Dear sir, i would like to thank you for these arrow-making movies. I have seen them multiple times and for me they are the basis of arrow making. I realy appreciate the time you have spend on making these. best regards, Gregory
Fantastic series, the giveaway at the end grabbed my attention even though I had already looked that you posted this three years ago :) Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Very informative. You can't help but to watch,he provides all the steps to do what he is showing and everyone who builds or wants to should watch these videos, He covers every step. Very helpful and addicting. This is by far the most informative set of videos I have watched on the internet. I want to thank you for sharing this information at the risk of losing customers .Wish I lived closer. Thanks for sharing in detail.
Been making my own arrows for almost 20'ish years now. Your Vids are great! I've had a couple of "face palm" moments thinking "I should have been doing that for the past 20'ish years! " lol! I won't miss an episode! Thanks for posting these!
Hey Andy I’ve begun my journey building wood arrows and I’ve used your videos as a guide. If you get the time, make us a video on fixing mistakes in the process, such as dried bubbles on Crown and when you can touch up clear coat issues from sanding mistakes.
Thank you so much for making all these very informative videos about wood arrows. It has come in a great time in my life as I’m making the change from carbon to wood. You have taught me so much and learning as I go everyday. I have even placed a couple of orders on your web site from tools to parts needed for making wood arrows. You have done a fantastic job explaining and illustrating for someone like me to understand again thank you sir
Also have a question about the swirl can you use water base paint to do the swirl on your crown dip. Like if I have a white crown dip and wanted to do yellow swirl can I use water base paint to apply the swirl thanks in advance
Andy, let down a little bit about the swirls but that’s a good thing now that I feel I can do it! Haha thanks for all your help thus far and great videos.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Arrow building is definitely something I can get into. Love the vids! Keep them coming! Addictive Archery Rules!!
I'm new to the arrow making world. Definitely excited to get more knowledgeable. Thank you for such a great video/series. They are very informative. Size: M, Green .
Great video, thanks for showing us how you dip your crowns. We weren't let down by swill just a very clever and effective way ( l bet most of us never thought about doing that way ) and a brilliant outcome . Thanks for sharing , Happy New Year to you and your family 👍👍👍
It is year 2020 so I missed out on the free shirt but it is still well worth the knowledge. I really appreciate you taking the time and sharing your skills and knowledge. It makes you a credit to your art.
I love those swirl ones would be really cool to see ones in green or blue to give it a Celtic look (I’m from Scotland) got all these book marked for later as I really want to try marking my own arrows later this year.
Thanks again for a informative vid! Hopefully Spine estimates will get covered..Setting a Bitz up for offset and helical the correct way may be very useful. Iron is broken lol
Cody Greenwood I did have a Bitzenberg video planned but it will not be in the fletching video. Just to much to cover. The spine video is also been outlined I’ll shoot that one after this series. Keep the ideas coming.
@@addictivearchery1123 hey buddy i also make arrow but im here in the east ,, and here a little tip i found , say your painting arrows and the phone rings or , what ever ,,, put your brush and paint in the fridge , and it stays and wont dry , put it back out and your ready to go , ,,, you can keep your brushes in their colors until you finished your run in the fridge for ever or even keep some brushes for certain colors only , ,,, you might use lack every day ,, so just keep the black brush in the fridge when ever and its alway ready to go ... hope this helps buddy have a great day
Thanks so much for doing the giveaway. I am subscribed. I have learn so much about making arrows. I'm crazy and have tried to make my shafts as well from birch. I got the wood from a place called Sensenich where I used to work. They make wooden propellers. I am having problems after hand planing the square stock round getting them smooth. I'm guessing you may not know how to do that as it looks like you get all your shafts pre done. All these other tips though are awesome and will really help my arrows look amazing. Thanks.
I was wondering how to do that and it was a huge disappointment to learn it was easy, I had hoped it would take lots of expensive equipment to make cool strips. Awesome series!
Nicely presented Andy . I know that the hand is quicker than the eye. You address your stroke 2/3 times from your 9” mark towards the nock and yet it appears as though you only did it once ??
I used the Crest lac white to crown dip my arrows. I did 3 coats of Dalys profin on the arrows before dipping. The white Crest lac dried with spider cracks on it. Do you know why this happened?
Couple of questions! Do arrows have to be dipped in order to be crowned? Can the crown just be hand pained on the way you pained on the stain in previous video? Also, if a bare shaft was stained first, can it be crowned or does there need to be a clear coat in between? Thanks!
Trad Bow Newbie depends on what crown dip your using. You can paint the shaft raw like the stain. If your going to dip it in a thin water paint like I demonstrate you need to seal them first. If you dip them raw it will raise the grain of the wood, when you try and sand then smooth you will remove some of the paint. I recommend you get a wood dowel from the local hardware store to experiment with.
I noticed in one of your videos you said you don't like Crest Lac for crown dipping. What issues did you have? I dipped some test carbon shafts and they look good. I have had problems with some of their cresting paints i.e. yellow, silver. Can I use True North paints over a Crest-Lac crown? Thank you.
Crest Lac is too brittle and will chip over time. It also was prone to fish eye if you are not carful and cause bubbles in the dip tube while mixing. I never tried TN on Crest Lac.
Hi, thanks for sharing your knowledge, really appreciate it. Haven't build so many wooden arrows so far but the more clips I'm watching from you, I start to get hooked to that 😉👍 I really liked the last sort of tribal snaky technique. Do you have any pictures of a finished arrow of that kind somewhere? Oh and by the way, I'll choose the GREEN Tshirt in XXL 😂
Lutz Schneider thanks for watching till the end. If you got to my website and look at my gallery page you will see a lot of finished arrows there. I will use that same arrow to demonstrate cresting techniques in the next episode.
Randy McVey I crown dip and crest a lot of carbon arrows. I’ll make up a video on those soon. Biggest mistake people make is not prepping the shaft correctly.
@@addictivearchery1123 I just bought some True North Carbon Primer from 3 Rivers Archery for arrow prepping of my carbon arrows. Have you ever used this product?
Great innovation with the swirl application. Just started back into trying out woodies. Thanks so much for sharing your methods, really love the way woodies launch and watching the flight. Please keep the vids coming. Question, would you reccomend type of shafting you personally prefer and perhaps a hint as to best supplier? Thanks again!
hey thank you for all your great work 🙌🏼 one question... is there a layer of clearcoat on the shaft befor you put on the swirl? love that designe😍 BIG FAN FROM AUSTRIA
I have been scratching my head with your swirl pattern for months on Instagram. Thanks for sharing all your trade secrets! Beautiful arrows. Question for ya, do you tune wood shafts similar to carbon, or are they less susceptible to length cutting and/or point weight?
The same concepts apply but I can get you close enough on spine that some minor changes to your brace height or changing the thickness of your side plate material is all that is needed. Carbon arrows have a very big gap in spine and that why people struggle with finding the right length and or having to change point weight. As soon as I'm done with this series I'll make a video on dynamic spine and arrow tuning. Thanks for watching.
I have been struggling with the swirls could be that my fingers are just a little too big for doing the swirls or it is the gloves I am using I have split the gloves when putting them on when doing the swirls I have done some without gloves some I did with a little water all sorts of ways can't seem to get them perfectly right yet but will keep working on them
i have tried the swirl thing on arrows could not get it to work properly it ended up looking like a tortoise effect colors not how I wanted it to look. the only time I got it anywhere near right was when I wet the arrow slightly but it does not look right I have watched the videos a dozen time and more is there anything you have missed out when doing the swirls that were missed when making the movie clips
Hi, when You crown dip (with white paint in the vídeo) is one time enough? Or you must sand it and drip it again? Thank you greetings from Bariloche Argentina
A drop of black will stop the yellowing at least with the white. I haven't tried it with other colors. I have white crown dipped arrows 5 years old that still haven't yellowed.
Excuse my 2nd comment..With regards to your swirl design ((Very nice)),, I convinced myself that you made at least one stroke beginning/end and the last shaft it was four . There is no way that you could overlap precisely 4 passes without a shadow affect.. And yet it appears you only made one pass..LOL Help me out please..What is the name of that brown stain ..(Company)? Whether it be your Quakens or my New England white birch , I’m thinking that color/design over a very light brown crown with white feathers 🪶 would be fantastic in elk country..A slight crest design optional.. my opinion only.. Trust me I got your back..Thank you and for your personal fb

Hi there! Great video. I was wondering where I can get those dip tubes? Are they available for sale somewhere?
You can find them here.

Great video on adding swirls. What adhesive works best for your fletching with the oil based paint swirls?
Ron Heidebrecht Duco works the best for both water based and oil based.
Pro stuff!

Hi,
Thank you for sharing the secrets of your craft with us.
I was wondering if, aside from by brush or dip, can you also spray the paint on?
Yes you can spray paint the arrows, I try and avoid spraying because I always seam to get runs in the finish.
I've got a whole bunch of Liquitex acrylic tube artist canvas style paints. Will those work for heavy areas like the crown?
Yes they will. If it is leaving brush strokes, thin it little with clean water.
Couple of questions! Do arrows have to be dipped in order to be crowned? Can the crown just be hand pained on the way you pained on the stain in previous video? Also, if a bare shaft was stained first, can it be crowned or does there need to be a clear coat in between? Thanks!

Hi, when You crown dip (with white paint in the vídeo) is one time enough? Or you must sand it and drip it again? Thank you greetings from Bariloche Argentina
You can do the same sort of thing with the brush wrap the brush in a plastic bag it will keep the brush soft for you 🏴🤠
How did you keep the lines straight when you put the stain on by hand?
I use a gel stain and turn the arrow by hand trying to keep the line as straight as I can.
A drop of black will stop the yellowing at least with the white. I haven't tried it with other colors. I have white crown dipped arrows 5 years old that still haven't yellowed.
A drop of black, where? In the finish?
Dumb question but I need to ask it. Do you crown dip/cresting the arrows and then you use sealer or the opposite?
I seal the arrows 4 times and then crown dip and crest. I then seal the entire arrow again 4 times.
Do you clear dip over the swirls?
I always clear dip over the swirls and cresting.
So when you painted the crown on was the shaft sealed or raw?
Sealed for crown dips. Raw when hand painting.
