This is a very good machine indeed, in my opinion. I've never owned any Minelabs, but if I was a hedge-hopper this 900 would be the one I'd land on. It seems to me that the 800 proved to be a successful test platform for the creation of this tool.
The Minelab Equinox 700/900 continue to prove themselves as worthy upgrades over the 600/800 that they replace. With many software upgradable detectors, one well thought out update can make all the difference between an average/mediocre machine or a superior machine. Historically, when a manufacturer has a higher designated detector above another in it’s lineup (i.e. Equinox 700/900 & Manticore, for example), it keeps them from improvng the lower lever machines too much so not to ascend the capabalities to be equal to or above their higher-priced detector models. Thankfully, that seems to be changing for the better for us as customers as manufacturers are really taking off the gloves to battle each other at every level. I am anxiously awaiting for this coming Tuesday’s reveal from Garrett to see what the Vortex detector and Storm series in general will bring us. I paused my planned XP putchase in hopes that Garrett will announce a wireless based detector that takes on the XP lineup. As Garrettt was my first serious detector back in the 1980’s, I am somewhat biased towards owning a Garrett machine, but not to my detriment that I would not buy a clearly better machine from another maker like XP or Minelab, etc...
struggled with the 900 pre and post update. at fe -1 the machine chirps with the coil above my head.(as i walk). still digging deep iron and multiple nails even using 40 khz. still trying... Zeb
Thank you for doing this! The numbers and sounds seem more stable....I will try my own testing too. Do you think the FE-1 trumps other FE setings (say FE 5 or 6 or 7)? I'm curious comparing if -1 will be better at masking small iron then higher FE settings. I'm just trying to find a way to eliminate pesky small iron without using the discriminator. Thanks again...glad Minelab is addressing the iron issue. It's a good machine and they are on their way to making it a knockout.
Just want to follow up.....I did air tests and it's amazing....my FE never quite cancelled stuff before the update. Now I'm seeing a coin or ring (even a cheaper 10k ring) right next to a rusty nail or scrap iron, the FE-1 gets it loud and clear! And if I increase the FE all the way up, it actually does knock out a bottle cap and other iron whereas it didn't before on my machine. Good job Minelab!
Hi, was looking at buy this detector but heard there is alot of iron falsing, now im not so sure, do you think the update has made a difference to falsing?
Good video. Is the performance of the 700 the same as the 900? I’m leaning towards the 700 but I’m also looking at the Elite and Triple Score. What are your thoughts on these three machines?
I don't have a Triple Score but you do get the same performance in the 700 as the 900 you just don't have some of the configuration options but its still a very capable machine.
Think of the IB as a door. When you have it at 0 the door is fully open to allow all the iron to come in. As you increase the number you begin to close the door to keep some of it from coming into the machine. Obviously, the higher the filter the more you keep out.
Your initial test was with FE 0 and All Metal off. I wanted to see you test with FE -1 also with All Metal off, but you didn't do this, all your subsequent tests had All Metal on. Do you know if the machine is improved when using FE -1 with All Metal switched off?
Great test. But if I was looking to buy a 900 right now I'd have to be asking myself if it's worth paying more than double the price of an Xterra elite? The Elite hit all those coins in your test garden the exact same way as the 900 did, which is very impressive for the elite but not so much for the 900. It seems to me that the Elite is going to put a serious dent in the sales of their upper echelon machines most likely as the in the ground performance looks to be nearly identical.
I have a new 700 being delivered tomorrow and was concerned about how much it jumps around.. Glad to see it's more stable which will help make dig/no dig decisions a bit easier once I figure her out
@@JonR35 i have a deus 2..its a good detector but manticore and i think even 900 are better.rutus versa also its above deus 2 in some important areas ua-cam.com/video/sKKkQNxP9D4/v-deo.html
I have grown to hate the 900. The iron faulting is terrible. I’ve spent time with buried iron trying to get rid of it. Rusty iron comes up in high 90s. The same number silver coins are there’s been times I’ve discriminated the high 90s just so I can get a hunt and find other things. I hope the update fixes this. $1300. Not worth it in my opinion. I have the standard coil. If you find any remedies, please let me know. It’s been a lot of time doing this. This machine is destroying my favorite hobby. Thanks for hearing me cry.
Sounds like you need to turn 90 degrees on the target and listen closely and watch the numbers. The numbers will change drastically over iron and it will sound different. You might also have a faulty coil. If you have another coil give it a try and see if the other coil does the same thing.
@@MentalMetal I appreciate the reply. Is there a coil you would suggest? The small coil is more stable, but I can’t cover much ground or tap with it. Thanks for taking the time. Your video made me aware of the update. I just updated last night and try it again today.
I also noticed standard 11 inch coil has a front and the back. I always had the little arrow pointing forward. I flipped it over so the arrows pointing towards me because when I toe and heel the none arrow side pick up first. I find the strange because I thought the coil would act the same regardless what side target hits. With that said maybe I do have a crappy coil.

Nice! thanks for the comment.
I like this update, I think its def a little more stable. A great update to an already fantastic machine
100% agree!
I think its a LOT more stable. Took it out today for first time and seemed like a whole diferent detector.
Thanks Scott I did the update and yes there is definitely a n improvement in ID stability and the -1 on the iron bias is a nice addition
Yep I 100% agree. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks I’m new to detecting I will be buying a 900 and this helps this rookie
Great to hear. Good luck.
Thanks for the vidéo, I will update my nox 900
I just update both the 900 and the XTerra... Will have it out this weekend and see how -1 Fe does! Thanks for the video!
Good luck!

Spot on @Stack_Silver 👍👍👍
I'm anxious to see what they do too. I'm rooting for them to come out with something good for a change.
Just ordered the 900. Great video, and I'm hoping it's a good machine . Had a lot of trouble with the 800 .
Hope you enjoy it! Its a solid machine once you understand it.
Thanks Scott
My pleasure!
Great vid buddy !!! 🎉
Thank you sir!
I might just have to do the update .. Time will tell the more I watch on the hunts.. Thanks for sharing .. Peace
Get the update, its good.
@@MentalMetal Ok I will get things set up... I will take your word it is worth the Update. As I know you know what you are doing.. Thanks Buddy
thank u for video! just is to updates my MD, now testing!
Awesome good luck.
Super vidéo 🤙🏻 mercis 👍🏻 je vais vite faire la mise à jour , j’attendais une vidéo test c’est chose faite super merci 👍🏻
Thanks!

Should you factory reset after the update? sounds good just done update
I always do but some will say you don't need to.
Thanks for vid.

Yeee...im updating right now !

Thanks for the follow up, the update is def an improvement.
Hi, was looking at buy this detector but heard there is alot of iron falsing, now im not so sure, do you think the update has made a difference to falsing?
Hit all my non-ferrous targets just fine and pulled out an 1868 shield nickel and 3 ringer from its first water hunt. No issues for me.
@MentalMetal Thanks, just didn't want to go and drop a £1000 on a detector, Think iv found a banging signal, just for it to be iron
With every machine you have to put some time to learn the nuances. Good luck I really enjoy that machine. You will see me using it more in the future.

I still don’t understand the iron bias. If the ground is full of iron junk do you have the bias on a lesser or higher number thanks

I will say that you are "extremely" limited with configuration options compared to the 900 but they are both good machines.
Is it ok to do the update with my Coiltek coil on or should I switch back to the stock Minelab coil for the update?
Yo all , i just bought a 900 minelab , inm new to this ..what update?how you do it? Someone tell me please!
I was out yesterday with my 900, a 308 shell rang up as 81-85 ish.. something just doesn't seem right with my machine... is that normal to you?
Yes, its brass it will ring high.
@@MentalMetal Ok.. I appreciate that info.. eases my mind. Thanks
I do not know if it matters or not, but you forgot to ground balance after the first time in park mode.
