    "forcing your beliefs" on your children. you mean raising them? be right back, forcing my kids to learn to read and be polite.

      😂 yes but sometimes some parents are so strict and they will even force some weird beliefs on their children. Like I don't eat onions and garlic so you are not allowed to eat them.... Everything has its limits!
      Specifically when it's related to superstitions and religion.

    • @katelijnesommen
      @katelijnesommen Місяць тому +6

      Yes! I mean, yes, there are parents who force things on their kids and never give them a say in how they want things, and that can definitely be bad. But an integral part of parenting is deciding things for your kids and trying to instil values and habits in them that you think are important. Feeding them in a way that you think is healthy (hopefully supported by some actual evidence or based on credible expertise) is not "forcing them" to do anything.

    • @Shadeadder
      @Shadeadder Місяць тому +3

      forcing your kids to do things is an integral part of parenting. kids are still developing their sense of responsibility and learning how to do necessary things even when they don't want to. i *hated* brushing my teeth as a kid, but my parents would "make me" because i wasn't capable of being self-motivated about it yet.
      also, it's impossible not to instill your kids with your beliefs. every single person has some sort of philosophy about life, existence, and the world around us, and those will naturally dictate how you raise your kids. one of my personal pet peeves are strong-arming atheists who tell me that raising my kids religious is "forcing beliefs upon them", as if raising your kid to be staunch atheists isn't the same thing.

      @@LoveYourself-my9nz some parents don't eat persimmon so then their kids grow up without ever trying persimmon. It's so wrong. And did you know there are families who don't eat cassava or give it to their kids!?

    I agree that it is very easy for young children to understand the concept that when we eat meat, we are killing an animal to do so. I am the 55 year old mother of two adult children, and have discovered your channel just recently because I have always eaten an omnivorous diet, but am now working to drastically reduce, if not eliminate, animal products from my diet for health and ethical reasons. When my children were young, they had an epiphany that meat was "from the body of a dead animal" (in their words), and actually had to come to terms with that realization.
    I also want to say that I really appreciate your channel because I am a very science and logic oriented person, and tend to be turned off by vegan influencers in general. Thank you for being an educational source for me!

    Such creative lunches! Nice, positive video! I grew up as a vegetarian (in an omniverous family). In The Netherlands lunch is so easy, just bread. Just bread with a spread. My school snack was always a piece of fruit (apple, banana or mandarin), my lunch was always sourdough bread with any spread I chose (nutbutter, jam, rinse appelstroop, tahini or cheese). Occasionally we would have a chocolate spread or 'sandwich spread', but that was a treat. Sometimes my mother put a chocolate bar in my bag, which I often even didn't eat. My drink at school: water. Life was so simple. There was food for sale at school, but I did not get pocket money, and I just preferred to eat bread anyway.

    • @emelyhoefer
      @emelyhoefer Місяць тому +1

      I was gonna comment about the bread for lunch. We Germans do this too. We usually just have one warm meal a day and that's the protein heavy one so not having a ton of protein in their lunch doesn't seem like an issue to me as long as the dinner is better with it.

    • @TangoMasterclassCom
      @TangoMasterclassCom Місяць тому

      @@emelyhoefer Totally agree with you! Good wholegrain breads (German breads are the best) contain protein, and so do nutbutters and seedbutters. My dinners were lots of veggies, whole grains, legumes, and tofu or Quorn. Breakfast was a bowl of müesli with nuts and dried fruits. I ate like this my whole childhood, and I became healthy and strong. I was vegetarian, so for a vegan diet you would have to pay a bit more attention, because I ate cheese every day, and I also ate sometimes egg or dairy (but not that much).

    So I have a question, wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Recently had a doctor tell me that were concerned about not exposing my baby to the top allergens. So they are extremely insistent on me giving my baby fish, dairy and eggs to avoid future allergies. Their reasoning is because ''they aren't going to want to be vegan when they are older'' basically was saying that I shouldn't force them to be vegan because they aren't going to be in the future. I thought i was going to get the normal "you cant be healthy being vegan'' speech, but instead I got this. Has anyone else gotten this one? If so how do you even respond to this?

      just dont listen to your doctor's advice, they will more than likely remain vegan as people dont really compromise on their basic ethics and morals they are raised with that often, the allergen issues are only ever going to be an issue if they eat those products (which they wont because they are vegan)
      Honestly i wouldn't listen to the doctor, their logic doesnt make sense and its based on "what if" which is highly unlikely to happen.
      Another thing is ethical vegans have an extremely small turnover rate in general, again i wouldn't worry about it, just teach them why hurting animals is wrong and teach them the connection between what they eat and the animals they come from, just raise them vegan in general and you will be fine.

    Most schools here (Scotland/UK) are nut free environments which eliminates many good vegan protein sources from packed lunches. My children had cereal bars confiscated and everything. I work in schools but can choose to eat off site which the pupils can’t. So my wife and I have an 8 month old, and we’ve discussed this since we currently live in a rural community in North Carolina(not near any city over 30k people). She’ll be raised on a vegan lifestyle and going to church with us. We’ll have those important conversations with her periodically when we believe she is able to understand, and at her own level so she can make a well informed decision. Obviously a conversation with a 5 year old about why we don’t eat chicken is different than the true complexity of morality. Like most parents, we’re trying to set her up for the future.

    You are so right about kids. I’m not even currently vegetarian but when my daughter asked why we have plant milks and I explained the factory farming process of taking away babies from dairy cows to keep them producing milk, she decided she’d never have animal products again. That was 4 years ago. I never pushed her and I started eating meat again before that, but if you explain what animals go through and you give an alternative, most kids will decide on their own. For my part, I was vegetarian most of my life and will probably get there again, but I’m very proud of my kiddo, especially because I don’t even exemplify for her what she’s decided to be. She decided completely on her own that animals feelings matter and took action. An addendum, I do know the difference between vegan and vegetarian but I was never personally vegan. I do think it’s much better to be vegan but I never was.

    I'm not saying that raising a child vegan is bad perse, but I just don't buy the "It's easy for them" line. When I was in elementary school, there was no cafeteria, but there was a delivery service that brought (chocolate) milk cartons, which I remember the school insisted you'd drink, unless you had a "good" reason like allergy. And I'm sure there were some people whose parents were vegetarian/vegan, but I never heard thar
    And besides the school insisting, on school trips, it was pretty much a guarantee we'd get fries with mayo, I never liked mayo, but was looked at weird or saying I didn't want mayo those 4-5 years at least
    So I'd definitely say that it's possible that kids feel pressured to partake to not be weird or even bullied

The trick is accepting that when they become autonomous adults, they may diverge and we need to respect that. But if we were sharing and not brain washing in the first place, we are probably already not going to lose our minds if they choose differently because we are healthy people. You can be a healthy church goer (gasp) just as much as much as you can be a healthy vegan (I’m talking mentally here, not criticizing mock meats😉).
