Beautiful arrows - I really liked the scrolling black lines in the fletched area with the stain - it looks great and good to see someone else that takes so much pride in keeping this skilful tradition alive - keep up the good work - regards - Dale
Great video Andy , this series has been a fantastic insight into making arrows especially for me being new to traditional archery. I Now have a better understanding of the skill and time that goes into making arrows , like the White and Burgundy-- the Black and Yellow in fact all the ones shown in this video ( 😀 l know that don't help ). You have very steady hands when painting the shafts was that always the case or while leaning the trade did you make lots of mistakes. Thanks for sharing Andy this fantastic series l appreciate the time and effort you put into your video's 👍👍👍
I have gotten a lot better over time. I had some really good mentors that helped me along the way. Thats a big reason why I'm doing this series. Thanks for taking the time to leave a message.
Really looking forward to the upcoming fletching tutorial. I love my bitzenburger. But perhaps not utilizing the various adjustments to get it REALLY dialed in!
MrFather9 thanks for watching. The fletching video is coming up in EP 9. It will be an overview. I’m going to make a detailed Bitz video on how I set them up separate from this series. I can easily talk about and set up the Bitz for 30 mins plus. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and watching.
I am curious whether or not you think your paints or do you just use them as they are. Also, I love the white and burgundy for the aesthetics. They are beautiful! But I also love the ones that have that design that reminds me of African safari. How did you do that? Beautiful! All of them are.
It’s taken me quite a while to locate the artist that thinks as I do . Pleased to know you. I’m 87 and have had a bow in my hand since I was 10 years old. I’ll stay away from accomplishments but will say in the fifties I had the pleasure to shoot with Howard Hill.. My arrow making is sub par to your work .. Mainly because of my archaic cresting machine and brushwork.. A chemist from BOHNING told me about flattening your brush out for lining.. It works but I’m not too pleased with their paint .. Too thick a paint with little viscosity..I’d like to try testors ..could you please recommend a liner brush #2 ??..with nylon, sable, etc . Congratulations..you are very articulate and an excellent teacher..I’m subscribed
How much weight does the paint add to the back of the arrow? If you need more weight FOC, do you find that you have to use a heavier tip? Or am I just way overthinking this? :-) Beautiful work, btw. Very inspiring.
I clear dip the arrow 4 times to seal it up. I then crown dip paint and crest. After the paint cures and dries, I clear dip over that 4 more times to make sure it's all sealed up and will last.
Did I miss the video on sealing? Dip or brush on? Also, I don't need ANOTHER time consuming hobby, so if you could just make the whole process super intimidating that'd be great.
Great series!
Your level of craftmanship is beyond belief.
I like it all man... I've watched all the episodes at least 3 times, Thanks again for sharing
Works of art brother.
Man! Preciate the great tutorial how to get perfect lines on crested arrows. That is the best cresting i have seen.
You are a master craftsman!
Excellent series. It now becomes apparent why good trad wooden arrows are worth their cost. Good work.
My gods! The White / burgundy /silver batch! GORGEOUS!

Hi Robert, I’ve used both. Bohning and Testors. In my opinion, True North is a better paint.
Are you adding some water for those acrylic??

Good vid Andy . Call you soon. Mark Louisiana
So wait. You’ll dip clear over that if you use water based? Looked like you were painting over a clear coat in the video
I clear dip the arrow 4 times to seal it up. I then crown dip paint and crest. After the paint cures and dries, I clear dip over that 4 more times to make sure it's all sealed up and will last.
@@fjtoyman1 you use a different clear dip to go over the white, correct?
Yes. Profin will yellow the white. I use a clear sealer from True North.
Do you suggest a specific brand of Brush? I searched your website and could not find any that you offered.
Cody Greenwood I’ll try and get some brushes loaded up on the website soon.
Still here? A question: is it oil-based over acrylic okay, or acrylic over oil okay?
Mike Burke I dip acrylic over oil all the time. Just scuff the oil finish after curing with a green 3M pad.
Addictive Archery Thanks!
Outstanding, with all the time you put into each arrow it must be hard to charge enough to make minimum wage.
Turnstyles It is a true labor of love. I won’t get rich, but so far I’m having fun.
Good for you. Most folks don't have something like that in their life.
Did I miss the video on sealing? Dip or brush on? Also, I don't need ANOTHER time consuming hobby, so if you could just make the whole process super intimidating that'd be great.
LMAO! I'd be happy to save you some time and make them for you. The episode on sealing is coming next. Thanks for watching.
