- One of the greatest runners in Cowboys history (some think he is the best runner). Dorsett had plenty of speed to create long, breakaway runs. Also had the moves to leave defenders grasping at air. Dorsett won the Heisman Trophy with Pittsburgh in 1976, then got drafted by the Cowboys in 1977. He didn't start right away, but won the NFL Rookie of the Year along with a Super Bowl.
Dorsett ran for over 1,000 yards eight times in his career and set a record against the Vikings with a 99 yard touchdown run. He ran for almost 13,000 yards and scored 90 touchdowns in his career. Biggest knock on him was the fumbling; he had as many fumbles (90) as he did touchdowns (90) in his career. He was a 1x First Team All Pro, 4x Pro Bowler, and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In my opinion and in all of sports ( thru out history as well ), TD is THE most beautiful runner EVER....GOD, how I wish I could run like him..
I agree He's second on the list only one ran more graceful then him and that was OJ. Check out OJs highlights.
I can respect that, but I've seen interviews from other HOF RB from Jim Brown to Walter Payton and the say Gale Sayers was the most beautiful runner ever. I also think that TD was a better RB than Emmitt Smith. My opinion.
True and he is the MOST DANGEROUS RUNNER EVER. !
My favorite back ever
@@charlestinsley5961 let’s not rule out Barry Sanders. He was a great runner and he moved so beautifully
My favorite RB of all time. Electrifying. If Landry would have run him more against the Steelers we win that SB. They couldn't handle his speed. 15 carries wasn't enough.
Same, he made me love football.
That 33 is Iconic, in Cowboy lore
And 88
Totally true. He’s always been my favorite cowboy
I think you're right. I have that game on DVD and can't understand why they didn't give Tony more carries.
As a Steeler fan from that era, I'm glad they stopped giving him the ball.
Too busy trying to make Roger the savior like russel Wilson and Marshawn lynch. Same shit different toilet
His first step is unparallel.
Thanks for the memories Roger & Tony
...and Danny (White)
Tony Dorsett is the single reason that I fell in love with football and played running back for 11 years. I was literally obsessed with him. His vision and smooth quickness were unmatched.
My first memory of the NFL was the 77-78 Super Bowl Dallas vs Denver, and I’ve been a fan of TD ever since.
I am still obsessed with him - ever since I saw his first game in 1977
My all time favorite running back to watch...one of the few backs, unlike most of the other greats, he had the acceleration to break any run, any time. You just held your breath watching him.
A long time cowboys fan he is one of my favorite players. Do not hear him mentioned much except clips like this unfortunately
Just an opinion.
I think Walter Payton was the GOAT, but I know Dorsett was the fastest and most agile RB I'd ever seen play the game!
He was a very spectacular and exciting player to watch! ✌️😎
Like wise, Tony isnt the Greatest but definitely my favorite.
He was the fastest until Chris Johnson
Nobody in the history of the NFL had speed & acceleration like Tony D.
He could turn on a dime, while going faster than everybody else. His ability to change direction at that speed always amazed me.
If i could only have one back that Dallas has had for 1-5 years itd be tony over emmitt.
Much faster and might have been the better back very unappreciated a great player
He is my favorite football player of all time! Once my late father turned on the TV set in the fall of 1979 & I saw the Dallas Cowboys for the first time ever I was in love with them right then & there. But when I saw #33 running with the football I thought that he was a God! Tony Dorsett became my all time favorite football player right then & there. That was 45 years ago. I have been a Dallas Cowboys fan since then but I had fallen in love with how Tony Dorsett played the game of football right then and there. 99 yards & a half baby! That record will never be broken! You are the man Tony!
Same here brother
Tony Dorsett was the most electric and speedy running back who can do everything. He was very underrated and unappreciated by the league. I feel he was the best player during his era.
He never gets mentioned enough. Fun to watch, a great running back.
Dallas’ best ever RB, EVER. Touchdown Tony Dorsett
I can watch his videos ALLLL DAMMM DAY!!
Could hit the gap at amazing speed
The ONLY Cowboy jersey I'll have on the wall in the den. -STEELERS'77- 🤜🏿🤛🏿😎
I have five pro jerseys 4 of them have 33 on them ! Any questions!
My Father Bart III, loved watching Dorsett in 1970s....Blown away. Mad Dog 🐕 Sweeney
He set the collegiate rushing record at a time when they didn’t count your bowl game stats. And Ricky Williams broke his record during the regular season. When they only played 10 or 11 regular season games. That’s why I will always have mad respect for those two accomplishments.
Was not just his speed, but his vision.
who thinks tony dorsett is the best👇
Anthony Dorsett Sr. will always be my favorite running back! My Dad made it look easy, he didn't have the struggle runs. Struggle runs are dragging people, getting hit by every player on defense, the punishing runs that hurt the defense and punish the back in the process. I could talk for days about my Dad, he still has moves & speed today. ❤️💪🏾💯
Tony Dorsett was my favorite and one of the greatest and the greatest breakaway running back but the goat is Jim Brown
HERM EDWARDS COULDNT CATCH EITHER DORSETT OR HARRIS WHAT ELSE IS HE GONA SAY,,
The One n Only Mr TD! My favorite Cowboys team of that era.
Drew pearson was always up front blocking for Tony Dorset
As a longtime fan of the Washington Redskins, this man was one of the best.
STILL THE FASTEST RUNNING BACK EVER,,,
Tony Dorsett the 70s & 80s version of Barry Sanders.
I didnt know he had moves like that. Great clip!
So many times, 88 right by 33.
Incredible! He runs like Walter Payton without putting the physical hurt on those who attempted to stop him.
He's faster!

Definitely! Payton R.I.P. was one of the greats that was run down from behind many times.
One of the time greats and a great man
Slow motion highlights don't do justice to Dorsett, Barry Sanders, or Dan Marino.
When you see them in real speed, it's jaw dropping. Tons of younger folks don't realize their skills or why they are a big deal. It should be required viewing.
TD, Earl & Walter were ALWAYS my favorites from that era !!!!! In that era, you had to have a great RB to have any kind of offense because the passing game wasn't that dominant. Teams ran the ball far more in the mid-late 1970's & early 80's. Passing game was liberalized in the late 70's with the "Mel Blount" rule.
No running back in history was as fast off the line of scrimmage as Tony Dorsett. They guy was at full speed as soon as he crossed the line of scrimmage.
Just Ask the player's he played against him and then you can see how good he was!!!!😂!!!!"
Tony Dorsett & OJ Simpson had similar styles of the running back position.
Gale Sayers. Had he not blown his knee, just imagine. He broke defenders' ankles.
If he and Staubach would have played more together more super bowls
Why are highlights always shown in slo-mo? It is okay to show them at normal speed, right?
And what about the time he was put on the DL because he dropped a mirror on his big toe, LOL!
Tony Dorsett is Why Dallas won Superbowls 🏈👍
He was born in 1954 and he played on our team that’s wassup ngl our best rb of all time
Tony Touchdown Dorsett, don't blink he's gone to the end zone
Tom Laundry fouled up big time.
Don't make'um like they used to. Period!
The Best!!!!!! My favorite player of all time!!!!!!!
That's when they were " America's Team "
TD, the best ever, enough said
Yeah yeah yeah 2024 and beyond.
That's when I was a Dallas fan.
He was amazing
The 2 most beautiful runners I've seen, in my humble opinion, are Tony Dorsett and Eric Dickerson. Dickerson always ran with his shoulders squared. His movement and power came from the waist down
Tony was always fun to watch. Just gteatness.
The Cowboys saw how an elusive versatile back like Terry Metcalf w Don Coryells St Louis Cards could propel an offense and drafted TD. He was incredibly fast and smooth and complimented the rest of the offense. Closest later was Marshall Faulk who almost has identical stats.
He was slippery
Tony Dorsett and Roger Craig are my two favorite running backs. I could watch them all day.
My favorite player on my favorite team. Can't forget all of his fumbles though.
Smooth
If he played today there would be 4 players on every team that could run with him but then there wasn’t 4 players in the league that could.
If Dorsett was "Too Small" then so was Payton R.I.P.
Loved T.D. at Pitt!
1:43 marked so the green idolizers can find Dorsett demonstrating another example of why track stars don't necessarily make the best football players.
I met him in 1978 when I was starting my senior year in high school. Jay saldi ran a summer camp at briarcliff high school in westchester county ny and Tony was there one day running 40s with us kids. I was 5’11” 180 and he was about my height and maybe 5-10 pounds bigger. He was at the 40 when I was passing the 30 haha. Payton was built different. 5’10” but 205-210. A couple steps slower than dorsett though
If you didn't see him you missed a treat
I'd rather have Csonka or Emmitt if I had a Superbowl game to win. But I'd rather watch Tony's highlights on UA-cam if I want to see a guy simply run with the football.
Dorsett was so over rated...
