You know what would be cool? If Orange did something like this, like with the micro terror series. Like what if they did something like a 20-50 watt Micro Terror bass? That would be awesome!

    • @MrFedoss
      @MrFedoss 2 роки тому +1

Problem is that 20W is enough loud for guitars, but not for bass. 20-50W for bass is more like home practice-small gig size, with one 8-10 inch speaker. I've also had some questions about absence of such low output heads for bass, but now it's 100% understandable. ASAIR, the least output of solid-state bass heads is around 100W, which is good to use with 1x12 or 2x10 cab. Actually, I like the concept of Ampeg's Micro Stack - it seems kinda flexible.

just a little detail but a "graphic" EQ means it is a series of sliders that form a graph like pattern that represents the curve of the EQ. This IS a 3 band EQ but NOT a graphic EQ because it is knobs not sliders.

I am very happy with mine. I run it through all sorts of cabs and dead combo amps. No, it is NOT real powerful but for small venues like local bars and practice it does the job. As with any head amp I strongly urge users to only use quality speaker cable hooking up the cabinet. The compression switch is a big help getting the "muddiness" out of 5 string basses.

I think at that price point, it would be a great home practice bass (especially with the bluetooth) and possibly like a coffee house gigging amp. Anything bigger than that with a full drumkit thrown in, and it's just not going to be able to keep up.
The price point is an interesting thing. The best comparison would be the Rumble 40. So it's $190 vs $250. It's 10w more than the Rumble, but you then have to get a speaker cab for it and it still lacks the XLR out that the Rumble 40 has. I think if this had an XLR out, it would be a home run of a small amp to carry with you to hook into the PA system at a gig and use.
My standard pedalboard has XLR out from my pre-amp, so I could absolutely see an option to use this purely to push an on stage monitor while running your main sound to front of house. So all in all, it's not a must have product, but I could definitely make arguments for where it would be useful.

So I bought 4 of these Bantamps for rehearsals with in-ears. I bought each player 3 guitarists and a bass player the Bantamp that was closest to their gig amp. I bought the, Bass amp, Zombie 2, JAckMan 2 and the Meteor 2. I pay a Dual Rec (Zombie), the other 2 guitarists play a Orange rockerverb (Meteor) and a Marshall DSL (Jackman). I basically put this with a cheap Sonicake pedal called the Sonic IR and took a Impulse of each players gig cabinet. Its so close that when we go to shows we put the Joyo heads and IR pedals in a duffle bag and take them as backups which we have had to use a couple times. When we have had to use the Joyo amps we just go right into the PA from the IR pedal but each player gets to keep their pedal rig. For $150-175 + $19 for the Sonicake pedal per person its a no brainer to have these for rehearsals even if you never plan to gig with them.

These are cool little amps and handy to have around for practicing. But when you consider the fact that these sell for roughly 155 bucks, use an external power supply, with no DI out.
If you're looking for something small and compact, go for the Warwick gnome which is 100 watts and actually has the power supply built into the head so all you have is your IEC power cord. Also you get a true balanced DI out and sells for only $50 more. You'd probably be better off going for that.
Unlike the Joyo, that little gnome with a hundred Watts of power through a decent speaker cabinet is enough to get you where you could gig with it if needed.

I think you were a lot more charitable on this thing than I was lol. I still think it's in an awkward spot. Having bluetooth is awesome, but everything else it does is done better or cheaper by other amps. There are cheaper more portable options for practice like the Zoom B14, the 4ohm cab thing makes it really underpowered for most gigs, and the lack of DI is a hassle for sound engineers. I just don't know who this amp is for. For the 6 months or so that I've had it, I haven't even plugged into it, and I have it set up ready to go all the time. It's just never my first pick for practice when I have my computer and an audio interface.

That little amp looks like you could keep it on your pedal board. In fact having a rig like that with just the speaker cable going to the cabinet(s) and having such ready access to the tone controls while being able to adjust your effects at the same time would make this a pretty cool gigging amp if only it had a DI onboard for front of house. You could always add in something like a H&K Redbox to add that function but that puts the price up another £100 and is another device to rig up, I feel that there will be competitors that include such a function in the basic amp.

The don't use 8Ω as the 'preferred' speaker impedance because they would then need a more powerful amp to be able to claim 50 watts (which would also need a higher voltage PSU). It's simple physics, to get more watts into an 8Ω cab you need more volts out of the speaker output but the PSU limits the peak to peak voltage of the output (this is a massive oversimplification but it'll do in this context).

I have one of these in the guitar series and it's pretty good and you can't get anything better for the money. Lack of DI here is probably not an issue as this will never be more than a practice amp at home. It should be great for that. The lack of DI out and the power transformer is the reason they can make it in such a small box. Don't have a problem with that transformer on my guitar amp. But would you buy a basshead for home practice? Do people have small cabinets lying around at home? Probably not. I use a TC Electronic combo for my home use and it's not big and a bags a lot more power than this this one. I probably paid twice the money for that combo, but buying this I would also need to buy a cabinet, because as you've said not many people have 4 ohm cabinets. You can tell it's a fine amp, but the guitar series make more sense.

    • @EversonBernardes

This one would make sense... if it had an XLR out. 50w is plenty if you're going straight into a mixer, and that's what most bass players been doing for a while.

I think the amp-DI's sucking thing is exaggerated or something from the olden days, these opinions and habits could also be very regional of course. And I haven't played thát many gigs. But I can imagine people thinking.... it's not a miss, we'll just use a DI we already have.

Hi really nice video review; thank you! I love the sound of that Dingwall and am wondering about the strings… are those flat wound, chrome, stock, other? And if you have any recommendations on what might compare to that tone on a shorter scale would be appreciated. Ie- I read a bit about that bass after hearing this and understand they make custom strings for their longer scales; possibly that is the velvety goodness I’m hearing more so than the strings-what do you think?

What is a good 4 ohm amp cabinet to use with that thing?

I don't think I've ever played through a bass head that isn't 4 ohm at full wattage with half at 8 ohm... Surely that's the point, so you can run 2 cabs at full wattage at 8ohm? Enjoyed the demo non the less, just didn't think that was a fair criticism

How much of a concern is the clipping? Seems the instant the compression is turned on that little butt-puckering warning light starts going crazy. How sustainable is that long term?

Sucks that they didn’t add a DI output

Patrick, call me crazy, but I think you may have a mild obsession with drum intros with crashy open hi-hats. I could be projecting though...

It could be a good studio solution if it had a di, but at this point just buy a trace Elliott elf

This is just an aesthetics moan so not that important, but why make it a garish green! Most other lunchbox amps I can think of look kinda classy, something you wouldn't mind sitting on your desk all the time, but this just looks like a fisher-price toy amp. I get it's cheap so won't have the best knobs etc, but don't make them neon as well! They must have had a ton of spare green plastic laying around.

Have you seen all their other amps? They all have colors and I think this green is great...

you could run the output through a DI box. Should work just as well without affecting the sound too much

I think this is designed for a non-professional bass player... like targeted for casual home use.
Unfortunately most of the bassists in the world are professionals, so its target audience is really limited, doesn't matter how good it sounds or how well it's made!!
