Thank you for sharing how you helped change the shape of your client's nails. It really does take time and there are no miracle fast cures or changes. I learned a lot from your channel, from advice on helping get your nails healthier. 💎 I stopped biting and chewing my nails around March 2023 after 50 years, and it has taken until December for me to go longer than 2 weeks without a nail breaking. I keep them polished and always use base coats, I file them with a glass / crystal file once a week, I use cuticle oil and lotion constantly, and I still have peeling on two of my nails (but instead of all 10!). Next, now it's cold out, will be to try warm jojoba soaks and see how that might help. The weirdest part is relearning how to type! I could always type with my fingertips and never touch my nails to the keys until now. 😅
I have this problem, so it’s good to know there’s hope! I’ve only recently realised that the nails on my middle fingers look they’re growing at a slight sideways angle, instead of straight down, so they’re particularly tricky for me.
@@adaharrisonn of course it’s aesthetically pleasing for me, but it also does help with the problem that when they grow upwards they can get caught on things so it’s definitely dependent on each person and how weirdly our nails grow.
Thank you so much 😍 you’re my favorite nail tech. I’ve always had square nails and they grow pretty fast, but they always break on the sides. I’ve been trying to shape them oval and didn’t really know how so this was very helpful 💅🏼✨
She’s so real for this one I’ve corrected my nails it’s taken me 2 years and I now always have rubber base gel and gel on my nails. They grow so fast and very long within shorts amount of time where as they used to be brittle break and curve dowN. I used to bite them and the cuticle but being my own nail tech saved so much money and time and allowed me to find what’s good on my nails.
Everyone's nails are so different. My nails are hard and curl down on both sides, I had to shape tip of my nails flat so my nails would look like elongated squares rather than triangles if I had shaped the tips like yours. And it does make it easier for me, just cut the tips straight across, no filings needed. My nails seem to stay strong, as long as I don't apply nail polishes or go to nail salons that seem to easily damage and weaken the nails.
My nails also curl on side. I have to keep my nails polished to keep from splitting and breaking because they are so fragile. The day I try to give a break from polish, at least one nail breaks or split.
I’ve been doing this per your instructions a while back. My nails are looking great. My main problem is my non-dominant hand looks way better than my dominant hand.😂
Anna...you are a true magician! Somewhat of a "nail whisperer"😉 I'm truly impressed by your natural, in a way, simplified approach. I wish I could come to you on a regular basis. My nails would be grateful forever. Not being able to do that, I have to satisfy myself with carefully watching everything you do, soak up the knowledge and try to apply it in my everyday nail care. Thank you for your amazing work! I truly appreciate it. Love from Croatia 💙
I accidently found one of your videos and was amazed by this. I have "Shovelnails". And I`m always really jelous of people who have a longer nail bet because it looks sooo good. Now I come here and it seems that you can achive that look with your advises, even if nature gave you shovel nails. That would be awesome. Also I always wondered why they break and I think it was a shaping mistake. Thank you for making aware of that and showing a solution for the problem. I will totally try this out. Thank you!
I have had an awful habit of going ham all the way up the side walls so many cuts😬 When i first watched this i thought she was asking too much lol. Now months and a bunch of videos later shes making a lot of sense. Hopefully i can stick to it
Definitely interested in the final video if you can find it. I have the same square flat nail and just began trying to change the shape. Very grateful for your content!
My nails are like this! They fan out😢. Now I have hope though. I’ve been watching your videos and have already seen improved skin and peeling isn’t as bad
Thank you so much; I’ve learned everything correctly thanks to you. I transitioned to the Dazzle Dry system thanks to you, and I’m very happy with it 😅 I feel much more confident with my manicure results. ❤
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video! Im going to give this a go over the summer and see how my nails fare. I've always had fanned wide nails, hopefully I can get them into a slightly nicer shape now :)
These look a lot like my natural nails. I have fanned out nails and I also have eggshell nails that bend and fold and tear like paper. Finally, I have nails that grow unevenly so that they grow faster on one side of the nail than the other and they try to form a sideways oval. I also have very thick sidewalls/calluses, especially where I used to have a periungual wart. I want pretty manicures so much but my skin around the nail is so thick and overgrown compared to healthier nail borders that I can seem to keep up. When I get acrylics, the acrylics even grow out unevenly on a few nails. To me, I use that as a sanity check that my nails really do grown unevenly to a noticeable degree. PLEASE HELP in any way you can.
You are so fast and good at shaping nails. It takes me forever. It’s so hard. I wish there was some kind of cheat/help I could get. Something like a form or something. I’ve watched a lot of different videos and many times. I have been watching them repeatedly more lately as I saw a video where you said to watch videos a lot and you’ll learn to do it kind of automatically. (Not anywhere near an exact quote.)
i'm glad i found this video, i noticed my nails were slowly fanning out, starting with the ring fingers. i didn't know there was a term for it until your video lol i'm trying to take better care of my nails bc i've gotten so obsessed with press-on nails this year 💜
Thank you so much i havent seen anybody woth nails like mine so i felt sad that i dont have that pretty nail shape but thank you a lot to make video for people like us 😢❤️
A couple years back I had a friend teach me how to do this! It literally LITERALLY changed everything about how I felt about my nails. I no longer pick at them or bite them, I enjoy the filing process and I have fun painting them! I’m so grateful you shared this for anyone to find, thank you!
thank you so much i feel like this video got uploaded just in time for me i have the same problem with some of my nails (thank you for saying that our nails shouldn't necessarily have the same shape because i always wondered why some nails just look perfect naturally and others don't) i used to cut deep into the sides and i end up cutting myself and exposing the skin around the nail (that's very painful for the next 4~5 days) i will try your method and see how my nails respond to that
My nails look similar (and some of the past videos you have, I really need nail love lol!) and every time I shape like this, they are too thin on the edges just filed, and I end up with dry skin "snags" on the finger right where the white meets the nail bed. I can't understand why I get that dry skin. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Found your channel last night and am hooked!
What is the healthy level of flexibility for nails? Or how flexible is too flexible? Is it desirable to have nails that do not bend at all? Thank you so much, I really appreciate your videos.
if you are using any products with nail hardeners in it, stop using them (sometimes they are included in base coats). They often make the nails too brittle. Using Jojoba oil on your nails a regular basis is a better option, as it makes the nails grow stronger while maintaining their natural flexibility. If you have naturally thick nails, they have less flexibility because of the thickness, but if you are not using any hardeners they should still have enough natural flexibility to not break. @@DebbieK1107
Hello! Thank you for putting out all the useful content! I did DIY on my toe nails with your routine and it came out amazing! After watching this video, I have a question on how to do the opposite… my finger nails are naturally curved inwards on the sides. I noticed that it’s less curved right after a shower when my nails are moist and softer. Even if I applied cuticle oil and lotion, after a while, it started to from the curve again. How could I make them more fanned out and less curved? Thank you!
I've been shaping my nails this way for quite a long time already 'cause I really loved that almond shape people had while having gel or any of that stuff so I wanted it but with my natural nails, it looks really cute, I like it
Thank you so much for this informative video! This is so helpful. Could you please explain a bit more what you do to the cuticles? Am I right in thinking you do not cut but push back? Thank you!
When I’m not applying nail polish or using falsies, my nails don’t have a c shape, they have parentheses shapes ( ). Will be using this to help prevent further fanning down the line. Idk if that’s a possibility but it could be. You’re a saint
This is incredible. My nails are just like that. I’m going to take your advice and aim to emulate what you did. In your filing are you filing back and forth? I was told you’re only supposed to file one direction repeatedly. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Actually I was doing this some times unknowingly but I didn’t do it in routine. But I also sometimes thought after doing this filing if I force them to be on sides by putting some bandages or bandaid to force them into that shape, but never tried😅
This makes me so happy! Thank you for sharing. I understand the filing process, can you please share how you changed the shape of the nail bed? It looks like they got longer! ❤
I'm no nail specialist but I do this already from common sense since my school days. Im 39 now btw....... And finally while applying the paint I leave a few millimetres from the sides .. doesn't look odd, its looks like a fashion
Hello and thank you for this video! This is exactly what I don't like about my own nails... one question: will I get the same result if I cut them on the sides with a clipper instead of filling the sides? Greetings from Greece!!!
My grandma is in hospice and one of the aides does her nails for her but she makes them fan out and not oval and they grow out a little and cut into her skin around the nails and are very painful and we have to file them to be more oval.
I am trying to do this for my boyfriend's fan shaped nails. The problem i am experiencing is he has short nail beds, separation of the nail bed that goes straight across so the white of the nail is long even without passing the tip of the finger. We want to keep his nails short with a clean appearance, so i have bought him a nail brush and asked him to not scrape under the white of the nails to clean because we are trying to encourage the nail bed to lengthen while shaping it into ovals. I dont want to cut that white off back to the nailbed because its so far. Advice welcome.
This is amazing!!! Thank you, Anna. I have been following your advice for a couple of years, and my peeling, bendy nails are finally looking healthy and feeling stronger. (Jojoba oil is a miracle oil worker!). My nails are all very different shapes, many of them triangular 😂 I assumed that the shape could not be changed, but this video proves otherwise. ❤ Now that they are healthy and that I have established a manicure routine (all thanks to your advice and guidance), I am going to think about the shape. This video will help enormously. Out of interest, Anna, do you offer online appointments in which you could guide and teach people how to shape their own nails? I know you offer your advice service with sending in pictures but I just wondered if you offer live calls too?
Hi Lucy! I have tried live calls and it’s difficult because most people don’t have the set up for me to actually see what they are doing. Most people have hard time to take pictures that are bright enough and clear enough for me to see what’s going on with their nails. I think I’m going have to start in person classes :)) These are the best :))
I 100% know this isn't fake. I didn't even know I had nails that are fanning out until I had to file down my entire free edge (my nails were a bit brittle after removing fake nails and broke off during work where my hands get wet all the time) and start over. I let them grow naturally without any manicure and was a bit shocked that they would start to fan out. I had to re-shape them later and could literally see how the skin around the nails changed its shape. I always thought I had the same nail shape as my mom, but it's really a combination of my mom's small nail bed and my dad's nails (which are fanning out too). How did I not know? Well, I always intuitively did my manicure similar to what you did on your client. And I had started at a very young age. Prior to this, my mom had done it for me. She never just cut my nails, she always filed and shaped them too as soon as it was possible.
I have been binge watching your videos, and really taking on board what you say about oils. However you seem to use nail polish a lot, and a, just wondering - is it still worth using oil if you have nail polish on?
This is so cool!! Okay so you must only file the front/a little bit of the sides of the nails? And can I trim my nails with nail scissors? Or is that not okay? Thank you for your help! Subscribed immediately :)
I know that you recommend using a buffing block for smoothing out after filing. But what should be the grit, and is the grit the same between different materials, or does it only apply to the "sandpaper" files, not glass, metal etc. (I never seem to see any reference to grit on files that aren't the emery board kind)? I was looking for some buffers and they were like 100-120 grit, just like a regular file! That seems too rough for buffing the nails! But also if it's the same as a file, it can't exactly give you a smoother finish. On the other end are the two-sided flat shiners, like 400/3000. Which is also not the best fit for this purpose. So I'm assuming something like 200 or 300 should be fine? But it's not a popular choice for the buffing blocks, I have trouble finding any that "high"!
Hello there :) Thank you for writing! Yes the grit is the same but buffers are more gentle because they have the "bend", they "give" and they don't put a lot of pressure on the nail plate. I recommend 220 or 300 grit but some buffers that are 180 are good too. These are the ones I use: Gold Buffing Block amzn.to/3p2EooJ Gold buffing block amzn.to/3LagbY0
I am experiencing a lot of issues with my natural nails. Due to iron deficiency, calcium deficiency and hypothyroidism, they have become very deformed. Every nail has a different and asymmetrical shape. Some have partially detached from the nail bed, making the nail plate shorter. Some have bent on one side, which made the free edge a wavy line. If I don't grow them out, you can tell the nail bed is way too short. But when I do grow them out, the free edge is ugly and crooked. I am looking for a way to save them because I don't want to resort to fake nails which are both damagining and expensive. I have also had the issue of fanning out for many years and I have been filing the sides to mimic growth in a straight line. However, this has only helped until the nail grows out with its real width and again the new free edge fans out again. I would love any advice
QUESTION 🙋🏼♀️ I WAS WONDERING HOWMYOU FEEL About Dip nails properly done guidelines followed I've been studying 3 months and ready to plunge to keep them from breaking the story of my life !!
How often should we file our nails? I tend to only file once every two to three weeks when I need them to be shorter. Does this style of filing need to be done weekly?
hey:) i really love all your videos. i have a question: when filing my nails, i often develop tough skin around the edges where the nail meets the skin, likely due to occasional contact with the file. any suggestions to prevent this?
If you shape your nails this way, will the nail shape change after sometime? i mean, will the nail bed grow out and the nails get straighter with time or not? i am curious.
Odd question, perhaps, but how could you go about changing nail beds in the opposite direction? Mine are naturally very long, and even if I file the nail down to the quick, I still can't get my fingertip down flat and stable on a violin string. Broader nails often seem to end further back on the fingertip, and that would be really convenient at least for my left hand. Thank you!
I never knew it was so simple! However, is it possible for the toenails as well? My smallest toe grows wild and free, it has no shape to speak of lol. The skin around doesn't encase the nail like my fingers' do, i think it's because it's nail bed is very tiny.

Thank you! Recently, I started doing my own nails and have been struggling with this. I'll try this the next time I do them
I have this problem, so it’s good to know there’s hope! I’ve only recently realised that the nails on my middle fingers look they’re growing at a slight sideways angle, instead of straight down, so they’re particularly tricky for me.
Keep practicing, that is why I recommend shaping once a week :) More practice
It's not a problem, just a unique trait! Everyone's nails grow differently! It is 100% an aesthetic choice ❤
It's common, keep practicing :))
Anna...you are a true magician!
Somewhat of a "nail whisperer"😉
I'm truly impressed by your natural, in a way, simplified approach.
Thank you so much 🤗
I am so glad I found this video. I might be able to get my huge thumb nails narrow!!! ☺️
This is exactly what my nails look like! This video is for me
My nails are like this!
Wonderful!
Thank you for sharing this! Love all your generous info you give!
You are so welcome!🥰
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video! Im going to give this a go over the summer and see how my nails fare. I've always had fanned wide nails, hopefully I can get them into a slightly nicer shape now :)
I assumed the shape of my nail bed was fixed. Like just the one side of my middle finger does this (maybe from holding a pen). Thanks so much!
Mine use to fan out but fixed it just like this! Took a long time but they look great now.
If you don’t do anything to them, would they not grow fanned out again ?
(Not anywhere near an exact quote.)
i'm glad i found this video, i noticed my nails were slowly fanning out, starting with the ring fingers. i didn't know there was a term for it until your video lol
i'm trying to take better care of my nails bc i've gotten so obsessed with press-on nails this year 💜
Thank you so much i havent seen anybody woth nails like mine so i felt sad that i dont have that pretty nail shape but thank you a lot to make video for people like us 😢❤️
A couple years back I had a friend teach me how to do this! It literally LITERALLY changed everything about how I felt about my nails. I no longer pick at them or bite them, I enjoy the filing process and I have fun painting them! I’m so grateful you shared this for anyone to find, thank you!
Your videos are so helpful for nail enthusiast like me!
Glad you like them!
Thank you! This is so good! I thought I was stuck with a few ugly nail shapes! Video at the end was really helpful too
thank you so much i feel like this video got uploaded just in time for me
i have the same problem with some of my nails (thank you for saying that our nails shouldn't necessarily have the same shape because i always wondered why some nails just look perfect naturally and others don't)
i used to cut deep into the sides and i end up cutting myself and exposing the skin around the nail (that's very painful for the next 4~5 days) i will try your method and see how my nails respond to that
Ouch!! No, no, gentle and consistent care is the best :)
Hello :) Thank you for your kind words!
Flexibility is good, without any flex the nails are brittle and shatter.
My nails are very hard, not flexible at all. What is the best treatment, if any, to make them more flexible?
if you are using any products with nail hardeners in it, stop using them (sometimes they are included in base coats).
Thank you!
I've been shaping my nails this way for quite a long time already 'cause I really loved that almond shape people had while having gel or any of that stuff so I wanted it but with my natural nails, it looks really cute, I like it
Oh my god thank you so much. I have this problem and this video randomly popped up in my recommended. You're a godsent!
Glad I could help! Nice to "meet" you :))
She has said in the past that it’s OK to file back and forth. Can’t remember if it depends on the type of file you use though.
That's amazing to see !
this method made the white of my nails go up too ;~; i'd love to know how to fix it too, my nails break so much easier now
I’ve always been so insecure about my nails, never knew there was a solution
I have been looking for a video like this for years!!!!!! Thank you❤.
Thank you for your time and wisdom. I've learned so much from you since last April to now.
Thank you so much for your kind words!! ❤️
Amazing, what a difference 🥰
I had no idea this could be corrected, amazing
I'm no nail specialist but I do this already from common sense since my school days. Im 39 now btw....... And finally while applying the paint I leave a few millimetres from the sides .. doesn't look odd, its looks like a fashion
So anna, just filing the nails that way consistently makes it grow into that shape?
Hello and thank you for this video! This is exactly what I don't like about my own nails... one question: will I get the same result if I cut them on the sides with a clipper instead of filling the sides? Greetings from Greece!!!
very prettyy! im new in this game and wishing to improve ✋🏻✋🏻
Hi, great video!! Will this method work on toe nails too or is the approach different?
Tell him not to cut his nails at all. I think if he files them once a week to maintain a certain length then they will reattach on their own
This is amazing!!! ❤
Now that they are healthy and that I have established a manicure routine (all thanks to your advice and guidance), I am going to think about the shape.
As someone who has sensory issues over when my nails have sharp corners, I'm going to try this out
I 100% know this isn't fake.
Thank you for this very lovely and educational video ❤
I have been binge watching your videos, and really taking on board what you say about oils. However you seem to use nail polish a lot, and a, just wondering - is it still worth using oil if you have nail polish on?
Yes, oil benefits the polish to a degree and certainly the skin around the nails
This is what I started doing to my nails and it works.
Thank you for sharing this, you're amazing! My nails look like the before pictures 😅 New follower 😊
Hello and welcome :)))
This is so cool!! Okay so you must only file the front/a little bit of the sides of the nails? And can I trim my nails with nail scissors? Or is that not okay? Thank you for your help! Subscribed immediately :)
I didn't even know this was possible to do 👀 there is hope! 😅
Thank you so much! But how often should I do this? And for how long?
I never knew people were insecure about their nail shape (mine are exactly like those in the video). Tbh I like my nail shape the way it is
Thanks for this video! My nails fan out as they grow.
Is there any way to make the nail bed longer for people who have short and potentially uneven/asymmetrical nail beds?
Amazing 🤩 and the music is so relaxing
Thank you 🤗
I have excatly the same issue, now I finally hope I could have beautifully shaped nails! 💅
Don’t give up! Be gentle and consistent.
These are the ones I use:

How does nail polish effect the shape of the nail? I would really like to know.
Trafiłam przez przypadek i musiałam przeskrolowac komentarze żeby sprawdzić czy Pani nie ma polskich konotacji :D ❤
Informative video - thank you. Love the music! Can you tell me what it is? (it's so relaxing!)
hey:) i really love all your videos. i have a question: when filing my nails, i often develop tough skin around the edges where the nail meets the skin, likely due to occasional contact with the file. any suggestions to prevent this?
Such beautiful progress ❤
If you shape your nails this way, will the nail shape change after sometime? i mean, will the nail bed grow out and the nails get straighter with time or not? i am curious.
Just like a haircut, this is not permanent :))
Oh my god my nails fan out like that and I always thought I was doomed to have ugly shaped nails. This is a game changer!
You do such a great job ❤
Hi Queen! Is this client using Dazzle Dry polish?
Odd question, perhaps, but how could you go about changing nail beds in the opposite direction? Mine are naturally very long, and even if I file the nail down to the quick, I still can't get my fingertip down flat and stable on a violin string. Broader nails often seem to end further back on the fingertip, and that would be really convenient at least for my left hand.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I try it out for sure❤
I never knew it was so simple! However, is it possible for the toenails as well? My smallest toe grows wild and free, it has no shape to speak of lol. The skin around doesn't encase the nail like my fingers' do, i think it's because it's nail bed is very tiny.
I was today days old (almost 42) when I realized my nails had hope!
