Luckily y'all don't have to wait 13yrs for 3 since Cameron wrote 2, 3, 4, and 5 together while developing tech to film 2 and part of 3! He's already finished filming 3 to come out end of next year with each subsequent sequel every other year after
Noticed you mentioned western expansion and this is an adaptation of the classic "cowboys vs indians" story. To me the Na'vi, Omaticaya clan, resemble the Lakota Sioux indian tribes. You'll see other representations with other clans later in the coming part 2. According to Cameron, these representations were intentional. They even went to the "leaders" for permission to represent their culture.
I'm glad you liked the movie! I think this was the only movie i watched multiple times in the cinema because it was such a great experience. On the big screen, 3D (the best 3D i have ever seen), the sounds and the whole athmosphere. Amazing experience.
Speaking as someone whose legs have become extremely weak & useless from a nerve disease that started at 16… that first scene where he wakes up in the avatar body… i actually cried in theatre, seeing him run like that, the simple joy of being able to move as he did. Occasionally i just can’t watch it because it hurts to see, but it’s beautiful too. Looking forward to the new one when it comes out
Understandably so. People saying Cameron can't write are fkn mental. People don't understand the difference between "it's not good" and "I don't like it".
I feel your pain. I have chronic pain constantly.... SI joint dysfunction, scoliosis, collapsed arches, arthritis in my knees as well as patellar tracking disorder. I have been in pain for almost a decade. You bet your ass I'd trade my body for an avatar.
@@jaydenshepard7928 Even if they don't explicitly show him fighting, it doesn't look like he's running away to me, seeing how determined he is popping out of that pod grabbing a weapon and going out in the jungle again - and after the battle being one of the only humans allowed to stay. But you're free to see it as you want.
@@Hakkar6993 You're free to make whatever head cannon you want yourself, the difference is what I said was based on information that is verified and shown to the viewer. What I said is also supported by the fact that at the point he exits the pod the Navi had already all run away as well from the ground battle and Eywa was already in the process of taking over the fight. There wasn't enough time for him to feasibly join any fight, it was basically all over at that point.
@@jaydenshepard7928 I mean I didn't say he "did" fight after leaving the pod, I said he goes out "to" fight again, as in pointing out his determination. If the battle was already over by that point then sure he didn't 'actually' fight, but it doesn't change he went out with the intent to, which was what I was pointing out. Anyway, that's my view on it and it doesn't really matter because none of us are going to budge, so have a good one. 👍
I always cry at the "Eywa has heard you!" part. Just the idea of nature fighting back against us. the humans that destroy. Its beautiful. The connection they had with pandora is so gorgeous i wish it was real.
We were more intuned with nature and ourselves before... Now we're so clouded and removed from everything that is important... They say now we only use bout 10% of our brains... Imagine what it will be like going full throttle....
@@plasma7819 i dont get ur point here, what he said he still true, you know people can do something and still recon the fact it have bad repercution, i use a "cellular device that has a carbon footprint" cause they are pro to this, but that doesnt mean i cant recon there also have con to use it... the world isnt black and white...
13:17 I'm glad you guys kind of picked up on this --Jake's torch was almost unnecessary, since the jungle provides enough light at night! By making the fire, he limited his field of vision!
That was the point. He didn't know that. He was told that he is flying to Pandora a WEEK before he got launched up. He didn't have time to learn anything beyond the bare minimum. What he knew as a marine however was that once the light is out, it's OUT, so he made that torch before he was in a complete darkness. If you look closely, you see that during that time it was still dusk. The bioluminiscence isn't strong enough to shine over that. Then he was blinded by the fire he (rightfully by Earth's standards) made to get through the night, so his eyes didn't have time to get used to the dimness of everything around him. During the fight, the last sunlight disappeared and the bioluminiscence kicked in, but he didn't see the glow until AFTER the fire was out and his eyes had about 10 seconds to get used to that. Both his actions and the reveal of the light make a perfect sense. I remember seeing the movie for the first time and just thinking that the blue moss and deep purple plants when Neytiri kills that one vounded dog were just the "blue light filter" for night scenes and i only realized what was going on as Jake did. Which is exactly what JC was going for, so well done!
@@sillyjellyfish2421 I expect he wouldn't have been briefed about it anyway because his superiors wouldn't know. First, they would see going out at night as too dangerous. Second, of theybxo go out they always ensure they have lights. Nobody had been caught short before out alone in the jungle.
@@sillyjellyfish2421exactly why she said he was like a baby walking around making noise and doesn’t know what to do lol literally was the whole point of the scene
Neytiri, so much pain she endures in just 1 movie. Felt the pain of death by her two bonds, lost her parents, home. Don't let me start on the second one lol
The most common complaint I heard when this movie was still fairly new was that it was "just the Pocahontas story but the natives win." As you guys mentioned, yes, it's a story that's been told before. The difference is how well the story is told and the visuals that are included. No, it's not a new story, but the way it's told is and, to me, and a lot of other people, well worth watching.
funny enough, if i'm not wrong, Disney's Pocahontas and Avatar were written basically at the same time, Cameron just held Avatar off because he wanted to wait for tech to improve to tell the story (there's a reason why even to this day it doesn't look dated) the same goes for Avatar 2, also; though i do think the wait kinda hurt it
This cut version leaves out SOO much. :( The extended collectors edition has 16 mins of extra watch time, and it perfectly fills in all the gaps. Usually the extended cuts of movies are useless, but this one actually makes the viewing experience like 10x better
@@retropyro why would they give you something on a streaming service you're already paying for, when they can choose to not stream it and force you to pay even more to watch it?
In the original script there was a side romance between Norm and Trudy that would have been awesome to keep in. They had worked side by side for so long that it crossed the boundaries between soldier and scientist and was ultimately a large part of her reasoning for helping their side.
I love that when Jake takes his first flight, the animal does what he thinks and says, and when she told him to say fly, he said "fly?" in confusion, so the bird did just that. Kinda flied haphazardly not knowing what it really meant in confusion until he shouted FLY STRAIGHT! and then it figured it out. lol
Im so happy you guys understood how norm was feeling at first, so many reactors I've watched just immediately thought he was just being an asshole but I'm glad you guys could see how it was mostly out of jealousy and the irritation of working so hard on something for literal years all for some guy who doesn't know a single thing to come in and get all the appraisal, reward and acknowledgement.
Avatar 2 took so long because they had to develop the technology to be able to film it. They perfected how to shoot performance capture underwater and boy was it worth the wait. James Cameron keeps changing the landscape of what is possible in film. He’s such a great visionary director. Loved your reaction as always.
All channels that have at least one person who's seen the movie before, and the other(s) haven't, should take note on how to do it professionally by watching this reaction. Don't have to talk and don't have to ask questions, just let it happen organically like these gents. Well done fellas.
Tsahelu is a bond- a deep connection between mind and soul Eywa is real, she is essentially the moon’s consciousness- ‘made up of all living things’ Unobtanium is actually a real scientific term for a theoretical ‘perfect’ element- in reality people would have come up with a different name for it but I think it was kept for the movie so it made more sense Just like how the Ikran had to choose Jake, Toruk also chose him, during the flight chase you could see him aiming for Jake not Neytiri Tsu Tey was originally supposed to mate with Neytiri’s older sister Sylwanin, but the extended edition explains why she wasn’t there Tsu Tey’s death was more harrowing in the extended edition- it made me cry lol If I’m correct, before the humans arrived on Pandora and the Na’vi started learning English, the Na’vi didn’t have a word for ‘lie’ After this movie came out, people began to suffer from what was eventually labelled Post Avatar Depression Syndrome- people connected to this movie deeply and seeing how the Na’vi live compared to their real lives really effected them, reality simply couldn’t live up to the beauty of Pandora
When the planet and all its wildlife turned on the humans, oh man did people start cheering in the seats! Seeing this in 3D on the proper massive IMAX screen (the NYC Lincoln Center one, biggest one in the US) was damn jaw-dropping.
Quaritch is such a great villain. The fact that he was able to escape his airship to be able to have the final standoff is a testament to his character. I love to see that even the villain will do anything to get his victory.
That's a really good way of putting it, when I first watched this movie and it ended it felt like I was "unplugged" when it ended. I loved the movie and felt sad it was over
I was one of those who initially saw the trailers and thought it looked "Stupid". Little did I realize I would be seeing it 28 times in theaters (26 in IMAX 3D). It has become my favorite movie of all time. The sequel is really good as well (looking forward to that reaction).
This movie completely blew my mind when I saw it for the first time in the theater. It’s still my fathers favorite movie. I can’t wait for you guys to watch “The Way of Water” so you can see how they were able to improve upon the already amazing graphics.
The fact that this movie came out when I was in preschool and now I’m in high school is insane. I LOVE this movie. 13 years of waiting for the second one and the sequel didn’t disappoint 😊
Man, this is a nostalgia trip! Avatar was the first 3-D movie I saw in theaters and it absolutely blew me away! Just, the world, the beautiful lights and colors, everything was gorgeous!.
I love you guys so much. In the mushiest, most sincerest way possible. This has quickly become one of my favorite channels, just because you all admire the cinematic experience so differently and honestly and somehow...impulsively and thoughtfully. I can't express it enough. I'm so excited this is a movie that Oak has seen...I can't wait to see how much he does or doesn't spoil! Much love and peace to you all.
on the original version there was a scene that was removed when jake and neytiri mated, they actually used the tsaheylu (the weird thing that they use to connect to the animals) and connected to eachother
Oh did they remove that? I can see why. People though that was how they had sex, which in turn made everyone grossed out by them bonding with an animal they same way they bonded with another person.
Yeah- it’s in the extended edition, but they removed it from this version because people were a little dumb and assumed that tsahelu itself was them ‘doing it’, but Na’vi copulate in a similar way to humans- the bond just enhances it, making you more connected to your partner. James Cameron was disappointed that people took it the other way
@@caseyhedges5699 I thought it was just a connection between them, just like a really intimate thing but I did assume that people took it the other way. I think it was an amazing detail because it makes the relationships between the Na’vi and other animals/eywa/people way deeper
This movie is a perfect example for the human race's greed, cruelty, ignorance, egoism, and the sense of superiority towards any lifeform that we deem beneath us.
There are movies with better characters, a better plot, better dialogue and better cinematography, but Avatar has this undefinable thing that makes it the best movie ever made imo. One of my early inspirations for becoming a biologist
Oh that’s so cool. I think though that’s the take away for a lot of people, that they end up having a lot more love and respect for the Earth in seeing the beauty of Pandora. Since it’s Earth equivalent and all. Glad it inspired you into a freaking awesome career. 😄
This was my favorite movie for a good while after it came out. It's both a classic story and fantastic science fiction that allows you to emotionally immerse yourself in this strange yet familiar world, as you guys mentioned. And Oak talking about the anti-colonial aspect of the story is a tell that he really has watched this movie several times! I really hope James Cameron pulls off his envisioned 5 Avatar movies I think it is, crazy to think about after waiting 13 years for the first sequel!!
The Avatar film series needs to be view on the big screen and in 3D because the narrative itself is dependent on how you can relate to it. The technologies used behind these films are just amazing.
@@yzyFCBsocio69 it's absolute eye candy, and that's why it's great to see on a larger format. It's nothing about taking too seriously, but nearly all films are made to be seen on a larger format, so to say that is not out of place. Lots is missed. An example is I took my son and husband to see The Dark Crystal on the big screen, and even though they've both seen it at home multiple times over the years, they recognized the improvement by seeing it looming large in front of them.
@@yzyFCBsocio69 it seems like James Cameron also had you shackled from your ankles, the fact that you fell asleep during the first movie, basically not enjoying the movie, BUT you still went back to give more money to James for his second movie, mhm. 🤔
@@yzyFCBsocio69 You seem big pressed with people, ya know, actually enjoying these movies 🤔 just say it wasn't to your liking and go. Stop trying to project your feelings and opinions on everyone else as if they are universal, it's giving egocentric bitterness. 😒
I took my dad at 70 to the cinema to see this, and watched it about 500 times in those 13 years I waited for the sequel. When the sequel came out, I took my dad to the cinema again D I have watched the 2nd movie 5 times already. The movies are AMAZING, and the 2nd one is the best. I can't wait to see your reactions ❤️❤️
I rode the Avatar ride in Disney World's Animal Kingdom and it was AMAZING! You get to fly on a dragon all over Pandora. You even feel wind and mist from the water hit your face and it is so well done. Highly recommend it if you get the chance! Plus, at night, Animal Kingdom has lots of plants all lit up to look bioluminescent.
I saw this 3 times in theaters, twice in 3D. It was absolutely amazing in theaters. I bought the first release that had no extras and then the release with all the extra scenes and behind the scenes. So i have two different versions on DVD. I've seen it probably at least a dozen times. I cry every time. That first flight they had together on the ikrans was so emotional for me. I've had dreams of flying since i was a kid. Then when he becomes one with the Last Shadow near the end... so amazing. This movie gets me every single time.
I love that the general feeling on this movie has changed. I've always loved it, and yes, it has some strong inspiration from other stories, but it's just a testament to world building and the sequel somehow blows it away
Agreed! The thing is though....I never understood the hate of "inspiration from other stories"? A lot of people kept saying that, but viewing other tribes, races, as lesser than and a means to an end (or even in your way) is a universal human experience. One that we've sadly done time and time again throughout history. It's not just a Pocahontas inspired idea 😅
@@annalawrence824 It's a take I like to counter with asking just how many 'Romeo and Juliet' inspired movies there are. There's no way to know. It's obvious what story beats are going to be touched on there too, but the execution is all that matters at the end of the day. As long as there are enough factors and themes separating one from the other then why not enjoy a film that has a simple story?
Yeah, I agree with The Oak, it's Pandora which makes you keep coming back for more. James Cameron and the artists which worked on this, created such a beautiful, lush, colourful world, filled with incredible creatures and vegetation. The grass, the plants, the trees, even the water was CGI, and it still looks incredible.
I liked how the voice was separated from the rest of the sound/music so we can follow while avoiding the fun police. The real legacy I feel is the seductive nature of Cameron's world building. With this setting any film will look great and it's up to the writers to earn their keep.
Man I really wish they watched the full cut. It has much more character development. More story with grace and the school, see the rivalry between Jake and Tsu tay turn into more of a brothership by Jake earning his respect by being the only other person who can successfully hunt in the air and a beautiful last moment with each other before tsu tay dies. And a bunch of other stuff. Essentially everyone who dies gets more character development so their deaths are way more impactful. Its awhole nother 15 minutes of great Avatar stuff Edit: forgot to mention his relationship with Tsu Tay in the full cut also makes Netiri choosing Jake over Tsu Tay more impactful.
To see Oak just sitting in silence clearly loving this movie. This is one of those few movies that legitimately has something for everyone the world building is insane. Maybe I'm a sucker for someone that can create a believable world in general but this insane talent .
Was waiting for this reaction for so long!!I have watched this movie uncountable no of times. It was my first 3d movie, saw it when I was 11 or something. After that I got a dvd on rent, never returned it, watched it until the dvd got scratched. No matter how many times I watch it, I still pick up so many small new details. One of the best movies ever made.
Such a magical movie. I remember the first time I saw it I felt like a child- I was mesmerized and quickly fell in love with Pandora. It’s just beautiful
I’m so so so here for this, can’t wait to start the Avatar journey with you guys! There are three more movies to be released I believe! So we’re in for the long haul!
I saw this movie in 3D and it ruined other 3D movies for me because nothing else was this good. I loved seeing Oak smile at the other 2 going crazy, just like Answer in the other Avatar world
I love watching people watching this movie for the 1st time. from running the rides at the theme park for nearly 4 years and even getting an ikran tattooed on my forarm. but the joy of others enjoying it makes me happy,
Lmao that "NOPE!" when they climbing up to the ikrans, that was my reaction too. Like, alright it was fun guys this was awesome, I draw the line here though lmao
Just a little extra information, but Tsu’tey was originally engaged to Neytiri’s older sister, she ended up being killed at Grace’s school by the soldiers. After her death, Tsu’tey became engaged to Neytiri. If I remember correctly, he loved the older sister and loved Neytiri as a sister. (Anyone feel free to correct me if I was wrong/missed something)
My interpretation of Grace’s change when she’s in her avatar state is not that it makes her nicer, it’s just that she’s in her element and feeling the most joy. The only reason she was ever a hardass is because the money and the politics is so at odds with what’s most important and that’s the respect for and preservation of the world. When we see her out in nature, she’s most settled, the most at peace. I love the distinction.
About the brutality of the moment - there are 2 specific scenes that make me tear up like a baby each time and both times it is because of the sound. In this movie it was the first time i have seen anyone using the sound before the scene cut to keep the story connected. Like that time when the cremating fire is actually the shuttle engine, or when Jake looks at arrows in that truck's tires and we already hear "you're not in Kansas anymore" and dozens of others. And yet, there is exactly ONE scene where the sound just cuts off suddenly and entirely - when the Hometree is falling and we see various groups running away at once, there is a moment when a part of the trunk is falling on a group of women and children, and the moment when the camera (POV of someone standing there) would be hit by the tree, both the scene and the sound just cuts. Like dozens of na'vi, we the audience just get squished with them amd we are gone. I cry every time. The 2nd tear hell is shortly after, when Neytiri tells Jake to never come back. I swear that i have never seen another character in any movie ever before or after (with the exception of The way of water of course) cry like Neytiri did here. Holywood is so affraid of the image of ugly, angry, snot and tears and blood covered female characters looking broken and absolutely unsexy as they break emotionally, because they think that it scares the male audience away. And yet here we have Zoey, ugly, grieving, angry, dirty, wailing with raspy skipping and broken voice craddling the mutilated body of her father... And i cry again.
Man, this is such a fantastic film. Simple story, but the visuals and pure raw emotions and the details in the world building and creature lore all make it what it is, a masterpiece. Usually that’s the reaction people have at first, the “ it’s blue aliens, it’s Pocahontas in space” or some annoying crap like that, but then they actually take the time to watch it, and most people come around to enjoying it. Even if you didn’t absolutely love it, or feel it was the best movie ever made not many people watch this and truly hate it. Most of the hate you see online is purely on principal leaked over from hate on the actual director ( which, I admit, there are some justifiable reasons to dislike the man- but really, that’s a conversation I’d rather not get into). Point is, there is a reason this movie made over 2 billion, and it deserved it. Beautiful visuals. I think I’ve said this before, on your Planet of the Apes reactions, but this movie is definitely up there with that franchise when it comes to cgi and just the realness of everything. Though the difference in those movies and in this one, is that there wasn’t nearly as much detail in the plot or world building as in a story like this. I really hope you guys do react to The Way of Water. If you enjoyed this movie and were blown away by the effects, you’ll be hyperventilating with excitement during the second movie. while this movie is great, the second really lays ground work for a franchise that’s still in the baby stages and the characters have so much more depth. You’ll love each and every new character as well ( at least I hope). And the only other thing I have to say about that movie is, it’s not called *Way of Water* for nothing😉 Enjoyed your reaction guys, as always I look forward to your next video.
I'm no tree hugger by any means, but, every time I see the home tree fall I shed a tear. That in a nutshell is how humans treat the Earth more or less. Me included....
Took my mom to IMAX 3D for the sequel. She is 74 and has never seen a 3D movie or been to IMAX. First IMAX movie was Top Gun: Maverick, and first 3D movie was also in IMAX and was the sequel to Avatar. She loved both, and was entirely immersed. She did say that some of the 3D does get overwhelming, but she loved both movies. The Avatar movies are really what 3D immersion should feel like (imo) anyway.
This is one of my favorite films of all time, it's been years now and I'm still obsessed. I've never watched it 3D, I refused to watch the new one, The Shape of Water after I missed watching it in the theater. I hope that they'll bring this one in theaters again 🥹♥️
I went and saw this at the theatres in 3D after my friend described it as Alien Pocahontas and it was a whole goddamn experience guys! The way of Water is amazing too and i cant wait for your guys reaction to that one, the best reactions on youtube for me! 💪💪💪
Just watched the full reaction with you guys and it was a blast. Only have watched the movie one time when it came out in 2009, so for me it was almost like the first time 😅 Glad, you could again slip a Jurassic Park reference into it - "Life Finds A Way". Also, Stephen Lang is just one of the best actors for villains like that 🥺 Excited for the next part! Thank you for your reaction guys! 💚💪
I remember working at the theater when this came out. We got our 1st true 3D projector just for this movie. All the workers stayed late and we previewed the movie the day before it came out.
Saw it three times in theaters. Remember my mom saying that when they left, everything seemed a little duller. Saw the sequel three times in theaters, as well. The sequel is, if possible, even better. It's everything about the first movie but on a much bigger scale. Also, Avatar 3 is scheduled for December 2024 and scenes for it have already been shot.
It's crazy; I saw this film only 2-3 months before my life DID change forever... when I came down with a brain tumour. I'm STILL living with the after-effects 13 years later
I was 11 years old when the first Avatar came out, was blown away back then, I waited 13 years for the sequel and was super hyped when the first trailer came out, I'm 25 now and watched The Way of Water 11 times in theaters! It's such an incredible experience watching it on the big screen in IMAX 3D. The visuals are on another level and you feel like you're on Pandora, that everything is real! I had to remind myself a couple times that almost everything is CGI. Good thing is that I can watch in 3D with my projector, as soon as the 3D Blu-Ray releases I'm gonna watch it again. But nothing comes close to the IMAX experience! Can't wait for the third one and your reaction to The Way of Water!
The theatrical 3D was especially insane because it was actually filmed natively, rather than post-converted like most films. Furthermore, in true James Cameron fashion, they developed entirely new 3D cameras and rigs just for this movie.
I remember seeing this once a week every week while it was in theaters in 3D because once it was out of theaters you'd never get to see it like that again. The 3D was done so well that you barely even noticed it, it was just so natural. No weird focus issues other movies would have. Just beautiful. Smooth. It added so much to the movie.
The scream I just let out when I saw you guys reacting to this omg I so ready and so hyped that you all get to immediately watch the second one, but also low key jealous those 10 years were a struggle 😭😂❤️
James Cameron killed it with the Avatar movies he OWNS the box office with not one not 2 but 3 movies in the top 5 if im not wrong, what a asolute legend.
I absolutely love Avatar and the world of Pandora!!Such a amazing place that just feels so real can’t wait for part 2s reaction it was so great!!Excited for these reactions!!🔥🔥
This was re-released in 3-D IMAX a week or two before the sequel came out to refresh everyone’s minds. It was taken out of circulation and I don’t believe there is any other plans to re-re-release it. I hope they do put it in theaters again. My favoring actor was C.C.H. Pounder. She is amazing in every role she plays.
I truly hope you guys got to see Avatar 2 in the movies because it was the most magical movie experience I have ever had. Felt unreal and like nothing else. I think a big part of all Avatar movies is simply the enjoyment of discovering a new world like Oak said, and the technology makes it possible. It really sucks you in and takes you to a different world, and I believe I read Cameron say that is one of his main goals with these movies: to make people feel like they really are there. Beautiful.
Grew up watching it my parents took me and my sister to go watch it in 3D when it first came out which was rare since we didn't have a lot of money really and I loved it and have watched hundreds of times at home on DVD and love it and when they re released it theaters I paid for the tickets for me and my family to go see it in 3D again and I paid for the tickets for when avatar 2 came out on December 16th as well to see it and 3D and me and my family loved it a lot I was 20 when I saw it now 21 but I was still in the single digits of age when I first saw this movie and have grown up watching it for a long time and am glad you guys are watching it
Did you know that this movie triggered a new syndrome, called PADS (Post-Avatar-Depression-Syndrome), because it made people so depressed about not being able to live in such a beautiful world, they couldn't stand reality anymore.
Oak is right. James Cameron had written Avatar before he did Titanic, but the technology wasn't good enough to do it. He actually spent time with Peter Jackson during the filming of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, because Peter and Weta had developed and invented a lot of new technology, including portable, shoulder cams that could capture motion capture (developed to film Andy Serkis as Gollum) and that helped him to finally film Avatar. Also, he hired Weta digital for the effects.
I saw this in theatres back in 2009. It was so intense and absolutely beautiful! I didn't know two of you didn't see it yet. Oak sitting there being the only one who has lol. I love this movie, yes some memes came about since,. but back then it was the pinnacle of awesome CGI. It sets the bar high for good quality. So happy to watch your reactions!
Relax, my friends. You can watch all of them in theaters whenever the next one comes out. There is ALWAYS a re-screening of prequels during big sequels like Avatar. I did NOT watch it in theaters in 2009, but when The Way of Water came out, I saw the *remastered* version of the first Avatar in theaters JUST before watching the second one and it was SO impressive to note how the quality was just vamped up another couple of notches. Absolutely worth it.
And overstate how awesome this was in 3D. In the beginning where he is on the ship and his cryo bed is coming out of the wall with all the doctors in zero G... it was incredible.
I went into cinema when thei put Avatar 1 back 10 months ago, and I was so happy that thei updated ending scene, when Giovanni comes to Jake he will tell him "You know this isn´t over." this never was in first release in 2009, and I was so much more hipped for Avatar 2.
I'd definitely recommend Bryce Edward Brown's videos on Avatar. They're really well-made and comprehensible, and they go into depth on a lot of stuff they either cut from the movie or included in secondary media.
The flight of passage ride in Disney world based on this movie is absolutely amazing. You actually think you're riding a banshee while you're in the ride.
James Cameron had the concept, world building, and early scripts for Avatar since 1994, but the tech was not up to the task until at least 2005. The gap between the first and second films was because of the needed tech development for under water scenes, which wasn't there until 10-12 years later. Remember when Turuk attacked Jake and Ney'Tiri, Turuk was entirely focused on Jake, which shows that Turuk chose him during that attack when it tried to kill him, just as his Ikran chose him by attacking him. Also, Eytukan was played by Wes Studi (Magua from "Last of the Mohicans"), Mo'at was played by C.C. Pounder (Warehouse 13), Selfridge was played by Giovanni Rabisi (Gone in 60 Seconds), and Quaritch was played by Stephen Lang (Terra Nova). When I saw it in theaters, first thing I did when I left the theater was go pick up the soundtrack. I also have the theatrical release and the extended collectors edition of the movie.
Loved this film when it came out! , The parallels with the Native Americans and many other tribes and cultures that have been wiped out makes this film hit hard. Lovely reaction as always lads !
I was waiting for this! As a child, I was completely obsessed with this movie and it still is my favorite movie of all time, sharing the top spot with the sequel.
Yes, this was amazing in the theater. The epic battle was disorienting. There were actually a rash of mental health crisis among viewers who had difficulty coping with Pandora not being real. It was a glorious movie to see on that big screen. Unlike the rest of us who had to wait years for the sequel, which is equal to this one, IMO. Just glorious to watch.
Avatar! What world James Cameron has built. Amazing job by the cast and crew on this. What was your reaction? What did we miss?

Looking forward to the new one when it comes out
The new one is already out :D
Understandably so. People saying Cameron can't write are fkn mental. People don't understand the difference between "it's not good" and "I don't like it".
Coming to Disney + tomorrow. I’m so excited 😃
I feel your pain. I have chronic pain constantly.... SI joint dysfunction, scoliosis, collapsed arches, arthritis in my knees as well as patellar tracking disorder. I have been in pain for almost a decade. You bet your ass I'd trade my body for an avatar.

im glad cause then he didn’t spoil or give anything away
i love his wink at 37:24, it’s just perfect to show he knows what’s happening but isn’t giving it away haha
Norm is a badass, man gets killed in his Avatar, immediately picks up a rifle and goes out to fight AGAIN.
-badass- dumbass
He doesnt go out and fight he runs away lol, you never see him try and fight anyone after that.

It was a popular sub-genre during the pulp age, called "Planetary Romance". The most famous example then was John Carter of Mars.
I thought it was more Dances with Wolves, but I now can see Pocahontas
funny enough, if i'm not wrong, Disney's Pocahontas and Avatar were written basically at the same time, Cameron just held Avatar off because he wanted to wait for tech to improve to tell the story (there's a reason why even to this day it doesn't look dated)
the same goes for Avatar 2, also; though i do think the wait kinda hurt it
Its just like Fern gully

In the original script there was a side romance between Norm and Trudy that would have been awesome to keep in. They had worked side by side for so long that it crossed the boundaries between soldier and scientist and was ultimately a large part of her reasoning for helping their side.
I just 'paid attention' to Norm riding effortlessly into battle. I didn't know he must have some equestrian training - possibly a child of means.
not just in the script, they shot the scenes, and included them in the directors cut
I wouldn’t call norm a soldier but yeah true😂
And then there was that cut scene where Norm was caught making out with Trudy...
@@alarrim29574 Trudy is the soldier, Norm is the scientist
I felt and understood Norms' attitude too...
I definitely got his view but that didn’t give him the right to be rude to Jake keep in mind he’s thrown into a new work himself
Avatar 2 took so long because they had to develop the technology to be able to film it. They perfected how to shoot performance capture underwater and boy was it worth the wait. James Cameron keeps changing the landscape of what is possible in film. He’s such a great visionary director. Loved your reaction as always.

Tsahelu is a bond- a deep connection between mind and soul
Eywa is real, she is essentially the moon’s consciousness- ‘made up of all living things’
Unobtanium is actually a real scientific term for a theoretical ‘perfect’ element- in reality people would have come up with a different name for it but I think it was kept for the movie so it made more sense
Just like how the Ikran had to choose Jake, Toruk also chose him, during the flight chase you could see him aiming for Jake not Neytiri
Tsu Tey was originally supposed to mate with Neytiri’s older sister Sylwanin, but the extended edition explains why she wasn’t there
Tsu Tey’s death was more harrowing in the extended edition- it made me cry lol
If I’m correct, before the humans arrived on Pandora and the Na’vi started learning English, the Na’vi didn’t have a word for ‘lie’
After this movie came out, people began to suffer from what was eventually labelled Post Avatar Depression Syndrome- people connected to this movie deeply and seeing how the Na’vi live compared to their real lives really effected them, reality simply couldn’t live up to the beauty of Pandora
When the planet and all its wildlife turned on the humans, oh man did people start cheering in the seats!
Seeing this in 3D on the proper massive IMAX screen (the NYC Lincoln Center one, biggest one in the US) was damn jaw-dropping.

on the original version there was a scene that was removed when jake and neytiri mated, they actually used the tsaheylu (the weird thing that they use to connect to the animals) and connected to eachother
Oh did they remove that? I can see why. People though that was how they had sex, which in turn made everyone grossed out by them bonding with an animal they same way they bonded with another person.
@@loupgarou95 yep, they did remove it
Yeah- it’s in the extended edition, but they removed it from this version because people were a little dumb and assumed that tsahelu itself was them ‘doing it’, but Na’vi copulate in a similar way to humans- the bond just enhances it, making you more connected to your partner.
@@Ne0n_0527 It is intimate in the sense that your minds are united - the whole planet is so connected and it’s truly beautiful

The Avatar film series needs to be view on the big screen and in 3D because the narrative itself is dependent on how you can relate to it. The technologies used behind these films are just amazing.

This will be fuuuuuuun- can’t wait to watch with you guys! Y’all are excellent and such gems
Its awhole nother 15 minutes of great Avatar stuff
Edit: forgot to mention his relationship with Tsu Tay in the full cut also makes Netiri choosing Jake over Tsu Tay more impactful.
To see Oak just sitting in silence clearly loving this movie. This is one of those few movies that legitimately has something for everyone the world building is insane. Maybe I'm a sucker for someone that can create a believable world in general but this insane talent .

And the only other thing I have to say about that movie is, it’s not called *Way of Water* for nothing😉
Enjoyed your reaction guys, as always I look forward to your next video.

I'm so glad this is finally happening! Hope this means youll be watching AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER because my god... its worth it!
At the time, we called it Dances With Wolves in space.
Avatar 2 is groundbreaking. Better than real life
James Cameron had the concept, world building, and early scripts for Avatar since 1994, but the tech was not up to the task until at least 2005.
Still blows my mind the amount of movies you guys havent seen, I love watching your reactions to all these movies.
Unobtanium is an aerospace term for a mineral that can do the job of several but is extremely rare
When I first saw this I saw it on IMAX Omni theater in 3D. To say every other viewing since then paled in comparison is an understatement!!
