  • After my trans replacement, it looks like i need new cooling lines too. I decided to build my own instead of buying an expensive stock replacement setup. I used rubber transmission hose, and added my B&M external cooler while I was at it.

    nice work. i am doing similar but adding a remote cooler back above the rear axle with electric fans. I am removing the OEM clips/connectors and hardlines completely and installing AN fittings at the trans...
    Thanks for sharing your insight into the return/send lines and your process of completing this

      absolutely! thanks for watching. i would recommend adding a trans temp sensor too. i wish i had because i really have no idea how much this helped.

    Thanks for this video. I’m working on a JK with this transmission and can’t figure out if the return is the top or bottom. I now know it’s the top.

    Greetings, very informative video. However, are you still sure that the return is on the passenger side? Shop manual shows the upper line from transmission (return) going into the driver's side in the radiator (for 2004)

    I call it a win for repairs on a budget, it did take me several hours of work though. What do you think? Should I just have bought the pre-made lines?

      @@casimiroarriolajr8362 I do want to go back and replace these lines with aluminum or something. But far they've held up great! I just feel paranoid that they're going to break or wear through because they're rubber. That's the last thing I need! Thanks for watching!

    Not sure why you would put the cooler before the transmission? So at this point it gets cool then hits the radiator and gets hot and return into the transmission hot...so basically its the same as before you installed it. It should be ran stand alone or after the radiator.

      this is a long running argument. i looked into it before i put in the cooler. basically…. in a cold climate, the radiator cooler reservoir actually serves to warm up tue fluid so it’s not too cold coming into the trans. in a climate that never gets all that cold, there’s no real reason to do that. so you can get away with just the external cooler on its own. it is not the same as running without the external cooler the way i have it though. the stock radiator cooler is not capable of properly cooling on its own in warm enough conditions. the external cooler adds some more cooling capacity to the system. ideally i should have gotten an external cooler with its own fan. and i may do that at some point. but this has been working so far.

      @@SWBCrawler I agree with everything you're saying except. The cooler still should have been ran after the radiator not before.

    What model cooler did you use? Do you notice a difference in trans cooler tempature?

    • @SWBCrawler
      @SWBCrawler  5 років тому +1

      Christopher Daley I don’t have a temp gauge in there yet. It feels at least slightly cooler. The doghouse isn’t too hot to touch anymore, but it’s still pretty hot. I’ll look up my order and get you a link.

      I cant remember what I bought, but some quick googling tells me, 11/32. I bought most of my hose from Advance auto, they have rubber cooler line thats listed as the proper fitment for the TJ/LJ auto trans.
