so much more the beauty of a foggy morning. Your paintings are so inspiring and beautiful. Frosted sheep--ha ha, so cute!
Sarah...I live in wet and misty Wales . Often frustrated by the weather but watching this video has just let me see the opportunities I have let slip by. I too feel trapped by winter months but you let me see I can find the light and stop grumping. Frosted sheep is pure joy. Thank you.
I absolutely love your winter foggy scenes! Absolutely gorgeous. Each video you post feels like a love letter to nature and you can really feel the peaceful appreciation through it. Thank you for sharing
Love your fog paintings . Using watercolour and gouache together omg they are perfect match for misty winter scenes for that subtlety of light. Love love love.
IMO There is only consciousness and the act of observation maintains and creates our physical reality. there is nothing more important than diligently minding your perspective and what you feed your mind. lovely and thoughtful vid Sarah.
It's always lovely seeing more of Scotland! When I visited in August it was freezing so I can't even imagine how cold it must be now 😬these paintings are so gorgeous! ❤
Oh my goodness. "Frosted Sheep" is so so beautiful. I almost teared up. It is now one of my favorites of your works so far. So lovely. 😢 Wish I could own it! ...or paint that well myself. Working on that. 😊
Sarah, this video fed my soul….it wasn’t just the beautiful video to graphs, but also your audio guide to your thoughts and feelings. I am so grateful that I found you.
In Ohio we are in the thick of Winter. Gloominess for days and now arctic blast. However I’m still embracing winter the soft light in the house. Keeping the house cozy knowing there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Your scenery is amazing. I miss the mountains you are truly blessed. Happy painting Sarah also hi to Wolfie
This is one of my favorite videos of 2024 so far. I really got the feeling of being on those frosty foggy hillsides. I'm so enjoying the wintery content! 😊❄❤
I always enjoy watching your process of painting and expressing this in your sketchbook or on paper!!! You talk about struggles at time but you seem to paint so effortlessly!!!
I love the sense of peace that fog can bring and I think you captured that in your paintings. They definitely transported me back to the foggy footage you shared.
I love how you always combine really useful tips and suggestions while sharing gorgeous atmospheric scenes and music!! It’s both soothing and inspiring and helpful all at once - thank you!!
I just love both of these paintings! You captured the vibe of the landscape perfectly. Absolutely beautiful! The sheep are my favorite. I am amazed at how effortless you make it look. I really want to get to a point where I can paint loosely like that and actually get something that looks good. I toil over every brush stroke, it seems.. I should probably just dial up a bunch of your videos and have them playing while I paint because they are so relaxing to watch and listen to. Thanks for your Saturday morning posts…they are a great way to start the weekend. ❤
Gorgeous paintings! The whole time I’m watching, I’m thinking, how did she get that lovely foggy look?! Thank you for sharing your talents. So excited for my subscription box❣️
Such a peaceful feeling your paintings evoke! I wish I could teleport into them lol and get away from our cold Canadian prairies (calling for -40 to -50c windchills).
Thank you Sara! Your videos fill me with such joy, peace and magical wonderment! Your paintings are mystical and beautiful!😊🧚☃️❄️🍄 I’ve got to go and paint now!🥰
I can see why you’re inspired, Sarah - is there any time of the year when Scotland *doesn’t* show off some unexpectedly incredible beauty?! 👏 We have fog here in California, too (not quite the same, but still), so I’ll be trying the techniques you described 🎨 Thank you for another wonderful look into your art journey (yay Frosted Sheep! 🐑 )
Those drone shots from above the clouds are so beautiful, I could watch those for hours! The paintings are so good too! No doubt they sell very very soon! Amazing video as always, thank you and Wolfie for making these!
Sarah the photography and your paintings are fantastic. I went to purchase Frosted Sheep and it was already sold so was thankful to be able to purchase a few prints instead. Love your work and found this video very calming and also inspiring…thanks for all the effort you put into these videos. 😻
Another brilliant video and amazing artworks. Your 'reverence of nature' is palpable and you capture it so well. Relaxing and inspiring at the same time; this has set me up well for the day! Thanks Sarah :)
Thank you for sharing the different moods of Scotland with us. One can easily see why you love it so much. Your painting always inspires me. I love the soft beauty of winter captured in this video. The photography is outstanding and the accompanying music works perfectly. The video is a work of art in itself. So well done.
10 am central time in Illinois. I can't wait to see how you paint the fog. We have a lot of sblowing snow, and it's cold. The sun is shining so it's beautiful. My happy place at the moment is watching your video. Thank you, Sarah!
I LOVE this painting w fence posts, Sarah! Omg! You captured it! I tried using one of those glass dip pens for my frisket - worked pretty darn good, and easy to clean - by comparison to a brush....
Thanks for a beautiful video. The photography is stunning. I also usually feel shut in in Winter. I hate the cold and don't like to go out when it's snowy and icy. Brrrrrr! But this video shows me the good side of Winter, how Winter is actually beautiful. And, as a fairly new fan of yours, I've basically binged watched your videos over the past few months and I have noticed that you have made a lot of progress. Especially with the use of colour. Wonderful! Looking forward to the next one. Stay warm!
Same here in Russia - we have winter for 5 months and we only have sun when the temperature is within the range of -30 and -20 degrees:( If it's something above, it means there will be weeks of gloomy grey skies... pretty hard to find motivation for something, so I can relate so much to that. It also resonated when you said that you painted without paying attention to brands or types of paints you were using. I personally noticed that I've finally started growing only when I stopped caring about what brands I was using and basically just grabbed whatever I had near my hand at that moment. Beautiful paintings as always!
Great sentiment in the video! Learned a lot from a video making perspective since i am doing 100 days of landscapes! I am also looking to share these kind of moments and sentiments with people, since they are so unique and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
@@SarahBurnsStudio Well I onlt do 15min paintings but as you know i cant paint outside everyday in winter. With minus degrees and watercolor, it just doesnt work! (havent tried vodka in the water) So yeah, lots of days with cold hands and/or rain and snow xD I really liked the first piece btw, "frosted sheep". Really well done with the colors and the subtleties!
Excellent and enjoyable video Sarah greatly appreciate you sharing your talent and explaining your technique for creating this painting with such detail colours and depth, I appreciate how you achieve within your videos the whole journey is very inclusive and wellbeing in the whole process. Thanks greatly appreciated stay safe and healthy
Hey Girl!!! You captured the elusive fog. Always a challenge for me. Love how you don’t belabor the brushstrokes. Keep it fresh. Lay it down and get out. Also, the video quality is much higher (editing). I noticed. Is that Wolfies work? Big props and tell him hi for me. Peace.
@@SarahBurnsStudio Well then you’ve gotten very advanced with you editing chops. So I’m stateside and it’s so refreshing to tag along in Scotland. So freaking beautiful. I really like the random life bits in your other vids too. If you ever have any doubts about “is it interesting enough”, don’t. It’s a rare and personal glimpse into daily life and random thoughts. Top notch content.
you certainly make it look easy, my gouache set arrived and good lord, its hard going from oil to gouache! i use a hairdryer to soften the tape when I've finished a painting....
I struggle in the heat give me autumn any day and perhaps spring, I have pictures from a friend that travelled Indonesia ,Philippines and he had some magical pictures of being so high up in an area that you could see the clouds in the trees I guess the highest ones , I'm not sure how to paint it.
Is there some type of UA-cam footage award thing? Sorry if this is like a stupid noob question, but the footage that you film and put into your videos is like none other! And it deserves recognition! I mean your artwork is underrated too, but that's a totally different subject!
The paintings are so beautiful Sarah. I use gouache and I use watercolour but I very often find I just have to add in some gouache to my watercolour pieces. The more robust gouache seems to amplify the subtleties of the water colour and make them glow more. Where they were humming now they are singing. I just bought some Kuretake Gansai Tambi and have been playing with it for a couple of days. Already I’m itching to use watercolour with it to see how they play together. No doubt gouache will be coming to the party too. Happy painting
Some say it is between gouache and watercolour but so far it is like opaque watercolour to me. I have only done one painting that includes it with my watercolours so far, so I have used it more like watercolour. I think the layering properties feel more like gouache though. Still getting the feel of it. @@SarahBurnsStudio
