This is the strongest Selesnya poison build I've seen in early access. It's surprisingly good at threatening lethal with damage as well as poison counters. Something like this is still reasonable, but probably not optimal. A version that adds blue has been doing well in the last few months. The main combo being March + Rotpriest for a lot of Poison, something we've also explored in the Blue/Green combo build with Ivy. Best of One: mtga.untapped.gg/meta/archetypes/3095/bant-toxic?tab=decks Best of Three: mtga.untapped.gg/meta/archetypes/3095/bant-toxic?tab=decks&wincon=bo3
It’s different from Infect, so not as good with pump spells unless you have Rotpriest in play. There are a few cards that can increase Toxic damage by applying more instances of Toxic like Skrelv.
Indeed it does since ivy copies the spell you target your creature with, and then have to choose ivy as the other target. Simic poison with the amount of proliferate in blue seems very viable
The big problem with the poison strategy is that if you do it by attacking with creatures, you are likely to be very close to killing your opponent with damage anyway so why not just focus on that? It only makes sense if you do things like proliferate. You if you attack with 2 powered creature with toxic 1 you are killing the opponent equally quickly with damage and poison. If you are attacking with 1 powered creatures with toxic, so it actually makes sense to get a poison victory, then it's really easy for the opponent to block these. And then you have to spend extra cards to get past the blockers.
Do this deck in simic. There are 4 protection spells currently in standard (shore up, tamyo safekeeping, tyvar stand and slip out the back). So every time someone wants to remove it you protect it this giving opponent poision counter.
The issue is having reliable access to Rotpriest if the entire deck is built around it. Usually need 8 similar cards for a strategy like that to be consistent or have a ton of card selection. Time will tell if Simic becomes the dominant build, but it’s certainly impressive when it goes off.
