This is a small detail, but it always makes me cry- the narration by Hiccup at the end ('There were dragons when I was a boy...') is actually a word-for-word copy of the opening lines of the book series that the movies are based off, where a much older Hiccup has written down the adventures he got up to as a young boy, when dragons were still around. Its a really nice reference and it always makes me sentimental.

Hard to notice fact: @ 19:56
When Astrid brings up, "You've tried this once before, he didn't want it" as Hiccup is building a new self controlled tailfin for Toothless, it's actually a reference. Back in 2011, a Holiday short was released on DVD called *Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury* where for Berk's version of Christmas called Snoggletog, all dragons fly away leaving a flightless Toothless alone. And so Hiccup creates a new tailfin for Toothless so he could fly away on his own. And for the final day of the holiday, Toothless begged Hiccup for his old tailfin so they could fly together, and destroyed his self controlled tailfin. Just a fun fact not everyone will catch. ☺️🫶🏻

I'm pretty sure it's only a head-canon, but I've seen the idea that Toothless also gets a speed boost when doing that. This would be similar to the Skrill's canon "Riding Lightning" ability seen in Dragons: Race to the Edge, season 2 episode 11. So not teleportation, just traveling much faster than he can in normal flight. Even if it not canon, it's a fun idea.

First we get Drago who lost a limb and decided to train dragons with fear, power, and control, while Hiccup, who also lost a limb, trained dragons with love, compassion, and understanding. Then we get Grimmel, who did the exact opposite to Hiccup and killed a Night Fury when he was young, and went on to slaughter every single Night Fury. So to explain why Toothless only does it with electricity, remember the original descriptor for Nightfuries? It read "The unholy offspring of *lighting* and *death* itself." it's very cleverly implied that Nightfuries have a connection with lightning this is also because they are semi-related to Skrills who are entirely powered up by lightning and can even shoot breaths of lightning as well. If I were you guys I'd watch the HTTYD cartoon series because it introduces more dragons and really shows how Hiccup grows up to be a great leader.

This trilogy is definitely going down as a classic. The fact that everyone is already saying that now is just a tell. It honestly sets a standard for future animation that I think no other studio is even capable in following suit of. Every property of this franchise through to the last Christmas special has top notch quality control, like they actually cared about the content of this franchise and the story it tells rather than purely how much money it would make. They actually accepted the principle of “If the quality is there the money will come”, and it worked perfectly. Every show and special is also an absolute treasure trove of character world building content that makes the world feel more full and rich, as well as the characters. A once in a lifetime franchise no doubt.

39:35... It is interesting you bring up villains because the 2nd and 3rd movies had one main villain (with secondary ones), but the villain in the first movie was everyone but Hiccup. Even Toothless was the villain. But after each act, the villains became allies. Toothless and Hiccup bonded, Astrid and Hiccup bonded, his friends went along with it, and then finally Hiccup and his father bonded. By the end of the 1st movie and the start of the 2nd one, all of the villains were external to his clan.

You did not disappoint with this series! I am so glad you loved HTTYD as much as I, and many others, do! I hated seeing it end all over again! 😊 I couldn't ask for more than straight "5's" across the board for the series.❤️
HTTYD: Homecoming is the final short movie (around 30 minutes) that came out. It takes place after Hiccup and Astrid's marriage, but before the family goes to the Hidden World to visit Toothless. It's worth a watch, even if you don't watch any of the other HTTYD content...and there is a lot.😊
"Rise of the Guardians," "Brave" and "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" are all awesome animated movies to think about watching, too.

Brings tears to my eyes

A Little Fact: The little glowing dragons flying beside Astrid and Hiccup when they entered the hidden World weren't Babies. They are called "Fireworms” and are the smallest kind of dragons. They only become 25-30 centimeters tall. The only exception, is the Queen. She is the leader and the mother of the fireworms and is a lot taller, around 11 meters/36 feet. They prefer living in caves, in a beehive like system, and they defend themselves through heat their bodies to extremely high temperatures so that no one can approach them. The Queen also can inject a deadly venom through her tongue and has a high level of intelligence. They are also one of the few dragon species that also glow outside the hidden world. The closer they are to a conspecific, the brighter they shine.

They fill the gap in between HTTYD 1 and 2 with Riders/Defenders taking place shortly after 1 and RTTE a year before 2. I would say just go straight to RTTE cause that's the really good stuff, but there are characters and backstories that you need to know from Riders/Defenders.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun, but it has a surprising amount of depth, and tackles some serious emotional issues, like loss, death, feeling like an outsider, not living up to your parent's expectations, self-belief, etc....The animation is amazing, and the music and sound design compliments everything and makes the overall experience. Seeing this in 3D in the cinema was such a treat, the flying scenes were just breathtaking.

21:35 cool and awesome call back from the first movie when hiccup is reading the night fury description from the book "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself". Awesome movie glad you guys enjoyed it, and grimmel is the best villain for me because he fights using his intelligence as his main strength unlike drago. Grimmel was able to kill a sleeping night fury, it means he was stealthy enough to not wake a freaking dragon up, and he manage to study the night fury behavior like how they can't survive the cold, and can't fly long distances. Awesome villain and awesome trilogy, and also when astrid and hiccup enters the hidden world and you guys mention the glowing little dragons and called it baby dragons, well those are just small dragons called the fire worms, a type of dragon than is burning 24/7 and the fire worm queen can even reach temperature close to the sun. If you guys plans to react to the series you'll see new dragons their and it's also fun.

‼A BIG FYI: I don't know if you guys know this, but they are filming a live-action version of this right at this moment in Belfast, Ireland. The young actor Mason Thames, who played Finney in The Black Phone is playing Hiccup and Nico Parker from The Last Of Us is playing Astrid, Gerald Butler will be reprising his role as the father Stoic and Nick Frost is going to play Gobber. Dean Deblois, who directed the animated trilogy, is also directing this live-action version so it's nice knowing he will make sure it will be done right because he has said in interviews that the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy is a work of love and are his babies. I'm kind of nervous because I want it to be worthy of the originals but I'm also excited because Dean will be directing and Mason and Nico are very talented young actors who I think fit their roles and I'm happy Gerald is returning as Stoic. I'm going to keep an open mind and hope this will be a beautiful addition to the originals and another great movie we can add to the franchise.🤞

You guys must know by now that there are 10 seasons of TV shows that go between the first and second movies. These are very good as well and shows the group growing up together building Hiccups leadership skills. The dynamic of Astrid’s character in relation to Hiccups is such a positive role for women and the bond a man and woman should have. She is such a strong role model for this. I also love that I forget Hiccup has a leg missing. There is no such thing as a “handicap” here. Also, especially for kids to learn, Hiccup will use violence as a last resort. A lot of other shows are anger and violence first. There is so much to glean off of this series. So good.

21:52 so the new power. We see Toothless gradually becoming stronger from the first movie. Night Furies are already feared in that world and their actual powers are unknown. So both Hiccup and Toothless slowly figure out what Toothless's powers are. Like in the second when he becomes blue (the colour on his fins) and challenges the alpha. He is literally the commander of the dragons, like Hiccup is the chief of Berk. So in the third movie, when we see Light Fury display a new power (making itself invisible) we already get the hint that Toothless can do it too. His source of power comes from lightning.
