    When you switched to the van turbo you probably changed the size of the exhaust turbine housing, on vans they’re generally a 1.15A/R that is going to absolutely kill spool up. Your stock superduty 7.3 turbine housing is generally .84A/R sometimes 1.00A/R

    The turbo rotating assembly must be balanced.

    You need to balance the whole thing once you installed the Compressor wheel on the turbo and then put the Compressor housing on with new gasket/liquidgasket and instal the turbo on the car. Also if you don't tune it afterwards you won't really gain anything from it other than faster spool up.

    Seemed really slow. Did the wheel kill power? Don't trust what the eBay ad says. That turbo must be rebalanced as a unit.

    I just did my buddies 7.3 the other day. Riffraff diesel though. Great quality. I love riffraffs products. But .. What a pain. Miss my 7-3 but so glad I got my cummins. So easy to work on

      DanielPats1228, I never bought a 7.3 to work on, I'm sorry that's why you bought a cummins.

    • @MrMsMexican
      @MrMsMexican 6 років тому

      Idk why people say it's too hard to work on a 7.3 It's not that bad a cummins is only easy because it's a 1 wire setup and it's not a v8

      How's the riff raff working for ya?

    • @markrich3271
      @markrich3271 6 років тому +2

      DIEhardHD Cummins are easier because its a straight 6 vs a v8 . That and some older diesel have complicated unneeded injection systems. The cummins has everything just right there . One exhaust manifold and everything in the middle. Very simple and when its time to mod them like compounds there is allot of room for everything. I own 2 cummins a 12v and a 24v. I love turbo V8s though. I currently have a forged turbocharged Gen1 SBC w/ gen3 ecm and electronics.

    You buy duarability and strength with stock billet compressor wheels. For extra performance I would recommend an extended tip design billet wheel. If more performance is is the goal, no machining needed, unless you increase O.D.. also . Nice Rig , love my 5.9.

      feels a little faster on spool up and seems to hold power up top unlike the stock turbo falling off power wise im going to do a better video. but first impression if you can get a van turbo cheap its worth it btw i have $400 in the turbo and the billet wheel total van turbos seem to sell cheap on ebay

      @@MotorNubs If you think thats bad, try doing the pedestal O rings, glow plugs, oil galley plugs, oil cooler seals, and thermostat upgrade. then also cleaning half a concrete plant worth of set solid rocks and dirt out of the valley, and off the rocker cover bolts to get it all apart in one session of repairs. I just did mine and hated every minute of about 12 hours by the time i was done. Luckily the only thing that dripped after was the thermostat housing. I didn't know the water pump flange was slightly warped and it showed with the update housing.I Should of just siliconed it the first time to be sure. I guess it could be worse my buddy had a newer truck in with a plugged oil cooler, the cab was off to do it L.O.L.

  • @onelove8810001

    Waisted money a billet wheel will only give a few hp and torque maybe like 15 to 25 . Not worth it .
    Buy a 62 through 66 mm and have some fun . To hell with a wheel . That’s like buy a box rubbers and putting it on after you fuck her lol pointless .
    Great vid enjoy your diesel brother as we all love ours .

    Ok, for everyone pretending to speak turbo: all garrett based parts are individually balanced. That's how you can swap wheels. Everything is balanced independently, and thus, maintains balance when assembled. It's like they thought ahead... like engineers making things that spin 100000rpms.
    Please, think me a liar, but actually prove it to yourself. A fool will just tell themselves you have to balance it bolted togeder like a smallblocksheberlay! Them new fangled turbos are just like my smallblocksheberlay!!
    ...no they are not...

    • @wizardindustriesusa

      I’m quite certain the wheel itself was not from Garrett..

  • @jeremyjoy08

    I changed my stock wheel 2 wicked wheel, and never removed turbo from the truck. Just remove compressor housing, spin old wheel off with impact. Install new wheel with impact on low. Reinstall housing etc... Ready for surge free towing.

  • @bdollery55
    @bdollery55 6 років тому +4

    no wheel is just a drop in no matter what the manufacture says. you need to balance the whole turbo as an assembly with the new wheel not rely on the fact that yes the billet wheel has been balanced. but thats only self balanced. not balanced with the shaft and turbine wheel
    proper thing to do would be assemble with the billet wheel and have whole core re balanced

      You’re a idiot bro, they come pre balanced and it only requires hand tight. You’re thinking to much, it’s a easy upgrade. Don’t listen to this snowman!

    • @cekiert

      The professional turbo rebuilding industry does vsr balancing on the complete rotating assembly. I'd suggest getting a chra or complete turbo. Or send yours for vsr balancing for longevity.
      Keep in mind many parts are made in China, which uses prisoner forced labor. Of which those prisoners have no rights to their own organs. I don't think they give a crap if your turbo billet is really balanced.
