Way more interesting than the weather channel right now. We are so glad we followed your channel and visited most of the places you have experienced. They will obviously be forever changed. Stay safe. See you on the other side.
Exactly. We are so grateful to be spared from the worst of this storm, but so saddened by the damage that is being done to some of the places south of here. They will surely recover in time, but it's going to be a long, hard process.
I also have several family members in the area too. I’ve been watching knowing so many people down there and it’s my favorite part of Florida. Watching closely from chilly Cincinnati.
As long as I've lived here, I have never evacuated(not in a flood zone), never boarded up, I don't have shutters, and I don't have hurricane proof windows. I don't have a generator either, so when/if the power goes out I just grin and bear it. I do prepare, getting gas, bottle water, gator-aid, and non-perishable food, etc....stuff I would normal consume anyways Other than that....just pray !
You are definitely a true Floridian, Greg 😆 I don't think we are quite on your level yet, but I have a feeling that with each hurricane we go through we'll be less and less worried about the next one.
I live in Indian so to get to learn what it is like to live in other states during a hurricane is really cool. I hope you guys and the ones you love our safe and god bless you
Thanks so much. We lucked out here in St. Pete (as this area somehow always seems to do) and we saw very little damage from Ian compared to some of the cities further to our south.
It sure has. We will certainly be careful as this storm is still potentially dangerous here in St Pete, but obviously nothing compared to an hour south of here. Thank you so much for watching.
Thanks so much, Jenny. We were very fortunate here in St. Pete and made it through the night without even losing power. Damage in the St. Pete area appears to be minimal and we have a beautiful sunny day today.
I was visiting my friend foe my birthday when Hurricane Irma came through. The prep was crazy. She’s an hour inland from the gulf but her sister is on a canal ooff the gulf and are evacuating to my friends house.
Looks like we lucked out in Tampa Bay. Bay News 9 has said we seriously lucked out as the trajectory has moved further south, but rain flooding will still be a major issue. We're hunkering down, hope you guys stay safe. 💐🥰
Yes, we got lucky here in Tampa Bay for sure. That said, we're still expecting some strong winds, a LOT of rain/flooding, and probably some power outages. We hope you and your family stay safe as well!
I have also been checking in on Hubbard's Marina and Dylan has been posting some interesting videos of what is happening at the John's pass marina and the LOW tide in that area. Again, be safe you two!
I (Skylar) was just down by the pier and the water was extremely low there as well. I'll go check out Dylan's videos soon. I'm sure they are interesting!
I'm a little behind on your videos. I completely understand your decision to stay in your apartment. If I wasn't forced to evacuate my hotel on Clearwater Beach, I probably would have chosen to stay. I was high up so I felt safe (although I didn't consider the foundation). I moved to a hotel outside the evacuation zone on Tuesday but, while I was checking in, they received notice that they were evacuating! I was up until 10pm Monday night trying to find a hotel so imagine my frustration that I had to go through all that trouble again. I don't have a car so I've been relying on taxi services (both services I used have been great!). Jaime, I also understand your questioning your decision. I got an offer to get a ride to West Palm Beach and even my brother from over 1,000 miles away was trying to get me out of the state (and even out of the country, lol!) but I stubbornly wanted to stay as close to Tampa as possible. I was able to find a safe place but it was a struggle. I hope you guys are doing well. I'm going to watch your other two videos because I'm curious about the conditions in St. Pete. I'm hoping to get to go to the beach before I leave on Monday. I was going to try Ben T Davis Beach but I called their Parks and Rec Department and they are still cleaning up and won't open until Monday.
We are so glad to hear from you, Tonya. We're relieved that you are safe and were at least able to ride the hurricane out in a hotel (and not a shelter) and to find good transportation leading up to the hurricane. That said, we're still so sorry that you had to go through all this during your vacation. We really hope you still do get a chance to visit some of the Gulf Beaches before you return home. They are all in very good shape and are open today as far as I am aware. I would anticipate that the vast majority of the businesses on the barrier islands are up and running today as well. We really hope you are able to finish your vacation on a high note! You've already experienced some of the worst Florida has to offer, so it can only get better from here!
@@Explorcation I was telling one of my drivers that I was thinking about moving to the area and he told me I was going through the initiation process now, lol! I shouldn't laugh because there are people who have lost so much 😭 I've been able to keep in touch with my family and friends and it makes them feel good that I've been positive throughout this whole situation. It's like that saying that says something along the lines of, you don't know how strong you can be until you have no choice.
@@tawnykc83 yes, definitely an initiation... which from one we can tell you passed with flying colors! But yeah, the impact we've received from this hurricane pales in comparison to the folks down in Fort Myers who have lost homes, businesses, etc... so it's hard to get too down about a negatively impacted vacation (we were supposed to be in the Caribbean now) when others are dealing with so much worse. On a brighter note, we've heard that businesses like Hubbard's Marina are already back to offering their tours today, so things on the islands appear to be back to normal (or at least close to normal).
Stay safe guys and thanks for this update... enjoy the pineapple rum, it will help pass the time. I'm a little confused though. We don't get hurricanes in Australia, instead we get cyclones. I was always told the difference was either formed over water or land. As your hurricane is sitting over water coming to you, was it formed over land, went out to sea and now coming back? I'm not one for meteorology..lol
Hurricanes definitely do originate over water. Cyclones here are more synonymous with tornados, which are much small but more intense storms which do generally originate over land. But I honestly have no idea what the difference between an Australian cyclone and a US hurricane is... perhaps nothing. Thank you very much for the wishes. As of now all is still good (we still have electricity), and yes, the rum will help pass the time when the power goes out.
@@Explorcation ok... I had to Google and after some conflicting data it seems the difference is only where they are formed. Makes it easy 😁 Nice to see you still have electricity and enjoying the rum
@@Explorcation I feel their pain...1 did see some footage of some of the flooding. It was only 6 months ago we were blocked into our home with flooding and 100 times in our neighbourhood went under
Thanks, Chris. We lucked out and never even lost power in our apartment. We do have a generator, but thankfully never even had to use it. We were prepared for a few days of extreme discomfort (with no AC), so we are feeling very fortunate!
Yeah, those blueberries were definitely genetically modified 😅 Thanks for the well wishes. St. Pete fared extremely well during Ian and we are incredibly thankful.
The wind/rain really varies by the minute as the outer storm bands pass through. One minute there's not much wind/rain, and the next it's extremely windy. That said, we haven't experienced anything much worse than your typical Florida thunderstorm yet. We're quite sure that will change within the next hour or two though!
We are on the 5th floor. During Ian, we lived in a building that was not in an evac zone, so even those living on the 1st floor didn't have to evac. When considering places to live, we would recommend looking at the evac zones floodmaps.pinellascounty.org/pages/evacuation-zone It depends on elevation and the risk of storm surge/flooding.

We never even lost power (meaning Jamie never even missed any work)... so we didn't get to deep into the pineapple run. But we did enjoy a little!
