  • It's rare a new tire comes into the adventure bike marketplace. I spent 2 days and over 450 miles testing the new Tusk 2Track adventure tires from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. Here are my results and comparisons. #motorcycle #advrider #adv #dualsport #dirtbike

    ✔NOTES
⚡1. Tires are designed in the US but made in China. Low pricing is because RMATV/MC develops and produces this brand in house and there is no middle man or dealers.
⚡2. Only avail. in 21 inch front and 18 inch rear (as of late january 2024, more sizes coming soon!)
⚡3. Compared to... The Motoz Rallz are better off road but the Tusk are slightly smoother and more stable on road... The Tusk are somewhere between a 50/50 tire like a TrailMax Mission or Raid and an 80/20 tire like a Rallz .... The TrailMax Mission are better on road but not near as good off road as these... TrailMax Raid are better on road than the Tusk, but not as good off road as the Tusk... esp. in sand. Compared to Shinko 804/805 - I found these tires at least as good on road, and better off road. HTH. My favorite ADV tire combo for mostly offroad - Motoz Dual Venture Front, Rallz Rear - period. For 50/50 riding - I like the Motoz GPS, and the Dunlop Trailmax Raid.

A far superior/stable tire changer which is also substantially less expensive than the Rabaconda is the No Mar Cycle Hill tire changer. It’s more robust(heavier) not quite as portable but takes the F Bombs out of changing stiff side wall tires (Goldwing, Maxis Desert IT, etc).. After 10+ years of @ 12 tire changes per year, it’s never let me down. There is also a hitch adapter available whereby you simply slide the No Mar on to your hitch receiver and off you go, the kit also includes cement lag bolts if you wish a “permanent “ install in a cement floor…
a VERY important advantage is the No Mar DOES not trash your rims like the Rabaconda does because the No Mar doesn’t use metal tire spoons…the Rabaconda did a nice job of trashing Ian’s rims , look closely and you’ll see the carnage especially the rear rim…
The rear tire action cam .. EXCELLENT

S/W German winters are a mixed bucket of feelings. One moment it’s 15 degrees Celsius and sunny dry, next moment you hit below 0 degrees wet and frozen patches. For me, I’m riding 90% tarmac and feel confident to use Pirelli Scorpion STR or Metzeler Tourance, Karoo Street or sometimes Karoo 4‘s. For those rare times that I go riding on dirt roads I felt sufficient support from those tyres tbh. Fun fact: did two off-road trainings for big adventure bikes. Both times I was the only guy with his own bike, both times on Metzeler Tourance and I didn’t have more problems than others on rental bikes with off-road tyres

Always good to have more brands out there. Not keen on the look of the front tyre, the knobs don't look staggered enough or with large enough gaps in between to prevent lateral movement on looser surfaces. One of the biggest tests for 'budget' adventure tyres on the road, is wet/damp weather performance, and maintaining performance in both wet and dry during wear.

Big Rock Moto, I really hope you get to test the new AJP PR7 soon. Now they have really sorted the fuelling and other teething problems of 19 model, at 166KG wet weight with 17 litres of fuel onboard and 300 mm of suspension travel it is one hell of an adventure bike right out of the box.

Here we go!!! Great summary and 1st impressions. My video is forthcoming. I too think that these will be VERY popular. Inexpensive, knobby like the contenders, decent on the highway. Three downsides are mounting... cold wet roads they slip out and I feel they transfer more road vibrations up through the bike... but overall... I foresee a "Tusk Takeover" or a lowering of the big boy's prices :)

    @richardallen6432 4 місяці тому +3

To me the obvious determining factor is road wear, more than their off road ability. It does one no good to arrive at a fun spot like yours, when the tire is worn down after a few rides to get to it, as the tire then won't perform worth a hoot in the off road conditions. If they hold up well for a 200 dollar set, then maybe they are good value. If they wear away fast on asphalt, then they aren't worth putting my money towards. As always Ian, a good honest review.

Rocky Mountain is becoming the Amazon of motorcycle parts both owning the manufacturing process and exclusive sales, I’m not sure if that’s good or bad for consumers in the long run. I’ve tried RM Tusk brand and MSR brand and find favorable pricing with decent products. Time will tell on Tusk tires.. just for reference I trusted Kyle Bradshaw regarding Motoz RallZ front and found that tire ridiculously unstable and dangerous on the road. Now the DV front with RallZ rear is my go to tire on my DR650. My fingers are crossed Ian..

Great early review! Really enjoying your content. Maybe I missed it in the video but is there a durometer reading on these?
For what it's worth the tread pattern on these tires looks perfect. Looks aren't everything of course, but the design makes sense to me. I've been trying the Tusk T-35 knobbies on my 300 XC and ya, they are all stiff carcass tires. They seem to work and wear fine though and I enjoy the cost savings. It is helpful to have a tire changing setup like the Rabaconda or the cool new and more cost effective than a Rabaconda Neutron Pro tire changing stand that Rocky Mountain also carries.
Currently running a Motoz RallZ rear on my Husky 701 Enduro that I like lots, will probably try this Tusk tire next. I find Armor All works well for mounting these stiff Tusk tires, as it is very slick and stays that way for awhile.

  • @UltralightMotorcycleCamping

Tusk has been making a lot of good value oriented products. This looks like a winner that will challenge Kenda Big Block tires and Shinko 804/805 tires. From the thorough first impressions, my biggest concern is the stiff sidewall. I change my own tires and I don't do it often enough to have a motorcycle tire changing station. I assume Tusk will have 17/19 inch versions soon.

I tried the tusk Dual Sport tires on my T7 after watching a bit of reviews where people like them.
Initial impression wasn’t too bad until I started to push the limits. I had them step out on me nine times on the road and the front tire washed out twice on gravel roads crossing over the middle section that humps up.
I crashed in a third gear corner on the road and I crashed in fourth gear on a gravel road doing about 60 mph all within a month of installing them.
The rubber compound is too hard.
Doctor bills cost more than a good set of tires.
Plus time off of work due to injuries.
I’m sure they’re decent tires for the average rider but don’t try to push them or they’ll kill you.
I’m curious to see your long-term thoughts on the two track tires.

The Tusk D Sports have been a STAPLE for smaller bikes as many run them because they're so cheap for how good they are, they may not be the top performance but for average consumer they hit the nail on the head, so I agree with your ending statement about being the most popular as Motoz Tractionator is current staple but $240.00 for just rear is a lot. If Mountain ATV/MC can keep price significantly lower then they will for sure take market for larger bikes too.
Edit: As someone who a few months ago was looking for a set of tires that would be equivalent or at least close the D sports for my Tuarge 660 in terms of cheap and performance but not finding any options i was gonna bite the bullet on Motoz Tractionator but will now be switching to the Tusk 2 Track adventure!

I think Motoz are still a better performer but there is always a market for budget tires - and these are great for a budget tire

Tip for seating the bead on tubeless tires: use a big bicycle pump. Electric or compressed air pumps are better generally, but they don't produce the instantaneous pressure pulse of a large piston cheap bicycle pump.

Im shopping for tires for my AT. I ride mostly highway but do some motocamping up in the woods. Ive got motoz adventure tires on now and the front tire sounds like a screaming rabbit. Its not rideable. How are these on the road? Any suggestions fof tires that arent the dunlop trailmax mission? I dont like the front tire. Doesn't stay planted off road.

Hard to step away from the Motoz man... 3000 miles on front and back with no signs of slowing down. ANY complaints about wobbling leads me to think the bike itself is not properly set up. But... good for Tusk - maybe I will try a set in another 3000 miles.

This tire is more compared to the Motoz Tractionator Adventure not the Rallz. It will definitely last longer the the Rallz as well and a lot cheaper. Running a Trailmax Raid front with Tractionator Rear and may try this rear next.

How would you compare vs Anakee wild? I had them for about 2 years front and rear and those are my favorite adventure tires. Go fast on the pavement, but did close to 20k kilometers with it on a light bike. I think Michelin nailed the 50/50 as I did pretty rough stuff with it. Dirt bike rough. So would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Adv bike tires are such a weird thing.
Riding area, riding ability, bike size and power.....everything is different for everyone.
My 1190 has alot of power and literally breaks loose with tc off at any speed on anything other than pavement.
My favorite tire.....for wear and performance has been the Motoz Tractionator.
But in Canada its now 450 to 500C$.
I cannot justify that for a tire that last 5k km or less under my use.
Still looking for the unicorn adv tire....😂
    Cheap,long lasting,available in Canada

Since they are stiffer sidewall, you might want to air down a little to gain back your traction. Not a lot but enough to match the deflection you are used to with the Motos.

I can’t comment on the Tusk adventure tire but the Tusk Dsports on my CRF 450l were absolute junk especially in faster desert terrain.. after a 80 mile day I donated them to my shop for Dunlops..

    • @jwaller1327
      @jwaller1327 4 місяці тому

Agreed. I can tolerate the DSport rear tire (I'll keep it until it's worn but won't buy another), but the front tire, to me, seemed dangerously bad. I wouldn't even donate the front tire. If someone digs it out of the land fill, that's on them. But I'd feel bad giving it to someone else.
