I had a subscriber who was very popular around Nightwish who came to every video that featured Nightwish in any capacity. Official videos, reaction videos etc. she was an absolute legend. About 3 years ago a rumour went round that turned out to be true that she suffered a serious back injury and she was 70 years old at the time. Her husband set up a go fund me of about 5,000 for medical bills. I donated 50 upon hearing about it, made videos where I accompanied with a hashtag about her, talked about her very frequently on my stuff etc. She ended up passing away a couple months later and her loss was felt by those closest to her and to those who recognised her in the comments.
The point I’m trying to make is that she deserved more than any amount this con artist is getting.

writing a couple paragraphs and uploading photos takes like 1-2 hours. depends on the type of person, some people can't work or are doing it to support themselves because they physically cannot earn enough money for whatever reason (like hospital treatment). go fund me is fine but you have to go on there with some common sense because it is a public platform that anyone can upload to after all.

I think it's partially your fault if you didn't research, but it's still mostly the scammers fault as they're the ones who came up with, presented, and actually carried out the scam, and depending on how well the scam was created, researching could end up being pointless until the scam is revealed to the public.
I don't fully agree with this take, while yes it is mostly your fault if you fall for this type of stuff, most people will let their guard down and get convinced that its the right thing to do without doing any research. It's also partly the site's fault for not preventing this to happen. PLUS some types of scam companies will do everything to get rid of any negativity.
