    Thank you so much for this! I am a knitter at heart so crocheting is very confusing without all the tiny details people tend to not mention . Your video helped a ton. The pattern I was following said to single crochet, but hers looked like stockinette stitch! I followed it for a while before tearing it out and researching my theory. You’re a savior!

    Thank you so much for this! I watched a couple of tutorials on this stitch but never was able to do it, because I crochet really tight and no one mentioned that this stitch needs to be loose.

    Thank you, you explained everything so clearly.. I only like how the stitch looks in the round & not how in all videos I have seen that it is not as nice or the same when it is done with the flat crocheting.. so I tried something different & it works & looks exactly the same as when you do it in the continuous round .. you just have to finish off at the end of each row .. & start again at the beginning of the row ( a bit like when you change colours, you have loose ends on each side but they can be crocheted in when you do a border) that way you can use it for both ways when making a cardigan etc & the stitches are all exactly the same.

    • @rolohooks
      @rolohooks  9 місяців тому

      Yes!!!! It took me a minute to figure out that the stitches will "spiral" in whichever direction you're working if you don't finish and start a new round every time you work a new row. There's a tunisian crochet stitch that can be worked flat and looks just like knitting as well, but I haven't tried it out yet. I'm just glad you found the video helpful, though! Thanks for the comment!

    I love this! Can you show this stitch in the round for a raglan to show the increase in that way? And if you can do alternating waist coat to SC that looks like faux brioche that’d be amazing!

      Did that tutorial get posted somewhere? I am also interested in it. Thank you for teaching me think knit stitch. I have been crocheting over thirty years and have never used this stitch. I know how to knit but it takes way too long. And once I drop a stitch, oh lawd, it’s all over. Lol.

      It’s the Yarn Bee Scrub-Ology from Hobby Lobby. If you can’t (or don’t want to) get it directly from them, I’ve seen people re-selling it on Etsy! ;)

    This video was really helpful! I am making a cat eared beanie with this stitch and had to find how to decrease. Only thing is that there are very large holes forming when I did the decrease, any advice on how to fix that? Thanks! 💓

    • @rolohooks
      @rolohooks  2 роки тому

      Decreases are definitely trickier with the waistcoat stitch, and I haven't found a way to make them totally invisible. I find that I usually have to use more tension on the decreases, but since I don't have time to record a follow-up video, I'd suggest checking out With Alex's tutorial on waistcoat stitch decreasing! 🥰 Good luck, and thanks so much!

    I have a question for you. If I am crocheting a hat and I go through the increases in the round do I enter both increased stitches. Say I have one sc and 2sc into next stitch. I completed that pattern all around. Now I'm starting new row. I come up to my 2sc in one space do I sc into both SC separately. Or is the SC just once through the double legs because there will be four legs not two.

    • @rolohooks
      @rolohooks  Рік тому

      Yes, you would enter both stitches! The trick to the split stitch is to NOT crochet between the “v’s” but into the center of each stitch. I HATE counting stitches, but for the first couple of hats I made, it really helped. Increases and decreases still trip me up all the time 😅 just to clarify, sc into both SC separately.

    Will this work with double crochet? If doing Half double crochet can I join the chain, work the first round of half double crochet then start with the spit stitch in round 2?

    • @rolohooks
      @rolohooks  Рік тому +1

      You CAN split a double crochet stitch, but it's not going to look quite the same. You could still get some interesting effects, though!

    Any advice for someone trying to use this stitch to make beenie out of 550 cord? It doesn't have the stretch like yarn does so makes it very troublesome to work.

    • @rolohooks
      @rolohooks  3 роки тому

      I haven't done a lot of work with that kind of cord, but I'd say try experimenting with different hook sizes, and be sure to keep your tension extra loose when you're doing your stitches. Let me know what you figure out, and good luck with your project! 🥰🥰🥰

    This stitch is wonderful with chunky yarn and so relaxing to work with. Now doing this with sock yarn? What a nightmare. Cannot get past the first single crochet round 😭 I’ve tried about 20 times and I fell defeated. Any tips? 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    • @rolohooks
      @rolohooks  2 роки тому +1

      OOF, I have an incredibly hard time with sock yarn in general, so i feel your pain. A smaller hook might help (some of the metal hooks seem to have more pointed ends, which helps to get through that first row of SC's.) Other than that, I'd try loosening your tension as much as you possibly can. Good luck! 😭 And please let me know how it goes!

    I’m not clear on how crocheting the stitch flat looks different.

    • @rolohooks
      @rolohooks  2 роки тому

      Sorry, I should have clarified better in the video! When you crochet this stitch flat, the "v" shapes in the stitches are less defined, but it's still looks nice! Just not quite as clean as when you work it in the round.

      @rolohooks  2 роки тому +1

      Hey, sorry this video wasn't helpful for you! I know the stitch can be frustrating to learn at first. It definitely took me some time to get a feel for. I'd recommend doing this stitch in the round first, and then moving on to doing it flat. It's a lot easier to do in rounds. I'm trying to get better at filming and editing these videos, so your feedback really helps! Thanks!
