    This video talks about installing a transmission cooler on my jeep tj. it has a 42rle transmission and i discovered that the last time i was out on the trial in the winter that the transmission temp had spiked. I never had this issue before the supercharger was installed. after installing the hayden transmission cooler i never had this issue again.

    Lol didn't realize who was talking till end of video. This guy is funny. I had about same size trans cooler installed along with my 2000 Altima's rebuilt Transmission. I'm in Southern California weather. $50. Oil Cooler plus about $80 to install is cheap compared to Transmission damage due to heat. In addition I installed radiator fan assembly since previous one went out. Highly recommend Trans cooler for any Auto Trans.

    The diagram at the beginning is so helpful. Will be doing this, this weekend. Does the 04 TJs have the exit on the same side of the radiator as your 03? I feel like I read somewhere that on certain years it was reversed. Thank you!

    i also see you ran it differently than your diagram. Always run a cooler AFTER the Rad..

    I’ve been watching your videos for years. I don’t work on cars but enjoy the entertainment. I have a 2021 Chevy blazer 3LT V6. The dealer offers a VR2 trailering package upgrade only available at time of purchase which changes the towing capacity from 1500lbs to 4500lbs. Everything I’ve read online says it’s just a more powerful transmission/engine cooling system and no other changes are mentioned. My blazer does not have the trailering vr2 package. I’ve talked to a few mechanics and one said he called the dealer and there are two different radiators compatible with my blazer and it has the transmission oil cooler in it. He said one radiator is more powerful than the other. I’m starting to assume that is the vr2 upgrade which adds 3000lbs towing capacity. Do you think changing the radiator for the more powerful one would upgrade my blazer to being able to tow the same at the vr2 package? I’m trying to figure out if any other parts are different like if the transmissions are the same. It sounds like they both have a standard 9 speed transmission for all the blazer models that year. I have got my blazer new and paid off 50% of the loan so really can’t trade it in now since they would not give me anything near what it’s worth to me. It only has 20,000 miles. I locked in a really good interest rate and don’t want to trade the car in and lose the rate and all my equity I’ve gained. I really need to tow a travel trailer that is 3,800 lbs dry weight. Do you think I can work with my car and get the towing job done as is or with upgrading the radiator if I baby it on the road? Also how would I install a transmission temp gauge to ensure it’s not over heating? What’s your thoughts? Thanks!

      I went to the dealer and found out it has the same radiator and transmission just the upgrade was a trans cooler. I got the part number it's $157 from the dealer. There was also a tow mode and trans temp guage on the model with the tow package

    I had kind of same problem once. It was someone had removed the bottom portion of the fan shroud. Long story short went to junkyard got the lower shroud portion problem went away.

    Great video Jerry. I don't have a temp gauge on my trans so I don't know if she over heats or not but I'm thinkin of putting in a cooler just because there's nothing else left to do to my TJ other than lift it, which I can't be fucked doing. I think I'd die if I ever drank rum again. One too many benders on the stuff when I was in my 20's. A big night for me is a dozen beers and a few shooters of vodka. Woohoo!!

    Have you noticed a huge difference Jerry? The cooler with fan sounds appealing. Something I need to think about. I started over heating last weekend

    why not just do a standalone trans cooler? Its what came with my 05 /42RLE auto. Im installing a B&M HiTek Super cooler 20,500 BTU for the trans.

      Ya I went to the dealer and figured out that's what it was just a trans cooler. The radiator and transmission are the same. The model with the tow package also had a tow mode and trans temp guage, 7 pin wire connector, hitch and hitch cam. So putting the transcooler if even necessary should boost towing capacity a significant amount

    Is there any concern about maybe pinching or smashing those lines against radiator end tank when you're out wheeling, or are they tucked up a bit to where something else would get hit first? They seemed a bit exposed, but I'm also thinking it might be the angle of the camera.

    • @BackCountryWrenching
      @BackCountryWrenching  8 років тому

      if those line were going to get pinched your going to have a lot more damage to deal with besides for lines. there is a skid plate you can get

    • @crazyazgardener3627
      @crazyazgardener3627 8 років тому

      +Bullshitkorner Yep, true, lines will indeed be the least of your concerns at that point. A skidplate sounds like a good idea.

    Hi Jerry, I would like to add a trans cooler. I have a bone stock 2006 TJ 4.0 / 42rle with 53k miles, would you recommend adding a cooler or will i have issues with the trans not getting up to operating temps. I dont tow with it or wheel it. pretty much stays on the street and play in the snow. Nice cooler set up on your TJ.

    Can be connected directly from the transmission to the oilcooler without having to connect it to the radiator?

      You CAN do that but if you drive in a cold climate area, you might want warm engine coolant to help speed up the transmission warming in winter?

      Welcome to Canada. In March in Manitoba there was a 20celsius weekend, everyone golfing, next weekend it was -25. Weather in the spring on the prairies is fucking worse than your psycho ex bi-polar girlfriend.
