How many times did y'all say n***er about black people. Yes real special people! Thats a joke.Tell the truth about how brutality racist you people are in Mississippi! Back then and still to this day.
Ray's senior year at Southern Mississippi, averaged 44.7 yards per punt as a senior, best in the nation, kicked a 61-yard field goal during a snowstorm in a game at Utah, and intercepted eight passes from his safety position.
if its a playable position then you should be able to go into the hall of fame if your performance on the field warranted it. Ray guy's performance warranted it
For people that do not understand why this guy is in the HOF... He is the best punter to ever play the game! All of the modern techniques used today, Ray did back in the 70's & 80's... He was ahead of his time. The rumor is that he once kicked a punt 93 yards... Which is insane, even by today's standards! With modern equipment, new rules and modern football's... Punters still do not come even close to 93 yards!!! If you think punting is not important, then you are insane! Both kickers and punters can be extremely valuable... Having the ability to trap an offense in their own 20 yard line, can lead to points. Give that kind of leg to a team like the Bears defense and it will generate points!!! Safety's in bunches! Kickers put points up too... Sometimes when the game is on the line! I mean, if the Superbowl was on the line, I would want Ray Guy and Adam Vinatieri as my guys. #JustSayin
Ray Guy was an INCREDIBLE overall athlete, which was displayed on numerous instances with bad snaps and fakes. He was a true weapon not only his athleticism, but his cerebral approach as a legitimate field-flipper, He could coffin-corner kicks, boom the hell out of them long and/or high, induce turnovers from returners with ease. I don't think he ever gave up a TD on a punt return for his whole career either.
You are dumb if you think he actually kicked a punt 93 yards…. Nobody and I mean nobody can do it hasn’t ever been done won’t ever be… you would have to have a robot leg.
I'm glad this tired trope is dead. It takes an elite level of skill and calculation to become a pro NFL player, and he revolutionized the position. If you're the greatest at your position in a professional sport. You deserve to be a HOF player. I remember being so happy for Ray Guy when he was finally in. It's a shame it took so damn long because of these old dinosaur voters.
The best ever. Congrats Ray, Thank you for all the memories Oakland Coliseum. Now when WILL the FHOF get Tom Flores and Jim Plunkett in FHOF with 2 superbowls and yet none. Other Coaches, players with no superbowls and they in the FHOF.
People forget, in Ray Guy's first practice with the Oakland Raiders: Ray Guy worked out with the NLF IN Winter Park 80482. He did so well, nobody said a thing, until John Madden pulled him out: wanted his first round punter with cast removed to be a last-minute results, to by
This guy was a punter but he had a stronger arm then the QBs on the raiders teams ....he could have been a HOF safety....D back.....he could have been in the baseball HOF .....he was one hell of a athlete...
A punter like Ray Guy makes their whole team better. His punts had so much hang time, you couldn't return them without getting blown up, letting it bounce into the end zone, or calling fair catch, and you'd have poor field position when you did. The defense has the advantage after a Ray Guy punt. And if the defense holds them deep in their territory to 3 and out, the offensive will have better field position after the opponent's punt. He makes the offense, defense, and special team's jobs much easier. A Ray Guy gives a team more opportunities to win than you'd imagine.
His nickname in is hometown was 'wonder boy', like Roy Hobbs bat...because he could do anything athletically. In 'The Road To Canton', [a great watch right here on YT] he pulled a 'Natural' and hit wires that sent sparks everywhere and blacked-out people's houses. He recalls running in the house and hiding!....c'mon now, ya gotta admit, that's a crazy coincidence...plus he was from a small rural farm area? WTH?
@@aaronmorrison2683 pat is just a popular name, he's a good punter but not Hof Worthy. Hekker is a Beast, he's an absolute weapon in more ways than just his leg. And I say this as a Seahawks fan.
With all due respect I don't think he should have made it into the hof over some of the players that were nominated I mean I would have put Tim Brown in there not a punter but then again he's in the hof and I'm not (yet) so:/
It's ok tim brown is in it this year and will have his speech tom. Ray guy does deserve being in though. If u have a college award named after u and what he did as a punter he deserves it. But i'm really hoping they put sean taylor in the hof one of these days.
You probably don't remember him in the 80s. Were you alive in the 80s? You had Ray Guy punting on the oppsing side (Browns fan here)...you either were 1) going to get an 80+ yd. punt.....or, set back within the 10 yard line, or he's going to do a fake punt. He deserves the Hall. Shame that it to so long for him, as the first punter, to get in. 3 rings, 8 All pros....he deserved it....
Joreselin A punter on a bad team will punt maybe 4, or 5 times the most (if a really crappy offense). This player makes the HOF for playing 4 or 5 plays (at most, sometimes less) a game?
shelleyinthecity This is not an ordinary punter. No team has ever stopped the game 20 minutes to check the ball for helium cause this guy kicked it so high it hit a fucking jumbotron. plus, a punter who makes the NFL 75th anniversary team should be a Hall of Famer yes?
Well his accolades speaks for himself. Like the guy above me said he isn't an ordinary punter. He played db in college and the fact that he has an college award named after him and he probably is the greatest punter ever. He deserves to be in. He's a legend at his position. Give him his respect.
Ray sat next to me in POLITICAL SCIENCE at SOUTHERN MISS. What a humble man he was.
Charlie fowler,jr. wow really? Ever keep touch with him?
Were you guys racist? I mean southern miss and all, just wondering..

And that’s where you messed up. Sea bass and Lechler were a perfect match. Never Mitch Patriot with a Raider. Should had never hired McDaniels!
