- While shopping with her mother (Agnes Moorehead), Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) realizes she will be late for a dress fitting. Luckily, Endora comes up with a plan so that her daughter can enjoy the rest of her afternoon: she will transform into a double of Samantha.
From Season 1 Episode 24 'Which Witch Is Which?' - When disguised as Samantha for a dress fitting, Endora meets an intriguing author and decides to try out the mortal lifestyle. Nosy Gladys Kravitz sees them together.

The way she holds her face when she's playing Endora makes her look like a different woman. That's the mark of a consumate actress.
The Batman I was just thinking the same! Too bad that after Bewitched she nvr wanted to talk about it. I have been meaning to see her as Lizzy Borden, but just nvr have the time. Just an exquisite actress. ❤️

@@youejtube7692 Well they certainly do help to distinguish the two but Elizabeth does act differently as Endora. Facial expressions, eye movements, several different things. The makeup helps but it's not all.
I love Endora's subtle differences imposed on Samantha's body; upturned eye make up, heavy lashes, deeper sexy voice and brimming confidence.
Dan...I don't recognize what men find attractive in women, but this is about the very thick eyeliner of that era, which for women over a certain age, draws attention to the outside of the eye instead of some sagging skin here and there. It was meant to be complimentary, though I don't know how well it succeeded.
This was the prototype for the Serena character.
Endora always looks so stylish and well put together.
You know, I was never into Bewitched reruns growing up but I was always captivated by Endora. Watching these clips, I can add this to my list of binge shows. I love the way they dress in the 60s, very stylish and classy. Love the clothes from Get Smart and Gomer Pyle too.

A...black, red and turqoise are universal colors mostly for women, of course...blondes are great in black because it shows confidence!

Endora’s reaction when Mrs. Kravitz said she wanted to meet Samantha’s mother was priceless. “Really? That *would* be a thrill for you-she’s marvelous! A thoroughly fascinating woman.” That freaked out poor Mrs. Kravitz just a bit.
She captured Endora perfectly! What an amazing actress! I, too, was getting a bit nervous with that Endora “witchiness” so perfectly mastered by Elizabeth Taylor!

But wages were just $1-$1.60, depending on the year this episode was filmed. Lucky to have $40 a week bring home pay.
A few years ago I purchased 4 hoodies from walmart.com for $12 each, free shipping. Not exactly upscale dressing, but I thought that was an excellent price. I am still wearing them.
That's why Macy's became a sales pavilion ..... & thrift shops .... of all kinds .... ranks ... are everywhere??

I really loved Endora! She is the quintessential mom-in-law, and I always thought Agnes got along very well with Dick York because that's how she played "hating" him so well. Actors can't act in simjilar roles to their conditions - they always play the opposite of what they're really like at the particular time of filming.
I enjoy hearing stories about how actors on TV shows are supposed to hate each other in the show but in real life they are the best of friends. Other examples include Adam West (Batman) and some of the villains on his show, and Richard Deacon (Mel Cooley) and Buddy Sorrell (Morey Amsterdam) on the Dick Van Dyke Show. Unfortunately, there are also tons of examples where the OPPOSITE is true - actors who are supposed to be friendly with each other on their show but in real life can't stand each other!!

I have seen it at lease a half a dozen times. Good show. Well, ever episode of BEWITCHED was a CLASS ACT .
I think the reason why Bewitched bece #1 show the first year, they had Danny Arnold he did some writings on the show also he was the script consultant at times they had him producing the show. After they let him go it wasn't like it first started out. I still enjoyed the show

I wish they'd just start uploading whole episodes. I'm so sick of 2-5 minute clips. I don't even own a t.v. anymore, I only use my phone and I want to see full episodes of all my favorite shows.

I loved the Bewitched episodes before Tabatha/Tabitha came along, it was much more sophisticated and adult than the post-Tabithas. The series became more childish after Tabitha was born. That's probably why Bewitched was the #1 show during the 1964-65 season, and never reached that point for the remaining seven seasons.
Darrin was an Ad man, pinnacle career of the times. His former girlfriend, Sheila? Can’t recall her name, was a high society woman, not girl. The convertible showed Darrin to be a man about town also. You see some of that in the first year or so. Then Darrin became a real Durwood and jackass in a comedic way. He went from a sophisticated husband to a clueless goof always yelling SAM!! And telling her to correct some crazy bit of magic.
@@GrannyLaLa1960 Even Samantha's character changed somewhat after Tabitha was born. In the first season notice how her eye makeup is somewhat more exotic and sexy and how she tones it down after Tabitha is born? She becomes more approachable and slightly friendlier and slightly less aloof. The skilled actress that she is, Elizabeth even slightly changed her voice for Samantha in order to become friendlier. Originally, she sounded slightly more dramatic than the girl next door persona she had later on.
@@GrannyLaLa1960 Even though I loved Nancy Kovack as Sheila, I never quite understood why she was so infatuated with Dick York's Darrin. Let's be honest, I'm certainly no Adonis myself, but Darrin wasn't exactly a GQ model. Maybe she was more interested in his executive position in advertising?

I set up my DVD player in my bedroom last night so I can watch my NAKED CITY DVD set (1959-63). An excellent police TV show, filmed on the streets of NY. Such a quality show and the stories are so interesting.

In every interview I've seen with Elizabeth Montgomery, it's strictly verbatim, the same thing over and over again. And in these interviews, there is not one mention of either Dick York or Dick Sargent. It's all about Maurice Evans, Marion Lorne or Agnes Moorehead.
Well, believe it or not, Dick SARGENT was Elizabeth's First Choice to play Darrin but he was unavailable, so Dick YORK was chosen. And someone wrote recently that Elizabeth DID NOT LIKE Dick York. I always enjoyed Dick York's portrayal of Darrin, I never cared for Dick Sargent because I did not think he played "Sitcom Angry" the way it showed have been played, like the way Ricky would get mad at Lucy on I Love Lucy. Dick Sargent sounded TOO ANGRY. It's a fine line.
Whereas Agnes Moorehead and Dick York were best friends, from what I've read. I don't know what she thought of Sargent, but she always supported York.

I can't tell, was Agnes Moorhead's voice dubbed (obviously it was in the beginning), or was Elizabeth doing a marvelous impersonation?
I'm pretty sure it was an impersonation. She sounds a bit like her "Serena" voice, as well.
Sometimes if the background noise is too much, after a scene is filmed they will re-record their lines and dub them over the scene. You can tell on I Love Lucy and the Dick Van Dyke Show when they do it. When they say the lines it sounds like they are in a small room.
The very beginning was Agnes Moorhead. It was only EM after the throat clearing.
I love what I call the "Dior"episodes at the beginning of the series. So fashionable. So chic.

Amazing Acting just proves Excellent set up for playing her mother which a lot of actors doing something similar in other comedies tend to just get voice over from original actor point in case as in Red Drawf - Eps 'Body Swap'.

A few years ago I went to Woodstock NY near the Hudson Valley. I swear, I felt as though I was living in the early 1970s. It just had that atmosphere and ambiance.

I was born in 1961. Steak was 79c/lb, 8oz yogurts 5/$1, no cereal above $1/box, everything was 29c, 39c, 49c.....Comic books were 12c each, and 80-page giant comic books were 25c each.
minimum wage was $1 an hour. Most of a days wages for the dress.

@@bobtis I live in Queens NY, around 1967 my father and I stopped at the Gulf gas station in Great Neck, LI. The gas was .27/gallon. The owner actually told my father that he wanted to cut the price of his gas by a penny to .26c but Gulf wouldn't let him!! The one good thing about that gas station was they had a free Walt Disney magazine they gave out to customers.

In the pilot episode, strangers Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) and Darrin (Dick York) meet one another by bumping into each other several times. They fall in love and get married. On their wedding night, Samantha's witch mother, Endora (Agnes Moorehead) visits Samantha and is shocked to learn her new husband is a mortal, and predicts the marriage will not last. Samantha tells Darrin she's a witch and proves it. Darrin is shocked, but realizes he loves Samantha and cannot give her up, and he tells her he wants her to learn to live like a mortal. Later at a dinner party, Samantha uses her powers to get back at Darrin's condescending ex-girlfriend Sheila (Nancy Kovack).
Note: Rehearsal for the pilot was to begin on November 22, 1963, but was ultimately postponed due to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Filming was completed December 6 of that year.

When Samantha and Darrin purchase their first home together, Samantha and Endora use their magic to see what it would be like fully furnished. But their nosy neighbor Gladys Kravitz (Alice Pearce) witnesses the acts of magic and becomes shocked and hysterical.
