I give thanks to my brother in-law who turned me on to them back in 1970. He was the Baritone player in The Houston Outlaws & were also Edwin Starr's back up band for a couple of years. They had just recorded the massive hit "WAR" at the Motown Studio's in Detroit across the river from Windsor Ontario Canada where we lived. He married my sister a short time later & left the band to live in Canada. I was 16 at the time & he called me to come by the apt they were renting to listen to a band that were tighter than tight "his words" that afternoon changed my musical life forever, the album was East Bay Grease" I WAS HOOKED! Been listening to them and DG ever since, have seen them well over 20 times in Toronto, Buffalo, Detroit...He'll be missed dearly.

Love the Oakland Stroke. . Thanks 🙏 for the great performances I've seen you at. Loved the Back To Oakland tour. Great body of work. Great inspiration to me. I've played in 2 horn bands. Which is like 2 bands in one. Happy Retirement

I saw TOP twice in '73.
The first time they opened for Richie Havens, and the second time, on probably the strangest double bill I've ever seen, they opened for Cheech & Chong.

Nice tribute to David's retirement. Your presentation gave me insight into who he is as a drummer and as a person. I think I'll work on my E' and A's. :)

I've seen ToP almost 100 times and I'm not a drummer. It surely looks like an aerobic activity, especially with this band. DG is 77, so yes, your body will tell you when it's time.

I took lessons from dave way back in the late 80's at dick grove college of music, move that accent one beat to the rt every pass haha, he used to put his sticks over mine to keep my ghost notes quieter lol, he was and is a bad man, congrats on retiring DG
