When I was a child, my dad and I watched Roy Clark at the state fair. He pointed to me and told me to name any animal in the zoo. As I named them, he made his guitar sound like each and every one. Been a huge fan of this amazing man ever since.
It was a great day when there were actual artists who could just sit on a stool playing a guitar, with off-the-charts talent, and actually be insanely entertaining! Thank you, UA-cam, for being a "time machine" for me!
I'm 60 years young and have heard many string artists play. However, none have ever been remotely close to the shear mastery of Roy Clark. Honestly, I don't believe anyone ever will be.
All I remember of Roy Clark as a little kid was that he played a banjo on Hee Haw. I'm in my 50s now and finally going back to discover classic country from the 50s through the 70s. Boy did I miss a lot of incredible performers!
Magnificent! Takes me back in time... every Saturday night my parents watched Hee Haw with Roy Clark and Buck Owens. If you wanted to watch TV... that's what was on. That's how I learned to appreciate many genres. Sometimes I would complain, but what I wouldn't do to be sitting in my parent's living room watching Hee Haw! 😔 Thank you for sharing! 💖
@@that70sgirl90 Thanks for the reminder. I went to see Porter Wagoner and the Wagonmasters at a show in Redding, CA in 1973. Dolly Parton was with him at the time. I loved the CW music back then.

@@Glen-wl4xoYeah I've seen that kid and he's incredible. But no one can match Roy's versatility. Not only play this, but easily picked up anything with strings...
I have seen Joe Satriani and Jon Petrucci live. I have seen Les Claypool play the bass parts of Geddy Lee in person. I have seen all kinds of masters of the guitar. But nobody else plays like Roy Clark. He had a pure mastery and control of his strumming and right-hand technique that is so seldom-seen. It adds a whole new level of cleanliness to his playing.
❤he was always one of those nice, decent people, always friendly and always had a good sense of humor, ❤wonderful musical talent, could play any instrument with strings, excellent,❤miss, him too.
Yesterday, when I was young, so many happy songs..were waiting to be sung. Roy Clarke 4 EVER. I remember watching him on Hee Haw singing that song and playing his fiddle like it was a guitar. Roy was a truly gifted musician.
One of my favorite albums by the late Roy Clark "The Incredible Roy Clark" (from 1971) is NOT on Apple iTunes. I think that the master reel to reel tape was burned by the Universal Studios fire back in June 2008 as well as his other albums!!!
Musicians, and those who have the "ear" for catching all the insane intricacies involved within this phenomenal piece of musical genius, I truly feel for you, and i know just how disheartened you have become throughout the years due to the seemingly forgotten desires of real art in music, such as is depicted in this performance. If you feel this way, let me give you some advice that may help alleviate your situation and reestablish your faith in musicians of this day and age. Go into the settings of your youtube, spotify, fb, etc apps, and delete all your stored information pertaining to such things as like songs, videos, and so forth. Then go into the advertisement settings and reset or delete all of the saved crap in there as well. This will reset the algorithms back to default, which basically means back to brand new, and see what kind of new stuff the apps recommend for your viewing and listening pleasures. Youre welcome.
I was wondering why the guitar had some twang in the tone which is weird because the Gibson is set in the rhythm pickup position. The reason? He’s not plugged in! He’s playing alright but the guitar is played as an acoustic and is heard in its natural woody tone. The hot mics were overhead right out of sight I’m sure. Rest In Peace Roy! What a talent
Alvis Edgar Owens Jr. (August 12, 1929[1] - March 25, 2006),[2] known professionally as Buck Owens, was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and band leader. He was the lead singer for Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, which had 21 No. 1 hits on the Billboard country music chart. He pioneered what came to be called the Bakersfield sound, named in honor of Bakersfield, California, Owens's adopted home and the city from which he drew inspiration for what he preferred to call "American music".[3] FROM WIKIPEDIA
