Just wanted to point something out. First of all, my profile image is funny.
On the second hand, eSport is, to me, a real sport. Not in a physical way, but in the fact that if you want to win a match (a game here), you have to use all the skills you have, alone or with your mates. In sports, I'll take the exemple of football right here, 11 guys do their best TOGETHER to win the match against 11 other people who are doing their best too. They use tactics and skills that enable them to win. They earn a lot of money when they do it in a pro way. In eSport (I'll take the exemple of League of Legends) 5 guys are trying their best to win against 5 other guys who try their best too. They use tactics, work together, and prove their skill level every day to every one (as in football).
Now, pointing that out, I just don't know how eSport is not recognized as a real Sport in most countries. I can understand some point of views about the fact that there's no physical activity in playing video games. Well try to train about 3 or 4 hours (which is not a lot for pro players), doing your BEST to win, trying all those moves and stuff. You'll see, you'll be kinda tired too.

There has been an increase in the application of the term 'sport' to a wider set of non-physical challenges such as electronic sports, especially due to the large scale of participation and organised competition, but these are not widely recognised by mainstream sports organisations. So this is a sport. This! Is! ESPORT!

Professional Gamers are athletes. Look up athlete in the dictionary. Football is a game. League of legends is a game. baseball is a game, dota is a game. They all have pro leagues sanctioned by the US government that grants visas to players from over seas who are scouted by team owners/managers. (yes eSport teams have owners and managers) This is called an athletic visa that you can only get if you are playing a professional sport supported by your government. oh and by the way, "people don't seem to like it" over 100 million people LOVE IT. As supported by logistical data reviewed this year in 2013 that eSports as a whole industry is a muti-billion dollar power house out earning the film and music industry combined. ~~ Everything I said is all fact that can be looked up and fact checked. ((this was part of my reply to someone who didnt know anything about eSPORTS))

Living your life through virtual reality and living on planet earth is to different things. This is coming from a person that played video games all summer up Intill the 7th grade. The rush you feel when you play a game isn't the same as when you speed down a mountain or climb up it with a bike,or almost
Getting hit by a car, running from dogs, hopping fences ect. Esports is not a sport, and professional gamers are not athletes.

+Wubby penguin They are not athletes, that i totally agree with. but its just as much a sport as chess and billiards are , which are recognized as sports by the olympic commission. they are in no way shape or form physical sports, but they are sports nonetheless. i dont prefer either of the kinds of sports, i enjoy watching all of them. I can see how Esport is a sport and i welcome it.

+Wubby penguin um actually in 2013 the US government issued esports players athlete visas www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/07/14/the-u-s-now-recognizes-esports-players-as-professional-athletes/#2715e4857a0b1d21e779691d and before you say thry're just sitting around doing nothing useful for humanity well how exactly does kicking a ball around a field useful

    • @masteroziniii2486
      @masteroziniii2486 9 років тому

+Azuer & Ttw um I wasn't saying the act of playing video games is useful for humanity I was just comparing it to the act of kicking a ball around a field and asking how that is useful for humanity.
of course esports teams have been raising money for charity just as sports teams do the same thing.
also the idea that all gamers are fat nerds in the basement is completely wrong and that way of thinking is VERY out of date because i'm so skinny my family has actually told me to gain some more weight.

Does anyone understand that chess is a sport and you sit there and move pieces. But it is more than that, the strategies used are crucial to the games' elements and that being said, people saying that sitting and 'clicking a few buttons' is 'not a sport' then why the hell is chess a sport? You people need to understand that this is what is happening now, you can't stop it from happening and you should accept that the term 'sport' is changing.

I think we shouldn't care about if it's a sport or not ! It's just a fucking name... You can call this Competitive Gaming if you want... The name won't change what '' esport '' is... Just one thing to say : Nowadays '' esport '' is a big business and it will grow very well in the future.
People who are crying about a name are just dumbass and they just don't want to see the reality of the esport.
Just in case for all dumbass, a gamer is not necessarily fat, without a life, and without a brain.
I love the esport, vidéo game, and i'm actually in sports study ( STAPS in france ), and I think i'm better in sport than a lot of people who are saying '' Go out doing sport '' or '' Gamers are fat '' here.
People have to evolve. Open your mind, maybe in ten, fifhteen or twenty years ''e-sport'' will be the new football on television. It's the road that takes esport nowadays, and it's just a question of time and turnover of generation. Vidéo game has to enter in the culture of the majority and it will take a long time. But it's on a very good way.
    Sorry for bad english.

You combine 'Game' + 'Competitiveness' = Sports. If people think sport is only 'physical',surely they never heard about 'Mind Sports'. Chess, Bridge, Go are considered legal sports (mind sports).
The main issue is to find balance among the e-Sports players between their life in e-Sports also their body fitness level.
Obviously you cannot compete in e-Sports if you are sick / not fit, true?. You never know in the future, e-Sports will also require physical element, because of the innovation of gaming technology.

Chess is actually classed as a real sport. Why call golf a real sport? They dont get sweaty and they dont need to be in super good shape to play. For example, One who plays a video game at pro level has higher stress levels than a pro footballer due to the pressure when using your brain instead of your body. I can guarantee you that a pro basketball player will have it as hard when playing a video game as a gamer has when he plays basketball.

Actually now that you mention it Chess is a sport lmao... It was declared a sport by an Olympic committee; tough to argue against that.
As such, the precedence has already been set for intellectual-based sports to be given attention and respect. League of Legends and DotA 2 are a couple to gain this notoriety within the Sports world and even if you're not happy about it it's here to stay.
If you don't like it, that's too bad for you; there are literally millions of people that love eSports.

a definition by the oxford dictionary. sport: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
Video gaming, my kind sir, is by that definition clearly a sport.

This is SO NERDY and GEEKY!! It can't and will never be should be considered a sport at all!! EEW!! I mean I like to play FIFA competitively but I'd rather have skills of Ronaldo(soccer player), shots of Ibra, dribble like messi, and finish like Benzema!!
I mean this is GREAT, but why live Virtual if we are supposed to live REAL!! I know all of you guys have your statistics and proves, but are you guys SERIOUS!! It's awfully disgusting!!! This video makes me wanna love the NOW and hate the disgusting FUTURE!! GUYS LETS JUST GET REAL!!!

    Search sports defenition in wikipedia:
SportAccord uses the following criteria, determining that a sport should:
    1) have an element of competition
    2) be in no way harmful to any living creature
    3) not rely on equipment provided by a single supplier (excluding proprietary games such as arena football)
    4) not rely on any 'luck' element specifically designed in to the sport
You dont need physical exertion for it to be considered a sport. times have changed since the middle ages.

Watching ocelote crying makes me think that should be hard to lose like that when u have the hand in your game, and kinda feel bad for him and his team. I Already had tons of emotions watching stream, it's just awesome when u see the pro players charing their emotions with the world.. Someday i hope to be there! E-SPORTS 4ever

Most people think eSports is just sitting at home and playing video games. And a real sport is like playing football where there is physical necessity. What people don't understand is that when you have the physical capability, you are able to perform at an elite level and make a living off of it. With eSports, you must reply only on your methodical thinking. You cannot be better than an opponent, but counter his strategy and have a great communication with your team in order to secure victory.

So far I remember first tournament that was officialy organized was a Quake torunament, where the main award was Quake creator John's Carmack Ferrari. So a FPS game started it all.
I'm a great fan of SC2 and I think nowdays sc2 has the biggest amount of tournaments along with LoL, but fps games are the ones that made it happen.
Don't u dare as a fellow esports fan forget about that :)
