It's crazy to me that multiple QB's including one's with a resume like Kurt's say this about purdy yet arm chair GM's and Analysts who have never played the sport let alone QB insist their take is accurate
All other were just haters.
As a 49er fan that's even been my stance. I'm aware that we'll lose talent in a couple years when we pay Purdy. And with the numbers he's putting up we HAVE to pay him 😂. Anything less than 40 mil would be an insult.

The reason Purdy doesn’t have to scramble as much as Allen or Mahomes or Jackson is, he’s already gone through his reads and thrown the ball accurately on time.
We’ve seen that he can run, he ran in for a touchdown against the Bucs in his first start. He had a long scramble for a first down in the first game of the season against Pittsburgh. He had three runs in the NFC Championship game. But most of the time he stays in the pocket and finds his receivers.
If I was a WR, I’d much rather play with Brock than some of these other guys. At least you know you have a fair chance you will get the ball.
Purdy also has a worse oline than Mahomes, Jackson and Allen. No one talks about that nor do they talk about the fact that he’s only a been playing for 1 1/2 years. It’s so annoying. lol
@@Jaquay10 their line is ranked 15th....WITH Big Trent. Without Trent, its probably ranked 25th-ish. It's down right horrible.
@@DurzoBlint14Their run game blocking is decent(and above average on the left side especially with Kyle Juscyk as full back helping out with Trent on that side). However their Pass protection is something like 23-26th in the league (depending on what metric you are using) where the right side is especially prone to collapsing against the pass rush. It’s the run blocking that puts the overall blocking at 15th but their pass blocking is utter trash. Purdy is actually quite elusive and gets the ball out faster than most quarterbacks in the league that allows him to play under the such a line.

The bizarre thing about Purdy is he had no offseason due to his injury. His arm wasn't right till weeks into the season and he has improved from last season, so he has never had an offseason with the starters to practice with. There is also tape on him and he still is having great success.
As a Cardinals fan, it will suck to face them twice a year, but he really is a special talent. His line is not very good at pass protection besides Williams and he takes shots down the field when he could settle. Kurt did a good video breaking down his tape recently debunking the myth that he is a check-down machine and it just seems people want him to fail because he started getting more praise than they liked.
I do believe it is fair to compare him to other great quarterbacks early in their careers because his numbers and win-loss column support that a lot of scouts were wrong about him and he very well could be a top 5 quarterback in the league. Joe Burrow and Patrick had loaded offensive teams and never got knocked for it. The Chiefs were great before Mahomes with just Alex Smith and the Bengals loaded up on young, excellent offensive talent to propel them into the Super Bowl. No "game-managing" quarterback can do what he does and it is a knock to label him as such because he elevates that talented team to a true contender.

Issue with what Dan O is saying is that Brock, in a NFC conference game put the team in his back when his defense let the other team score 30+. That said, how many times did other QBs do that this year? Its a team sport, they just keep making scenarios up to move goalpost for Brock. Its getting ridiculous at this point
So true because chiefs have amazing record when chiefs defense hold opposing offense to 20 or less. 49ers defense allowed 30 points and still won.
Dan talks a lot but how far did he go? I don't remember his name in the playoffs or ever a SB. I like him but over analyzing and creating split hair opinions that are not provable at all are total bullsh*t to keep his ESPN bosses happy.
Yea like when Jimmy got there with this team the defense wasn't allowing anyone to score over 20. The defense gave up 20+ a LOT this year. Purdy has had to lead the offense to more points to get these wins

SF has had one of the worst pass blocking offensive lines this entire season.
And for the last two months they have had a bad defense.

Purdy is pretty quick my favorite thing about Brock is his quick ability to scramble and escape the pocket
Maybe a bad comparison but I'll try. It takes me 10 minutes to explain to my boss where the root cause of a software bug is ... but it took me a full week of work to "find it" - lots of narrowing, isolating, doc review, processing involved.
Many of the coach potatoes find it easy to work backward - oh Brock made that throw, I can do it too. But they don't know the pre snap read, the timing, the footwork, the elimination of a side of the field, the holes in the Defense. They look at the result and think they can duplicate it, but ignore all the work that leads up to that moment. And I dare to say, many QBs can "make a throw," but the decision to arrive to that throw I think, is what separate the mentally sharp, elite QBs from the mid-tiers ones. Hence, Brock is already in elite company because he can process those information in a extremely high, and pressurized situation.
Very well articulated sir that's why I find it ludicrous when people say that you could put other quarterbacks like Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes in San Francisco offense, and they would be even better. Every QB mental processing is not the same pre and post Snap.
Not a bad comparison and I totally agree. As JT O'Sullivan of QB School has pointed out, it's easy to make comments with a marker and a rewind button after the game has been played. But QBs have to process the field and make decisions in seconds with pressure breathing down their necks. Add to that how defenses like to switch to different coverages post snap

The Brock hate is just lazy. Feels like people are just upset he's out there being successful this early and he's a fluke.
I hope he wins and plays spectacularly, just to hear the excuses people will come up with

I disagree. Every player has doubters and always will and there is no reason that 100% of fans should all need to have the same opinion on any 1 guy. People saying he's Josh Rosen in a good system are dumb and so are the people saying his story is like Brady or Montana's. Just like people saying Lamar is garbage are dumb but also have a point that he's looked lost in the postseason.
My opinion of Brock is this: Looks great, really efficient, extends plays at times, but also has looked lost when a weapon or 2 go down.
The thing for me is that Brock is the smallest contract in the league(.36% of the cap) and has the best supporting cast of any roster in at least 5 years. SF also, with this amazing skill player group, threw the ball the least in the NFL. I get it, it's because they have a great RB and scheme but that will still be held against him. He was dropped into a LOADED roster that they perfected while Garoppolo was there.
Who, by the way, took over a 1-10 team(won all 5 remaining games with 0 time to learn the playbook while throwing to Goodwin+Garcon) and was then given a hefty contract, making it tougher to build a team around him. And was constantly hurt and still made 2 NFCCGs. Purdy is probably the better QB long term but until he gets a 2nd contract and his cap hit rises to 10-14%, there will be a LOT of doubters. I mean, people were still refusing to call Brady the goat until he got his 5th or 6th ring and a 28-3 super bowl comeback with 15 years as a starter and a bunch of previous hardware lol.
But the media people saying he's horrible are absolutely stupid.
@@173jaSon371 I don't think Purdy will take a contract that big. Ourely speculation, but I think he's smart and not greedy. More Brady than Lamar in their mindset. Eating that much cap is Super Bowl Suicide. My guess, is he eats up 10% or less, $25-$28 million per year. I think he'll want to make sure the team canafford Deebo, Bosa, Aiyuk, Kittle, etc.

We live in a society where everyone HAS to know how to rank/categorize players and compare them. I choose to watch Sunday’s game already happy for Brock and hopeful he helps the team win. He is a good dude, and has already exceeded expectations. I can’t be mad no matter who wins.

The problem with Dans argument is that there is only 1 QB in the league that can play well when the talent around him isnt great, and thats Mahommes. You would have to remove Josh Allen and Lamar from your elite talks because they cant carry teams to super bowls wins regardless of situation

Mahomes gun slinging has been dialed back latter part of the season to where he is more a game manager and chiefs have been successful. Brock has been more the gunslinger this year than mahomes, but since niners a run first team Brock doesn't have a lot of attempts.
And even mahomes put up less than stellar numbers this year because talent around him is significantly worse from tyreke hill to Toney

its so weird to here people bring up Mahomes like he is more athletic thatn Purdy. His arm is but nothing else. Purdy is a better runner and is faster in short areas. Purdy is hardly just a pocket passer, He can make plays on the run and gash you with his legs. It's weird that people think hes not athletic. He has the same 10 yd split as CMC. His 40 time isn't great, but how many times do you need a qb to run 40 yds in a line?
They act like Pat is a runner because he does his little toe tap dance till the last moment with defenders afraid of hitting him or it happens like against GB. You don't see Mahomes going about speedy long runs like Brock did 2 times in a row, even his combine times say Brcok is way more faster in certain aspects as his 10 yard split is equal to Lamar lmao. Mahomes is seen as runner, because he scrambles and is black.

Kurt, you are on the money as always. Only thing I'd say as to why they cant let him write his own narrative now is because more than ever before, sports journalism has turned into TMZ Sports. Its not about good takes, its about creating narratives (accurate or otherwise) that generate as much clicking and eyeballs as humanly possible.
