The only other movie that approaches this movie in existential darkness is "The Counselor", written by Cormac McCarthy and directed by Ridley Scott. Pitt is in it also. Not for the faint of heart.
One of the things I love is finding out the killer is Kevin Spacey because his name is never revealed in the opening credits. He is such a good actor putting his personal stuff aside. Another movie with an incredible twist ending is Arlington Road and no one reacts to it. I highly suggest you do. Even if it means having to purchase it because I’m not sure that it’s streamable.
Another movie by Fincher worth watching is "The Game". A movie with a twist worthy of The Sixth Sense. It's also Michael Douglas' second choice for favourite role.
There was actually a head made for inside the box. It was used in another movie but telling you which one would be a small spoiler for the beginning of it. If you want to know what movie it is as it's not a huge spoiler because her character dies near the beginning of the movie.
Hi Carol. Love your reactions. Ponder this though - when Detective William Somerset replied to the police captain that he will "be around" it was confirmation that he was still retiring. Considering that the captain knew not to expect him to be clocking in. Somerset was just acknowledging that he wasn't necessarily packing it up and fleeing the city. There was No great epiphany on how he could make a change in that city - only regrets; hence his response to say give Mills everything that he needs. He regretted that he couldn't get to Detective Mills to make him understand the depth of depravity he's witnessed, and how NOT to open himself up to vulnerability that, as happened - could be devastating. This unfortunate incident likely compounded Somerset's Cynicism, but due to his stoic desensitization won't effect his outlook or actions one way or another.
