A tip that quickens up the book drying method is that after a week I will take them out and sit them in the sun for an hour and they completey dry perfectly!
You went over and beyond for this video! Thanks for putting in all that effort and showing us side by side comparisons. Everything turned out stunning, but I think my favorite part is watching your excitement and love for each flower!
This video idea was so smart for your channel! It's going to be invaluable to your audience and will also get you a new audience looking for new modern methods
Ooo, maybe for the silica gel, have two plastic containers stacked with holes drilled on the interior one. Then, when it's time to remove the flowers, you can life while you gently shake and sift the gel out! Maybe that would prevent breakage as you dig then out? Gosh, they all turned out so pretty. 🥺 Each method was so unique, perfect for different styles/themes!
Thanks for doing all that work to show us examples of each method! Unfortunately I’m really allergic to silica and I think those flowers definitely looked better than the hanging method. Years ago I made a flower press out of pegboard. I cut a 4’x8’ sheet of pegboard into 1ft. squares. Then, put several layers of paper and flowers in between two pieces peg board.. used bolts with wing nuts in the pre-drilled holes to clamp it down tightly. All those pre-drilled holes provided a little ventilation so, it worked really well. I also added a few more sheets of paper next to the pegboard to prevent the pattern of holes transferring onto to the 🌺. I don’t know if anyone would want to try this but, I thought I’d mention it just in case. Your video was really helpful! Thanks again!
I found you while looking on tutorials on how to dry flowers over a year ago...and ultimately how to use them in resin....I'm totally addicted now!! I wish I could post a pic tho 😞 But Thank you!!! 😁😁😁
Great video. You should do one comparing regular table salt, regular fine dry sand and then silica gel you will be shocked at which ones look the best and have the most vibrant colors if you've not tried these.
I didn’t think to move my flowers while drying in the book. Also I was thinking waxy pages were better so they didn’t stick. Thank you for all the info! You rock.
Holy cow! This video is so informative and so helpful! As a visual learner, I so appreciate you taking the time to really guide every step you take for each method on camera. THANK YOU!
I'm really glad to see a direct comparison of these methods for different flowers! The various methods definitely give different looks and it's really dependent on each flower and what effect you want to go for. It seems to me that the microfleur and silica gel are more reasonable for people that use flowers in projects a lot rather than someone who occasionally has some flowers they want to keep. I've had really good luck with drying upside-down and book-pressing, but the shape of some of the silica gel ones is pretty great!
flowers w/ thicker hardier petals, centers , or bulbs try putting them in the microwave for a few seconds. When carbon materials are warmed the bands of structure (cell walls) expand, begin to break down and become more pliable and yes, more free fragile so just handle with care. Like if you put in hot water but with drying flowers is counter productive. I do this and it helps so much.
The tulip looks like a butterfly. Omg there all so beautiful. I can't wait for the other mother tufting video now. One love girl hope your weekend rocks. ✌🏼❤🧡💛💚💙💜🖤
Silica gel is by far my favourite mainly because I’ve had the best colour preserving results with it. I also like the upside down drying sometimes for certain flowers. For flat art pieces I prefer the microfleur even though I still need to practice the right intervals and heat settings for different flowers. As always, great video! I fell like I’ve been waiting for this exact one for so long. I’ll definitely be using this guide a lot 💕
I like to dry my tulips on their sides, so they still look.like tulips. But thanks to an earlier video of yours, I got myself a Microfluer! Wow, thank you, seeing the different results was illuminating!
Brilliant, so informative , great to see the comparisons, usually airdry, had tried silicone but will definitely persevere and do both. Many thanks. Jan uk
I wonder if placing the book with the flowers in front of a dehumidifier, fan, maybe in front of an open window etc would prevent rotting. Don't know if it'd make much of a difference considering the pages are pressed together quite tighly, but it's worth a try
Still in the middle of watching, but I love anemones so much. I finally got a microwavable flower press 🙌 loving the results so far. Thanks for all the info 💕
I personally practice the book drying method and a little bit of the silica method. When I travel I tend to carry a small sketch book with me. Sometimes my husband and I will find a nice flower or petals of roses that I'll stick into the book and bind it with ponytail holders (it's a smaller sketch book). If I have any with me, and especially for flowers I feel will stick to the pages due to my forgetting it's in there in the first place or busy with traveling things, I will place the flowers within a folded piece of tracing paper. I find it helps reduce any texture from the book paper and it helps reduce bleeding and sticking since it's a less porous paper.
Thank you for doing this comparison! I’ve been using the book and silica gel options, and was thinking about a micro fleur, but now I can see how much color gets lost with that method, so I think I’m going to stick with what I’m doing. You’re amazing, thank you!!!
Once in resin, Do the flowers fade ? Suggest using netting like an onion bag to lay below silica and below each layer of flowers to be able to lift and sift.
Everything turned out gorgeous!!! My daughter and I watch you because she wants to do what you do for family and friends. I was wondering, Have you experimented with a dehydrator yet? We use 3d printers and dehydrate our filament before storing it away when it’s needed. We bought a Walmart one with extra trays and just cut the middles out to make the space bigger.
I love this video! Thank you, the explanations were so helpful. Removing the petals makes so much sense, I learned so much and the comparisons were amazing to see! Great job!!! 🌸
I always hang mine, I find the color pay off the best plus it's free, but I have also done the silica ones, but I like having the stems long so it's not my preference, I hate flat dried so I don't do the press or microwave, btw you can also microwave silica flowers, there are instructions online or on the packages I believe, or there were when I bought mine, but that was over 20 years ago
I want to put flowers from my brothers funeral today in resin I have a stem of bright blue delphinium, a sunflower, white rose and white carnation. From your videos I think I need to do the silica gel but I’m not sure on how long? I’m so afraid to ruin them. I learned I need to do small batches of the resin in layers to not burn them but how do I make sure I don’t burn them?
My husband gets me new flowers twice a month for my kitchen island. I want to get a large glass vase/jar to put a few of them in after they have dried. Do you think they would do okay in something like that?
I keep mine in a wicker case/picnic basket. And some old boxes with a pretty picture on. Line loosely with tissue paper so i can loosely cover them over
Here me out on this one, I found a bee the other day and wanna preserve it and put it into a frame with some flowers I have. However, I don't want them to be dried and lose their colour or shape. So I just had a interesting thought, what would happen if I fed them a solution of either straight up formalin or formaldehyde. or fed the flowers mixture water with formalin/formaldehyde liquid. To get the chemical to get into the petals of the flower in an attempt to "preserve" the flower head? Thank you for reading, and I look forward to everyones responses and advice!
Great video! I shared it and I usually don't share anything other than memes. 😊 But this was so thorough, I wanted my girls to see the options, how-to's and results. Very nice! You should turn this into a Skill share class.
Why would you put the flowers directly on the book pages? I always used plotting paper or even regular printing paper which absorbs the moisture and doesn't ruin the book. Am I missing something?
Another tutorial mentioned using parchment paper with the book method. Does anyone know if it’s better or worse to sandwich flowers between parchment paper?
Have you ever dried a carnation?I have tried with the silica gel but it shriveled up to nothing. It is my favorite flower and I would really like to be able to preserve some. Just not flattening.
I think I’ve dried a carnation in silica gel! I might suggest leaving it in the silica gel for less time. If it’s shriveling to nothing then that might mean that it’s being dried out too much. Silica gel can totally dry out a flower to nothing basically if you leave it in for too long. So maybe less time! ❤️
I have issue with silica gel 😮, I kept for 2 days and later the gel powder isn't coming off the flower, I m afraid to brush it off, as flower is v delicate . Anyone any idea on how to get away with gel on dried flowers ?

Awww Yaass thank you so much!
i don't even do anything crafty with flowers but the why you explained everything is inspiring!
I dry really small flowers in a book. Than I put them on my nails. Great video as always. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge on drying flowers.
Ommggg that’s such a cool idea!! I love that! Thank you so much! ❤️
Ooo, what a great idea! I bet tiny petals suspended in a clear coat look beautiful!

Have you tried sand or polenta? They both work, just google 🙂
@@chucky6367 I haven’t tried either but, I will definitely give them both a try. Thanks!
Putting the micro flowers in a book was the exact thing I needed to hear. Thanks for doing all the comparisons for us! Excellent video.

does it changes its color?
This is VERY thorough - appreciate the time and effort put into this. Each method is so unique and they have such different personalities
Well done! One of the best tutorials on this subject that I have watched so far and I have watched a lot.
You are so talented and detailed. Also I love that you are honest.
By the way, your energy is contagious ❤

I loved this ALL-IN-ONE refresher. Thank you.
Loved the comparisons at the end, I don't know which are my favorite!
Suuuuper helpful! I’ve tried all those methods except drying upside down but I still got some useful tips so thanks girl xxx
YAY! This totally has me convinced to get a Microfleur! 🥰🌼 So gorgeous!!
Riiight?! They’re so amazing!
So worth it! It’s magical!
Lovely video 💕 thank you 🙏
Why the flowers get mould when I dry them in a book 📕?

Thank you so much for this helpful and interesting video. I just want to know if you could reuse the silica gel.
Thanks
Thanks for this video, as we all need to find the best way of drying.😇

the flowers turned out stunning ... I loved that you were able to explain each way of drying and results! 😍

You could shape some hardware cloth to make a custom basket to help lift them out of the silica.
I've seen all your previous videos of these processes but having them all in one was super cool too! Love to see the variety of outcomes!
Thank you for such a detailed video, I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time! You were spot on & so so helpful!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Im having tulips in my wedding bouquet and I was sooooooooo worried about how they would dry 😅 this was reassuring

silicone first then the dry upside down method... but all are pretty . and method i think would depend on what you have in mind to use them for
I love those methods too! ❤️
Was debating getting a microfleur! Thank you 🙌
In seriously cannot wait to start!!
i love the tulip reminds me of a star
Have you tried preserving leaves, some nice fall colors 😊 ? I think you can use glycerin but it’s been a really long time since I tried them.
I wonder if you can dry them out in a low temp over for a long time, like how some people dry out fruit. Or maybe a dehydrator.
I love this four techniques. So marvelous ❤
Thank you thank you for this very comprehensive video!! Much loveee💗💗
My husband gets me new flowers twice a month for my kitchen island. I want to get a large glass vase/jar to put a few of them in after they have dried. Do you think they would do okay in something like that?
Thanks so much! Question- I was told that after any method of drying, that you have to spray them with a sealer. Is this true??? Thanks
Thank you for all the information and tips! ❤❤❤
Beautiful tutorial! I'm wondering how you store your flowers after they've been dried with silica gel - any tips to share?
I keep mine in a wicker case/picnic basket. And some old boxes with a pretty picture on. Line loosely with tissue paper so i can loosely cover them over

So, which method would you say is best for Gerbera Daisies?
Hi! quick question, can you re-use the silica gel??
So so beautiful. I am very much impress🎉

Hi, I am using the silica gel Powder and notice that the powder leaves dust on the flowers do you have any tips how to remove the dust please?
CAN I USE SELICA GEL CRYSTALS ON FRESH CALI WHITE SAGE LEAVES? Or WHICH METHOD IS BEST????
Would love to see a project with these flowers! 👍🏼🌿🌺🥀🌸🌹🌷
Such a good explanation!

Thanks UA-cam, thank you madwoman ❤🙏🏼
Another tutorial mentioned using parchment paper with the book method. Does anyone know if it’s better or worse to sandwich flowers between parchment paper?
Really great video, thank you 🙏🏽
Have you popped them into a dehydrator?
I wonder going into this video which method suits different types of flower. Like are thicker flowers better in gel crystals etc...
Yes there’s definitely certain methods that don’t do well with certain flowers! I find ones with a lot of moisture to not do well in the microfleur
I think you should try flower pounding a try now.
I'm Loved!!! Amei!
Моё детство❤ мне 26 - пересматриваю все фильмы по 2-3 раза в год. Это как другая вселенная, куда я убегаю от проблем .
Silica gel won hands down! 👍🤗
Love this video. Thank u so much!
What is your method for removing the silica gel crystals that stick to the flowers after they've dried, before placing them in your project?
I usually take a soft makeup brush & gently dust it off!
How do you get the access silca gel off?
Have you ever dried a carnation?I have tried with the silica gel but it shriveled up to nothing. It is my favorite flower and I would really like to be able to preserve some. Just not flattening.
I have done a few, I did a half dry in salt, then half dry upsidedown it shrunk a bit but not nearly as bad I'm sure silica would work as well?
I think I’ve dried a carnation in silica gel! I might suggest leaving it in the silica gel for less time. If it’s shriveling to nothing then that might mean that it’s being dried out too much. Silica gel can totally dry out a flower to nothing basically if you leave it in for too long. So maybe less time! ❤️

Thank you! Great video!
Thank you for this video!!
If a flower is not fully dry (which ever the method) can it sit to air dry at this point? Thank you for your videos! I just found you.
Some can dry but most of the time they probably need to be placed in a book for a day or so
Most flowers will curl up a little bit if it still has moisture in it
@@zabithaluth3527 Thank you! I have a few petals that were not dry and I wasn’t sure if I have to place back in the silica beads.
I think you got your answer from Zabitha! But exactly what they said, in a boon would be best to let it finish drying! ❤️❤️❤️
@@ArtsyMadwoman thanks everyone!

Thank you so much for this video
