I have recently installed one of your coolers to my BT50. I immediately noticed a substantial drop in temperature and the box seemed to perform better especially towing a 2.5 t van. I run a automotive mechanical workshop in the eastern suburbs of Perth and have started recommending auto coolers from Wholesale Automatics to my customers. Great gear!!!
Thanks for addressing the 'how cool is too cold' topic. I've fitted a trans cooler to my 150 Prado 3.0L, which was commonly running temps of 105 to 107 up hills, just heavily loaded (i.e.not towing). Now I've dropped at least 20 degrees off the top end, but for locked up highway driving the temps were sitting much lower than before at around 55 degrees. I was worried 55 was 'too cold' but seems there's nothing to worry about, so thanks for going into that. Cheers - David
I had the Ranger Ultimate bundle deal installed on my 2020 Ranger a month ago. ScanGauge 2 was regularly reading ATF temp around 102 to 105 degrees. Now with the twin heavy duty cooler, bypass value and deep cast sump the temp is down around 70 to 73 degrees.
Hi Murray I have a 2021 wildtrak with the 10 speed and my van is usually at about 2800kg up or down by 150kg I use an ultra gauge which reads in Fahrenheit so I sit at 90km or just aver when towing and the temp has never made it to 185F even when towing in 38C. I towed through the Adelaide hills on the express way it was cool but again never exceeded 180F. Is your the 6 speed? Pretty curious about the differences.
Can you get the 2 readings of "pan temp" and "torque converter temp" on the scangauge for 2013 rangers like you can 2018 hiluxs with scangauges? Or do rangers only have 1 box temp sensor @WholesaleAutomatics
I'm 13 years into my 200 with 180K on it. Mechanical sympathy is the #1 tool. being aware of EGT and trans temp are part of towing and knowing what you're doing. I have had nomad and lockup for years, also get trans serviced at Wholesale as needed, trans fluid has always been good. Also noticed with the Safari Armax ECU with crazy KW and Torque, the lockup stays in a lot longer without manually having to engage it.
I agree with your comments 100%. I have a 5 year old D-Max which has had a transmission cooler from new. I fitted it because I have a trayback camper for serious outback travel with a travelling weight of 3.3 to 3.5 tonnes. Temps are normally in the range 50 to 60 and up to 75 in heavy sand. The D-Max in standard form runs oil lines through the radiator water for cooling. This makes possible water getting into your transmission. For Isuzu' engines you would have to be mad not to disconnect the original oil cooler lines and fit an external transmission oil cooler.
I don't tow so I have not seen the high temperatures mentioned in the video but buying a Scan Gauge was a great investment for me for my 200 series. A bit of faffing around to be able to get the data from the ECU, thanks to the Landcruiser forum for the instructions on how to do that. I would definitely consider fitting an oil cooler if I was seeing the trans temperatures getting anywhere near 100c
I have a case 1150 dozer and have had it cook the oil several times running regularly up to 130 degrees. Put an auxiliary air cooler in front of radiator to augment the oil cooling tubes running through bottom tank of radiator. Now runs better. Great site you guys run. Thanks
Any thing that works under a load for more than a few hours a day gets an oil cooler on from tractors to to classic street cars 4WD’s to the boat. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
Greetings from Malaysia. Well explained. Good info for those not yet installed an aftermarket trans cooler. I can notice the transmission shift smoother after installing the cooler. Highly recommend all to get one. Thanks for your efforts.
Excellent explanation 👌. Explained why my Pajero Sport likes higher revs on long uphill towing. It will still pull in manual lower gear, however on auto it prefers a higher gear, obviously it's tracking transmission temperature. After throwing codes in manual once before, I tend to leave it in auto now.
You mentioned Scan Gauge and that you prefer temperature gauges. I forked out the extra dollars for a Scan Gauge III for the best of both worlds: gauges (9 instant glance gauges on 3 screens selectable by one press of the screen) and the ability to check/clear fault codes, simple OBDII one electrical cable connection, etc. SCIII has two coolant temp readings in my Ranger that can differ a few degrees to each other. Scan Gauge III measures in 1 degree increments for temps. It also allows me to see the tyre pressure gauge readings I didn’t even know were fitted to the car. I bought a 2nd hand 2016 Ranger and a relatively heavy van in close succession. The Ranger was not fitted with a trans cooler when we towed the van home, but I had one fitted not long after that first trip, and the transmission fluid replaced at the same time. The first trip in pouring rain and ambient temps in the high 20s saw the transmission temp up to 110 on the hills. With the cooler fitted and fresh fluid I’m consistently at 90 and under. Now I’m watching the trans temp less, but still like a hawk, and the coolant temps more which respond well to driving slower up big hills, only when necessary. I’m not a fan of holding others up just because I’m towing.
I had issues with my 6 speed ranger sticking in 3rd gear when towing. I had to manually shift gear. Since having a cooler fitted, it seems to have rectified this problem .I will be fitting the valve body upgrade after watching your videos.
WHAHOOO!!! Thank you for highlighting the problem with stainless and aluminium!! We have this exact issue in the Land Rover world where people think the stainless bolts will last longer, which they do, but the aluminium body is gone in 2-3 years! Water is thyn enemy.
Hi mate. I have a 2010 bt50 I fitted a cooler after rebuilding my auto that cost 4&a half K 😡. I've Just put a temp gauge on it & runs between 40 & the hottest it got is 66c going up the Toowoomba range. I've been wondering what it should run at so thank you so much for answering my question 👍. Keep up the awesome work champion.
Very good info, i have 2022 LSU dmax, travelled Perth to Brisbane along the south May last year, had engine guard fitted to observe temps, establish a trend. Picked up caravan in brisbane traveled Brisbane - Tennent creek - darwin back to perth , Obiously by now sept Oct temps picking up. No cooler fitted at this time. Soon after home in Perth , had a cooler fitted by Wangara Auto transmissions, noticable difference in Transmission Temps. As vidoe tells you ,have a temp gage, now use Scangage 3 . You will know if something goes amiss
I fitted a Mishimoto 500x190x19mm ATF cooler to my Toyota U760E transmission. It's the largest cooler I could fit behind the open area of the grill (the squarer coolers would be "hidden" behind the front bumper and not in the air flow). Since fitting the cooler my ATF runs at about 65 deg C most of the time and the fluid isn't black after a few weeks of driving like it used to be. My car is 11 years old and it shifts and drives better than ever.
Ive got a mk4 vw with the much hated o1m transmission, and i was shocked to see temps of 210-230 Fahrenheit on a light cruise. And ive seen 250 when running it hard. At least the fluid has been changed a bunch over its lifetime, but i recently added a big oil cooler What a change ,maybe its a placebo but it seems to shift nicer and is more responsive. Now im seeing 140-170 Fahrenheit for an average temp, and i havent seen it go more than about 190 yet. I know it won't last forever, but it's been pretty good for 140k! I just wish i did it sooner.
I agree with this man about lower gear helps the car climb better i live in Colombia where i put the car into 2nd gear to climb the slow 35 to 45kph windy roads. It stops from switching into 3 and 2 all the time
Thanks for all your videos. I fitted a HPD cooler on my 2015 DMax soon after I bought it. I was towing a 1.8 camper and the trans light came on. The place I bought the car from said I don’t need to put a cooler on. Yes they were wrong. Q: it’s it a good idea to fit a thermo fan in front of the cooler for slow speeds. Dave
great vid Rocket ,I had one installed up here in QLD two weeks ago on my 4lt V6 auto Hilux best move I've done for towing our camper trailer around Australia transmission is cool as now , thanks again for your help with solving and stopping a problem somewhere up the long winding road ahead
Rod you need to buy Jeremy a drill driver, he does a great job. I installed a cooler about 2 Months ago in my MR Triton best move ever Keep up the good work. Ps Get back on the tracks we miss you out there. I tow and go offroad and it has helped out with my temps.
Really enjoyed this video. I tried 4th gear instead of 5th on my PX1 ranger towing our 3.1 tonne van. Worked a treat. Lowered temps from 97° to 92.6° for a cost of 500rpm. This about normal around town temps for me. As you said rangers run warm! Having said that my wholesale trans cooler doesn’t help in stop/start city traffic sadly. Maybe a fan would help?
No room for a thermal fan and not the fix you should be looking for. What you really need is the thermal bypass valve installed as that will allow the coolers to work 100% of the time. The trouble is your current thermal valve is holding the oil temp at 90c + which is a complete pain. Fit the thermal valve and you will notice a huge difference. Here is the web link: automatictransmission.com.au/shop/thermal-cooler-bypass-valve-with-install-kit-to-suit-ranger-and-bt-50-6-speed-autos/
3 transmissions on my 2001 Dodge diesel truck burnt up before 2nd transmission shop found oil cooler was plugged up. Hopefully the 4th transmission lasts longer with the new oil cooler installed.
Thank you for a great and informative video. I have a 2020 3.2l Ranger and regularly run above 100 degrees. Your video prompts me to ask two questions. 1. How would the installation of an aftermarket product, like an oil cooler, affect vehicle warranty in the event of a transmission failure? This question would seem particularly relevant if an unlikely leak developed in a hose to the cooler or some other event that could be linked to an after-market installation. 2. Why do Ford engineers make these vehicles like this, which according to you will possibly make them more likely to early failure? I do understand if you do not answer this one.😊
Greg, we are yet to have ever seen a single case. They can't void your warranty as it's against consumer law, however if a problem is the direct result of our product, then I can't blame them for handballing you back to us and we are fully insured for such an occurrence. Luckily, after thousands of sales no problems so far. We have even had dealers call and order kits to help them with their own customers requirements. To answer your second question, If you use them as an everyday runabout they would be fine although would still last longer with an oil cooler installed simply due to making the seals last a lot longer but when adding bull bars, winches, off road tires, engine tunes, and the list goes on and on not even considering towing at this point. We do a lot with our vehicles in Australian that is considered largely uncommon in almost every other country, so when any manufacture is trying to build a vehicle for a widest possible worldwide market the Australians are certainly at the extreme end of the scale and I'm sure this makes their job far more difficult. Best answer I have I'm afraid Greg.
I've installed one of your coolers in my prado 120 i tow a van as well, we have done a few big trips before the cooler and after the install and it makes a huge difference with the cooler the power transfer is a lot smother and dose not seem to fade away id say its due to the oil staying cooler.
I fitted 2 tranny coolers to my 120 series prado, only change the oil in the tranny ever 150,000ks still pink & no burnt smell. I also put one on my power steering pump at the same time. Car has done over600,00ks & never had the pan off the tranny. Bob Blyde
I had a different brand on my last Prado, decided to go with yours on the new one, and just ordered it today, Question; does the 2022 Prado 150 really need a lock-up kit? I had one on the last 2017 but that one (130kw) struggled a lot more than this one (150kw). I tow a 1500kg camper infrequently.
Hey guys I appreciate the information. This video is fantastic 🎉 I was wondering if it is better to bypass the radiator completely and have the cooler independent, running directly to and fro the transmission? What do yall think?
I the case of the Nissan Navara yes, Ford ranger yes but that has more to do with needing to to be able to ad the huge oil coolers. In all other cases no, you run both to get the most out of the cooling.
I watched John's video then I watched this one. They both gave me a better insight into auto cooling. The one question I still have is weather you would recommend running the trans oil through both the radiator and the cooler. I have a HDJ100, 5 speed auto, and it runs a cooler and the radiator. Thanks for a very informative video. Cheers, Phil, NZ.
coolant temp on nearly all modern vehicles around 90 degrees c so it's interesting to hear you recommend temps not go much over that, an engine coolant heat exchanger is going to have trans temp at 90c with no load and when the coolant temp cspikes to 100-120c (which is still fine if not boiling) on a hill so will the trans oil. i would've said oil temps over 140c are starting to become an issue.
No, not many run that high and even the new Next Gen Ranger has removed the thermal valve from factory to bring the temps down a little more now that they are running a lighter weight oil. Most models start to go into some sort of preservation mode at around 120c and most will also start to fault code at 125c. Only the older 4 speed autos used to be able to run at the hotter temps but not the newer 5 speed onwards models. I used to tell people to pull over at 140c until we started getting feedback that most don’t make it close to 140c without warning going off.
Hi Rod great info, I fitted a PWR auto cooler to my 2010 Colorado when I first purchased it, definitely agree that it makes a difference.I tow a camper trailer and when not towing and 4x4ing it is the best insurance in my opinion, Ive bypassed the radiator as I have the larger cooler that was available.in addition I am looking at putting heat shield(designed for hoses) over the return line, if you can comment on this from your professional advise would greatly appreciate.
I would be reconnecting the radiator as one cooler is not enough for the Colorado. Reconnect so flow goes though radiator first then the new cooler second. You just need to install flexible conduit to all the new cooler lines.
Have you fitted an American Toyota Tundra 5.7 V8 ? (My year 2019) Models years 2019,2020, & 2021 Toyota left the transmission cooler out and the engineers say they tested and you do not need Transmission cooler. As per your video I would say that yes I need one. Would you happen to have a kit that would mount in front by the grill with a mounting Plate. ( By the way I have noticed that my truck runs better in cold days , Transmission runs in the 160F to 180'S.). Thank you Sir
Yes we have and we have a Tundra Cooler Kit is stock, here is the web link Carlos: automatictransmission.com.au/select-your-vehicle/toyota/tundra/5-7l-v8-petrol-with-6-speed-auto/?make=Toyota&model=Tundra&series=5.7L%20V8%20Petrol%20with%206%20Speed%20Auto
Hey mate thanks for the vid. I am having your full kit fitted to my PX2 Ranger in two weeks next door to you guys as I left the booking way too late and you are all booked out anyway I done an 8 month trip of Tassie last year April to December towing our caravan all over the isle and the Ranger was working very very hard at times especially in the West I often wondered weather the transmission would hold up which it did without me knowing if it too indeed struggled. we are heading off to the Cape early August towing the caravan leaving it with friends in Cairns then off to do the Telegraph track and on return to Melbourne heading West to Darwin then down the middle and back home I would say this is the time the cooler will truly come very handy. You totally rebuilt my son Frank Jr's PX2 Silver Ranger not that long ago.Any extended away trips in the pipeline?
Does installing the cooler in front of radiator / intercooler reduce the airflow to those units ie meaning there is a flow on effect? How do these effect warranty? Don't get me wrong, I understand now more than ever the benefits of having one installed.. just curious!
Great question and are yet to have ever seen a single case. They can't void your warranty as it's against consumer law, however if a problem is the direct result of our product, then I can't blame them for handballing you back to us and we are fully insured for such an occurrence. Fitted your cooler to my 18 Colorado, leaving on Sunday for Darwin towing a 2.4t van, car has had a remap, bullbar, winch 9”driving lights, rocksliders, rear bar, canopy, rear drawer, 147ltr LR tank, 265/75/16 Wildpeak AT3W tyres, 3” ehhaust with a hotdog only. Its getting up there in weight . The cooler when not towing has the trans at mid 60c, it was around 80c pre trans service and cooler fitment . Will be interesting to see how it performs as the hottest i have had the trans oil was 117c coming up the Adelaide hills after the V8 Supercars in December last year towing the van.
No, you really don't need the fan as you have some sort of forward movement and the engine fan is normally pulling air over the coolers anyway. As for why you need one, well that's easy and as explained in this episode. Heat kills autos and reduces the life span, with a cooler the oil and rubber seals last a hell of a lot longer. It makes massive difference. It's not always about overheating but more about helping the auto last a lot longer.
G’day Rod. Great video. Interested in any thoughts or experiences on your new cooler on a Next Gen Ranger. Generally I find my transmission (v6 XLT) only runs on the hotter side idle at the lights, and towing my van in hilly terrain. Seen it get rather warm on the beach too (40 degree day) - however nothing over 100 degrees, even whilst towing. In your experience, will adding a cooler block or restrict any air flow into the radiator? Keep up the great vids 👌
Cooler is a must have for the new Next Gen rangers, Doesn't restrict flow as there was plenty of room to keep both coolers just on the one side. We have them on special at eh moment, here is the web link: automatictransmission.com.au/select-your-vehicle/ford/ranger/ford-ranger-ra-next-gen-3-0l-v6-turbo-diesel-with-10-speed-auto/?make=Ford&model=Ranger&series=RA%20Next%20Gen%20-%203.0L%20V6%20Turbo%20Diesel%20with%2010%20Speed%20Auto
Loving the Vids guys. 2015 BT50 , I have booked mine in for the Ultimate Bundle to be installed in June. Does it have a water cooled standard cooler in it already and if it does, will that be bypassed or maintained?
A great video. Thank you. Do I need to check with the manufacturer as to whether such a cooler will affect the warranty. Do you have a recommended installer in Canberra? Thanks
With the 79 conversion do you run the standard 200 series cooler? or is it a bigger improved version. Even on the earlier conversion kits from say 2015 onwards.
Love my duel cooler. More confident when towing that im not pushing the transmission as hard. 200 pre dpf. Only issue I have is the xpodition cooncept catch can mounts in the way. I did modify the cooler to be on the driver side. Some threaded rod and nylock nuts did the trick. Closer to the condenser now. Holds temps cooler by 15-20 degrees. Drops temps quicker after hills when towing. Was wondering about fitting a 3rd pwr cooler and if it would be too restricted on flow. Or do u guys think that it won't effect it.
You won't need a third cooler if you already running our dual system as they are brilliant and work very well. You also still have the original cooling system working for you as well.
By far our best dealer is Recurve in North Lakes. www.google.com/maps/place/Recurve/@-27.2331769,153.0085269,13z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x6b93fba9391ab7a5:0xda65ef0b6575e774!8m2!3d-27.2199031!4d152.9986619!16s%2Fg%2F11p16c4h3w?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTExMy4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
Just watched clip exellent content as always, just one question I have a 2010 V6 Hilux and I have fitted a single cooler a couple of years back and I also had a second cooler I won’t to fit now. Would the positioning of the in let and out let matter, I was thinking of joining them at the bottom’s so that they are always full of oil or joining them at the tops so that they drain when the motor is off which scenario would be best
Question. Installed your dual cooler on 2016 bt50 6r80. Temps btw 50-70, tick Only question, why do you like them installed in front of intercooler on the outlet side of the intercooler?? Air passes thru hot oil cooler then that hotter air is hitting the intercooler and radiator. Would the better place be lower in front area??
We now mount our Ford Ranger cooler behind the intercooler well out of the way from any bull bar, winch and larger intercoolers. Works brilliant perfectly.
Great video. I have a 150 Prado 2.8 GD 6 speed. Does the cooler kit work in combo with the existing water cooler in the rad or is it bypassed completely? When 4 wheel driving, I often see torque converter temps in the 110-120 and occasionally in the 130 range. Trans temps are considerably less but still sounds like too much to me. I dont tow, just loaded up 4 wheel driving. Cheers
It works with the existing water cooler, we try not to bypass when possible. An extra cooler will make a huge difference in your case looking at those temps.
To some extent both but mostly torque convertor as this is by far the most reliable, gives instant data and is the most destructive. Pan temp tells you what was going on 4 minutes ago.
Check this link out for the ZD30 GU, We have a special starting on Monday! automatictransmission.com.au/select-your-vehicle/nissan/patrol/gu-3-0l-turbo-diesel-with-4-speed-auto-2/?make=Nissan&model=Patrol&series=GU%203.0L%20Turbo%20Diesel%20with%204%20Speed%20Auto
I have a PX2 ranger that runs about 98 degrees at normally driving without towing. Last trip was a dead flat road on a 30 degree day. Coolant temp was 102 degrees and the transmission temp got to 112 degrees towing. Is this common.
If this is while towing then yes, but a little higher than normal when not towing. In any case cooler, bypass valve and deep cast pan will get this sorted completely. Get that poor guy Jeremy an electric screwdriver! it’s killing me just watching him with that pissy little screwdriver😂 free, meat platter, my way for upping your production time. I’ll settle for 25% discount on a oil cooler TB48
No, not at all Dino and we test the flow rates during the testing stage of development. The new Next Gens run at 6 litres per minute which is quite high in comparison to most others and when we do a deliberate restriction test, they still run at 6 litres per minute. We don’t continue to restrict but we still do all the tests so we fully understand.
thanks for posting, very interesting. we tow with a prado in s4, using a scan gauge, the auto temp doesn't change much from the water temp. do you still recommend a transmission cooler?
I have a 2019 px3 10 speed wildtrak, does this require a bypass valve when installing the cooler? Is there one available? What effect will there be on my warranty with Ford if this is installed before the end of warranty? Do I need to change out the oil at the same time as install?
We fully understand your concern but are yet to have ever seen a single case. They can't void your warranty as it's against consumer law, however if a problem is the direct result of our product, then I can't blame them for handballing you back to us and we are fully insured for such an occurrence. Luckily, after thousands of sales no problems so far. We have even had dealers call and order kits to help them with their customers requirements. As for the bypass we are investigating next month as we are in the middle of building a Nomad Valve Body upgrade for the NextGen range that will also pass back to the previous model 2L PX. Don't let the valve body development stop you from installing the cooler kit as they are a must have item and we have free freight sale engine this Saturday night.
Yes they do have a cooler from factory but a lot of customers have had unexpected overheating issues and fitted our Dual cooler system. Here is a web link: automatictransmission.com.au/shop/dual-heavy-duty-transmission-oil-cooler-kit-to-suit-toyota-landcruiser-300-series-with-10-speed-auto/
Enjoyed all the information in your video . Do you do a cooler for the NX 2016 Pajero. I noticed at 90000km when I drained the auto it was very dark in colour. Decided to do a full system flush ended up using 20 litres. I will now drop the oil on a regular basis. I don't tow a caravan at all just a regular 6×4 trailer to the tip now and again. I have a device that i can read transmission temperature on my phone. I live in the hills and noticed it reads around 90 C max at the top, naturally this may change a bit depending on ambient temperature. There's a air to air cooler fitted from factory and presume made to the Australian conditions however fitting a extra one would be of some benefit iam sure.
Not as yet but we are going to be doing them later this year. We are looking for Pajero’s to do the development work, owner gets to keep the fitted cooler for free.
Great video, I have a next gen ranger raptor and have just had it serviced where they updated the transmission module, it definitely feels better shifting but I have noticed it now runs hotter. Previously it ran at 85-90 now runs 90-100. Any ideas on why this might be?
The only thing I can think of is that they have changed the lock-up strategies, I wish I knew more but there really isn't anything else that can do this. Just be sure that the temps have defiantly changed.
I have fitted an oil cooler to my MR Triton... At the time I did not have a scanner or anything to tell me the temperatures but I do now and I do like how when the TCC locks the TC temp and sump temp equalize almost immediately, I do have one question though, Would a fan be of any benefit in stop/go or even sand?
Yes, they are DIY with brilliant fitting instructions. Fits all bull bar/winch combinations and they are on special at the moment Terry. Here is the web link and fitting instructions: automatictransmission.com.au/shop/twin-heavy-duty-transmission-oil-cooler-kit-to-suit-ford-ranger-px-6r80-6-speed-auto/

I have a 2020 ranger super cab. As a tradie am in it everyday and have just clicked over 85,000kms. Up until recently I had no idea about temperature in the auto. I fitted an ultra gauge to monitor temperature and After a recent trip towing a 19ft van had coolant temps of over 110’ and trans temps of around 114’. I had a faulty thermostat replaced in the coolant system And fitted one of your trans cooler Kits. My next trip temps in the trans didn’t get above 90’ and the coolant the max was around 100’ towing from Vic to Queensland. Definitely well Worth the money. My question though is what is an estimated cost Of a trans service and what is involved? The his is due to the fluid in the trans being black when the cooler was fitted. Any help Will be appreciated
Full flush transmission service using full synthetic oil is $495 inc gst Aaron. Replacing 100% of the oil, new pan gasket and oil filter. So it's a pan off job. However, for an extra $200 you can have the thermal bypass valve installed and that will make a huge difference again, dropping another 20c off what you have now.
@@WholesaleAutomatics thank you very much for the response. As it’s under warranty still I had asked the dealer for a price and was quoted approximately $700. But also wasn’t exactly sure what there price included.
I have a 2019 tundra factory no cooler runs at 215 degrees fahrenheit to 218 towing or regular driving. Toyota deleted the trans cooler in 2019 and has what they call a warmer they have water lines from the radiator to the transmission that coil in this round cover and transmission fluid runs thru that and warms it from the engine and keeps it at engine temps for the most part, should ni still get a cooler?
Yes you should and you while we do have a Tundra oil kit you will also need a one part of the side of the auto that allows you to run both the oil warmer/cooler and our large oil cooler kit. automatictransmission.com.au/select-your-vehicle/toyota/tundra/5-7l-v8-petrol-with-6-speed-auto/?make=Toyota&model=Tundra&series=5.7L%20V8%20Petrol%20with%206%20Speed%20Auto
I need one for the 8F35 8-Speed, 2021 Ford Transit Connect. Maybe not sold in Australia. Eveif I got one, not sure where to connect it to get the best results and avoid the factory "bypass". Also how much ULV transmission fluid do I add? because the system has a very specific, temperature dependent, oil change proceedure.
For a 5-year-old Ford in Thailand running around with no trailer add a good outside temperature of 45° I would need a a auto cooler please confirm as I miss you on the four-wheel drive shows immensely
No not really. Cooler, thermal valve bypass and deep cast pan makes the most difference depending on what model vehicle you have. We have a special on all these items at the moment.
I have a bt50 mine sits at 100 on highway Max 102. Oil doesn't start cooking till 120? That's what I got told. Going in town sits about 97. I don't tow but I am thinking it could be heaps lower. Other thing I'm new to this but using water with oil what's the chance that something could go wrong n they mix together?is there a warranty with the product?
If your vehicle has a 145k on it is it still advisable to put a transmission cooler on it.? The transmission has been serviced twice and tows a caravan once a year. Do think the seals be to hard now?
Hi, I'm about to fit one to my car, just a question as to do I fit it before the radiator cooler, after it or bypass the radiator one altogether. Seen a few videos and forums, and get different advice as to which way to do it.
Nice to see homegrown operations doing well. Wish you well, and greetings from FL, US! 😇
Thanks!
Thanks David! means a lot to have other mechanical workshops giving positive feedback on our products and excited you are one of them.
Which shop is that david
Thanks a lot.
After a gearbox failure in my Forester Sport 2021 i installed oil cooler with derale fluid control thermostat. shuold i drop it?
Thanks for addressing the 'how cool is too cold' topic.
I've fitted a trans cooler to my 150 Prado 3.0L, which was commonly running temps of 105 to 107 up hills, just heavily loaded (i.e.not towing). Now I've dropped at least 20 degrees off the top end, but for locked up highway driving the temps were sitting much lower than before at around 55 degrees. I was worried 55 was 'too cold' but seems there's nothing to worry about, so thanks for going into that. Cheers - David
Are the temperatures engine coolant temp.
Do you find the shifts have now become crisper/harsher during the colder months?
I had the Ranger Ultimate bundle deal installed on my 2020 Ranger a month ago. ScanGauge 2 was regularly reading ATF temp around 102 to 105 degrees. Now with the twin heavy duty cooler, bypass value and deep cast sump the temp is down around 70 to 73 degrees.
Great to hear Murray
I've got my 'Ranger Bob' booked for late June to get the same kit. Nice to hear another success story.
As a mechanic been working for 18 year in the field, it’s one of the best upgrades you can do for any car .
Thanks
Brought one of yours recently because I like to support Aussie manufacturing.
Very impressive inventory and stock organising. I don't have a auto in 75 series but I love the videos. 😊😊😊
Hmmm. Orings going hard. Something I hadn't thought about. Another interesting video. Thanks.
Best up grade on my BT50 dropped my transmission temp by 25 degrees running up steep hills a must for all auto's CHEERS Rocket🍺🍺
PX2 Ranger ultimate kit installed, so so pleased I have done so early in the vehicles life pre 55k. Only wish there was a lock up kit for the PX2.
We are on the lock-up kit now and will have it completed in a couple of months Brian.
I had issues with my 6 speed ranger sticking in 3rd gear when towing. I had to manually shift gear. Since having a cooler fitted, it seems to have rectified this problem .I will be fitting the valve body upgrade after watching your videos.
Yes, the Nomad valve bodies are brilliant and will double your cooling capacity again.
At least the fluid has been changed a bunch over its lifetime, but i recently added a big oil cooler
What a change ,maybe its a placebo but it seems to shift nicer and is more responsive.
Dave
No not at all Dave, The coolers make a massive difference by themself, and the engine fan is still pulling air over the coolers in any case.
I fitted one to my
LDV T60 it made great difference and no more overheating
I would recommend this product
great vid Rocket ,I had one installed up here in QLD two weeks ago on my 4lt V6 auto Hilux best move I've done for towing our camper trailer around Australia transmission is cool as now , thanks again for your help with solving and stopping a problem somewhere up the long winding road ahead
Great vid 👍🏼
I installed a cooler on my 150 Prado 7 years ago. Temps on highway around 65c and around town 75c
👍🏼👍🏼
Rod you need to buy Jeremy a drill driver, he does a great job. I installed a cooler about 2 Months ago in my MR Triton best move ever Keep up the good work. Ps Get back on the tracks we miss you out there.
I tow and go offroad and it has helped out with my temps.
lol, he has one but we took it away from him while we were filming hahaha
Here is the web link:
automatictransmission.com.au/shop/thermal-cooler-bypass-valve-with-install-kit-to-suit-ranger-and-bt-50-6-speed-autos/
One of the best things I ever did for my BT50
Hi Shane, do you have a bullbar and winch mounted on your car? Did you notice temp drop via a scangauage or the like?
had trans coolers in my cars over the years even got one fitted my 2013 Outback CVT as well
3 transmissions on my 2001 Dodge diesel truck burnt up before 2nd transmission shop found oil cooler was plugged up.
Very informative. Great video
💯 i have a 2019 dmax i tow my racecar trailer i fitted a wholesale cooler best thing i done temp is down heaps and oil is clean as
I fitted 2 tranny coolers to my 120 series prado, only change the oil in the tranny ever 150,000ks still pink & no burnt smell. I also put one on my power steering pump at the same time. Car has done over600,00ks & never had the pan off the tranny. Bob Blyde
Very informative video knacka bag's. I think I'll get one for my y62.
Yes we do recommend leaving the radiator connected in every case where it is possible to do so.
Thanks Rocket @@WholesaleAutomatics
A right-handed person wearing his watch on his right... proof that things indeed do run backwards in Australia. :))
I had not noticed but I am going to ask him when I go into wok tomorrow lol.
When are we going to see the old 79 back on the road it will be good to see
coolant temp on nearly all modern vehicles around 90 degrees c so it's interesting to hear you recommend temps not go much over that, an engine coolant heat exchanger is going to have trans temp at 90c with no load and when the coolant temp cspikes to 100-120c (which is still fine if not boiling) on a hill so will the trans oil.
i would've said oil temps over 140c are starting to become an issue.
Thanks for the info, very helpful....
Well said Rocket 🚀
Excellent content mate, can you do a kit for a Ssangyong Musso please?
You totally rebuilt my son Frank Jr's PX2 Silver Ranger not that long ago.Any extended away trips in the pipeline?
great video... ... oil cooler 100% great info thankyou
Do we need a fan on the transmission cooler?
Where and why should we install the cooler?
Great video!
We have them on special at eh moment, here is the web link:

@@WholesaleAutomatics cheers. Just weighing up at the moment but will do some content for my UA-cam channel if purchase 👍
Loving the Vids guys.
2015 BT50 , I have booked mine in for the Ultimate Bundle to be installed in June.
Does it have a water cooled standard cooler in it already and if it does, will that be bypassed or maintained?
Yes the 3.2L BT50 does have a water cooled cooler but we remove it so we can install the much larger Twin cooler system.
A great video. Thank you. Do I need to check with the manufacturer as to whether such a cooler will affect the warranty. Do you have a recommended installer in Canberra? Thanks
Contact Richard from Hume Offroad in Canberra.
With the 79 conversion do you run the standard 200 series cooler? or is it a bigger improved version. Even on the earlier conversion kits from say 2015 onwards.
We use the larger HDJ100 cooler. We also option larger deep cast aluminium pan and a second pre cooler if required.
I have a Dmax 2019. Can I run a dual core cooler from you, and bypass the OEM cooler altogether.
Yes you can but no need to bypass the OEM cooler, they are fairly reliable.
Thanks for the info
Any time!
Buy that man an electric screwdriver.
I have a Ranger and I am on the Sunshine Coast, QLD. Who do you recommend to install your products up here? Thanks for the video. Very informative

Put the second cooler behind the first, run hot oil to the rear cooler first then into the front cooler. This would be the most efficient way.
Can you post a video about CVT transmission?
Question.
Installed your dual cooler on 2016 bt50 6r80. Temps btw 50-70, tick
Only question, why do you like them installed in front of intercooler on the outlet side of the intercooler??
I deal with the old 7 tonne Mitsubishi forklifts. They are under cooled the transmission seals go rock hard and leak.
Great video, however I do have a question. When you talked about temperature, where you refering to transmission, or the torque converter.?
To some extent both but mostly torque convertor as this is by far the most reliable, gives instant data and is the most destructive. Pan temp tells you what was going on 4 minutes ago.
Can I delete my radiator cooler add an external cooler on my 80 series 1fz-fe auto?
While you can, you don't need to and the radiator does add an extra layer of cooling.
Great information, I have a Nisan Patrol 3lt 2013 auto, do you make a cooler for it also do you make a lock up for this model.
Regards Barry W

I have a PX2 ranger that runs about 98 degrees at normally driving without towing. Last trip was a dead flat road on a 30 degree day. Coolant temp was 102 degrees and the transmission temp got to 112 degrees towing. Is this common.
If this is while towing then yes, but a little higher than normal when not towing. In any case cooler, bypass valve and deep cast pan will get this sorted completely. Check out this web link:

@@WholesaleAutomatics 😂😂
Hi , with he extra hose lengths and possible restrictions through the cooler does it affect the trans oil pressure in anyway. Cheers
Is there a jb74 jimny oil cooler kit sir?
thanks for posting, very interesting. we tow with a prado in s4, using a scan gauge, the auto temp doesn't change much from the water temp. do you still recommend a transmission cooler?
Yes, very much so as the cooler is not only great insurance but also keeps your rubber seals nice and soft years longer.
Should be used by itself or in conjunction whit the stock radiator? Toyota prado fj120
Defiantly in conjunction with your radiator for the Prado 120 and 150
Awesome vid team. Are your kits DIY ?
Yes they come with step-by-step installation instructions
Rod does the LC300 GR have a standard transmission oil cooler? If so, does it need assistance for towing a 2.5ton van?
Yes they do have a cooler from factory but a lot of customers have had unexpected overheating issues and fitted our Dual cooler system. Here is a web link:

@@WholesaleAutomatics yeah okay, this has only happened recently so I will continue to monitor as it has a read out you can bring up on the dash
Always fit an oil cooler and run the Triton in low range in sand you you will be fine.
im in rural area. I have a 2016 pre dpf ranger. Are these a easy diy? Also have bullbar and winch.
Yes, they are DIY with brilliant fitting instructions. Fits all bull bar/winch combinations and they are on special at the moment Terry. Here is the web link and fitting instructions:

Dose fitting your cooler kit affect new car warranties

Another great video rocket Rod!! Do you have a distributor or fitter for your products in Sydney?
Sure do Kelvin. Call our sales team on 03 9762 8004 and they will point you in the right direction.
I seldom drive over 2000rpm and change the fluid every 40k. No issues for me with the auto in my 380.
With a cooler mounted with the outlets on the side, what way is the best way to run the in and out lines? In at the top and out at the bottom? Cheers
It doesn't matter as its a pressurized system so any air locks are very quickly cleared Nathan.
I had a faulty thermostat replaced in the coolant system
And fitted one of your trans cooler
Kits. My next trip temps in the trans didn’t get above 90’ and the coolant the max was around 100’ towing from Vic to Queensland. Definitely well
Worth the money. My question though is what is an estimated cost
Of a trans service and what is involved? The his is due to the fluid in the trans being black when the cooler was fitted. Any help
Will be appreciated

In the LC do you run the factory cooler alongside the aftermarket cooler or remove the factory one. Cheers
We run both the original and then our aftermarket coolers.
For a 5-year-old Ford in Thailand running around with no trailer add a good outside temperature of 45° I would need a a auto cooler please confirm as I miss you on the four-wheel drive shows immensely
Yes I would without any doubt in my mind. We do ship to Thailand and have a special on at the moment.
Does an external oil cooler electrical fan really make a difference and is it worth the extra expense?
No not really. Cooler, thermal valve bypass and deep cast pan makes the most difference depending on what model vehicle you have. We have a special on all these items at the moment.
I have a bt50 mine sits at 100 on highway Max 102. Oil doesn't start cooking till 120? That's what I got told. Going in town sits about 97. I don't tow but I am thinking it could be heaps lower. Other thing I'm new to this but using water with oil what's the chance that something could go wrong n they mix together?is there a warranty with the product?
Yes we have a two year unlimited Km warranty with all of our cooler kits.
If your vehicle has a 145k on it is it still advisable to put a transmission cooler on it.? The transmission has been serviced twice and tows a caravan once a year. Do think the seals be to hard now?
You will be good if you get it done now. What make and model do you have?
Hi, I'm about to fit one to my car, just a question as to do I fit it before the radiator cooler, after it or bypass the radiator one altogether. Seen a few videos and forums, and get different advice as to which way to do it.
After the radiator in all cases except the Ford Ranger/BT50 3.2L and Next Gen Diesel where we bypass.
