That ending. "I am Lady Shar's instrument. You can not win" Four critical roles.
That was so scary, I dare not face it
might be a mod or something, the dice roll in conversation was a 20 too, that's 5 20s in a row
I felt that
To be fair if they were trying all endings and put a dice mod in - to guarantee the story to go accurately for these videos ❤ I can understand putting a mod in for it lol 😂 no one would want to failed the dice rolls mid recording just to have to restart it 😂
I saw one attack roll, not four. The “Critical Hit” message repeats for each effect that adds bonus damage to the hit.
"Im the biggest shar simp!"
"No! I am the biggest shar simp!"
A bhaalspawn, dark justiciar, demigod, and slaver walk into a bar ..
Not gonna lie this fight as a redeemed SH is tough as balls because of constant darkness casting and bonechills.
Yeah that sucked as a caster lol, but none of that compared to the Mother Superior’s ultimate ability at the end of the fight: send Shadowheart to jail.
Yeah, the daylight spell does wonders though. They cast multiple darkness spells and you only need one to dispel most if not all of them.
I changed Selune Shadowheart to a light domain cleric when she bleached her hair. It was great both thematically, and her new channel divinity was amazing for this fight.
I just run back to the door and cast wall of fire on the stairs before closing it, and most enemies died before they could even come close, Viconia herself was half dead (with her Sanctuary buff still intact) by the time she got up,and the rest of the survivors died from a couple of fireballs.
we retreated to the stairs and cast wall of fire and hunger of hadar all the way up the stairs. They all died.

Always cool to see scenes that'd never ever happen because I'd never have shadowheart be a dark justiciar lol

Its the way i went - full justiciar and went back to the temple with a real "god sent me" feel. Shar all the way.

The comedic timing on the cut was perfect
Lack of crit blockers does that. She uses a debuff on SH to make her every hit she does makes a critical hit.

I'm lady shars instrument!
That poor lad. " wait wait wait no!"
It makes no sense lorewise that Viconia fights Shadowheart when she announces she is Shar's chosen, in the playthrough where she goes to Selune Viconia says that Shadowheart was groomed all her life to be Shar's chosen and that Shar herself appeared to Viconia and ordered her that, so why she acts surprised when Shadowheart returns and claims the title?
I don't think she's surprised, she's unhappy and in denial
Viconia's diaries discuss this. She has raised Shadowheart for 40 years and given her special treatment on Shar's orders (special treatment for better and worse), but she's not happy about it. She worries that she is training her own replacement and that she will once again lose everything she has built. She probably hopes she can push Shadowheart back into submission, wipe her memories and hold onto power another hundred years telling herself that Shadowheart wasn't ready.
It's because she despises Shadowheart. Shar ordered Viconia to kill her entire sect that she founded and told her to start over and find, kidnap, and groom shadowheart to be shars chosen she's jealous of her and in denial and blames shadowheart for the sacrifices she had to make on shars orders.
that entire exchange was just who is a bigger Shar d-rider
I love that path too, it was the one I did in my first playthrough I went full evil and it was cool
I'm pretty sure my wife Viconnia abandoned this part of her life
If i'm not mistaken, a romanced Viconia is supposed to get assassinated at one point no?

Still weirded out by Viconia, Sarevok going back to his own ways didn't surprise me that much, but Viconia? Even in the original game she was a follower of Shar by name mainly, she didn't seem too personally involved with the religion, and now, after being geared towards good and leaving Shar, she get back to the religion as a fanatic while she never was one in the past? That's a weird turn of event
A lot can happen in 100 years
@@drkinferno72 Sure but it's a game, so if you want to have a character fill a certain role like here, either create a new one, or then give a really good explanation for a character personality making a 180 (especially for player who actually got out of their way for her redemption), 'cause here it seems like they used Viconia for the hype (she's a popular character) instead of using because her character filled the role
That as if Jaheira became evil without any explanation of why, you can't just handwave character development to "shit happened"
There's some dialogue you can eventually get to that explains it. Shar communicated to Viconia directly and told her destroy her old coven, and create a new one specifically aimed to abduct Shadowheart and brainwash her so Shar could turn a Selunite into her Chosen.
@@guifire9747the only way her redemption was possible is through romance, and this way ends with her being assassinated.
@@troller8680 not realy true. Read her ending when she is in party but not romanced. He starts a temple of shar, but then purges it after a rebelion against her, throws shar away, travels up with drizz and in the end helps the elf queen and gets blessing of selune. Maybe its not full redemption, but its not compatible with the BG3 viconia....
I see... so viconia didnt end up with bg1 and 2 bhaalspawn..as my canon demanded.
Not true, you can believe that your BG1 and 2 character found a Tablet of Reawakening to bring her back from the dead (I believe it for my BG1 and 2 character). Remember, not romancing her does not change her fate set in stone by her backstory, because no matter what you do, Lolth still wants her dead for renouncing her and turning to Shar. Her non-romanced epilogue in Throne of Bhaal implies she might be dead, because after saving an elven settlement, no one has seen or heard from her since then. Think about it, Lolth does not anticipate your BG1&2 character to find a way to bring her back from the dead, so with Viccy resurrected, she is no longer marked for death because Lolth isn't aware she is alive again.
Sadly it's a familiar name slapped on instead of actually exploring the character and her potential endings. There's others, let's say without spoilers, but this one hits hard if you are a fan of her in the originals.
@@ValkoinenShiro She was my favourite companion in BG2. Her appearance here is handled pretty badly and hurts my headcannon.
(By appearance, I mean taking part in the story, not physical appearance, though that also isn't how I would've imagined)
@@LightStreak567 I would argue Lolth would have a great deal of trouble killing her after charname ascends to godhood if the player goes that route. It's very conceivable she could live out the rest of her life with a god of comparable power to Lolth watching over her.
@@idellius7505 Gorion's Ward ascending to godhood can't happen, Wizard's of the Coast will never canonize a character that can be customized by a thousand players to become a deity. Their main rule for Forgotten Realms authors and game developers to follow is that their characters can't do anything that will drastically change the Forgotten Realms, the outcomes of their adventures have to be limited in scope. If Gorion's Ward ascended to godhood, we would have seen or heard about him or her in a 3rd, 4th or 5th Edition sourcebook.

I hope this fight can be avoided. Have no desire to whack good old Viconia, one my chars from BG2 will never forgive if i'll kill the love of his love. C'mon, he even cleansed her from vampiric taint and brought her back from the dead!

@@Mic_Glow You can loot her and then spare her, it's not mutually exclusive.
@@captsmollett I guess... Sadly the non-lethal toggle in my game is bugged, a lot of toggles are actually.. they don't show up
@@Mic_Glow I didn't have non-lethal turned on and you don't land a killing blow on her - I threw tons of fireballs around her while she was downed and it didn't kill.
@@Mic_Glow You don't have to do non-lethal, she will get knocked out to 1hp and be out of fight, and after you kill everyone else, you can talk to her and there will be the option to either kill her or tell her to GTFO. The only time I had to use non-lethal was with Minsc, otherwise you kill him and Jahira gets pissed and leaves your party permanently.
Viconia should have joined after seeing that Shadowheart became Shar's chosen. They should have left BG's best companion (Viconia) alone instead of bringing her back for this...

I wonder why Larian chose to age her up so much here. It's only been like around a hundred or so years since the events of BG 1 and 2. I understand Jahiera looking older because that would put her around 150 -- which is definitely towards the end of the lifespan of a half elf, but for Viconia, a century wouldn't be near as impactful to her. Would have loved to have been able to get her back in my party too since she was definitely my favorite NPC from the old games. Turning her into a character you just mow over makes me feel bad for her too. : /
same, she was my fav too. I can't help but feel she deserved better
Yep, Elves can live 700 years, and spellcasting Elves can live even longer, especially Drow.
So 120 years for Viconia, would be like going from early 20s to early 30s for a human female. She looks more like mid 40s-early 50s here. Definitely not the sultry vixen she once was.
@@gingergreenmashups At this point it is obvious Larian did not give a single fuck about the old Baldur's Gate games. Why even bring back Vic or Sarevok if you are going to retcon or use them as throw away bad guys.

L'il Alurl! What's this mean? Minthara shouts this in battle too.
It's Drow for: "The best". In the original trilogy, Viconia's battle cry was: "L'il Alurl for Shar!" which literally means: "The best for Shar".
So, my game bugged when Shart fought me over the Nightsong. I defeated her with passive damage, then tried to pick up her body and it disappeared. I haven't had her since.
In this case, I ...wandered in to the temple and was attacked immediately. Thanks a Wall of Fire, Cloud Kill and silence at the bottom of the stairs I melee'd 2 justiciars and shot 2 others that attacked form the wings. I never got to see what DeVir does. Easiest fight in the game!
5:17 it would be an instant restart if that happened to one of my guys lmfao
The real problem with larian and the last chapter of every game is the rushed and the lack of inspiration, WHY THE HECK every approach need to end on a damn fight? You pass 2 or even 3 check and what? FIGHT. I dont want to fking fight every group i encounter. So different than the chapter 1 and mid chapter 2.
To be fair I found this one to be cool, because those checks were Shadowheart convincing more and more of the Sharrans to follow her, which feeds into her power fantasy of being Shar’s Chosen, carrying out her will and purging the mother she’s had so much pent up hate for over the years.
that depends on the path you took. there is a way to get Viconia friendly with sharrans helping at the final fight
Vampire Bloodlines had the same issue because it too suffered from a rushed back-half. Both games got very railroaded at the end and make excessive use of combat encounters to compensate for the lack of rp.

HUH Seems Viconia had a tough break up form BG2's MC.. what with embracing loss as an old woman and all that
This is the fate of all servants of Shar, no matter how obedient. Viconia will be forced to face the afterlife ignored, with no final reward for her loyalty...forgotten like everything else. And so will Shadowheart in time, so fascinatingly tragic.
Shar felt that Viconia betrayed her, so most likely she gets judged as one of the false. As a chosen, Shadowheart is most likely is immune to aging, like most chosen in the Realms, so long as she stays loyal to Shar and doesn't get mortally wounded, she could potentially live forever. If she were to be struck down, she would most likely transition into undead as one of the Shadowed and become even more powerful.
Wow...Viconia really let herself go.
I just find dark justiciar shadowheart so much cooler, than selunite shadowheart.
That's because she is.
Hands down. Dark Justiciar Shadowheart sold me on this game + the sass included lol, it's incredible.
Wow Shadowheart completely lost her marbles in this version.
Shadowheart's evil story is way more interesting than her good one. becoming Shar's chosen is way cooler than her becoming a SAHM. her "good" personality feels worse and she becomes more reliant on the Tav, losing the sharp independence she introduces herself with in Act 1.
although I guess it doesn't matter because if you go full evil you just subjugate your allies anyways
Shes not dependable to you shes just showing her vulnerable side to you. Shes still independed can perfectly live without you. She trusts you completely to share her insecurities. Not running away from her sadness or hiding it. Selunite Shadowheart is braver than Shar one. Because in Shars shes afraid of her wound , afraid of her past. Afraid to remember and face them.
Being willing to show your feelings to someone doesnt make you less independent, it just allows you to build a connection. Not to mention shes basically coming out of her shell after having been groomed and abused as a sharran before lol
Exactly. Boss babe Shadowheart is way more interesting than trad wife Shadowheart.
@@MistyKathrine Because game treats Dark Justiciar path with nonsense logic. She shouldnt even attend to party. Her memory shouldve been wiped. Shar forbids emphaty and love and respect.
@@ladyselin35 Without Viconia forcing her in front of the mirror, the days of her memories being wiped are over unless Shadowheart specifically wants it.

Lines like "I'm closer to Lady Shar than you could ever be" or "You're disgraced in lady Shar's eyes"...
Viconia turned to this faith when she lost EVERYTHING- her family, her position, her brother who got turned into a drider. How can she be so calm when insulted like that?
But instead of being insulted, she focuses only on... what? Political scheming to maintain her position?
That's not Viconia, no way.
Im Love. Goddesses, I pray im one.
I hate how they butchered one of my favorite BG2 characters here. I know they made Viconia align with the Wizards of the Coast canon - but I absolutely hate hat they made her a boring simplified villian. She was a much more complex character in BG2.
Yeah...this isn't Baldur's Gate. This is bad fanfic trash. I'll look forward to a remake or proper sequel made with the engine some day.
Cry about it minority. 1 in literal millions. You don't matter.
I wonder how BG3 would look like if this was made purely by Americans like Starfield or Elden Ring by the Japanese. I guess we will never know.
There is a mod called Baldur's Gate 2 Reloaded. Honestly I'm way more excited for that than BG3.
This is why I think Baldur's Gate is overrated. They blatantly show how they ideologically hate attractive women. Viconia was attractive in BG 1 and 2 (like most female drow used to). She looks like a hag here. Also, if you played the originals, you will see that this scene is very out of character for her, and goes against established lore.
I have been playing D&D for nearly thirty years, and I've played the original Baldur Gate series since the early 2000's.
I have no intention of playing this game, and it has nothing on the originals.
Overrated trash, this is almost like a pornographik parody of D&D.
She was definitely aged up way more than she should have been. 100 years for an elf is comparable to like a decade or less. I also found her behavior here to be out of character for her too, imo. The voice actor doesn't even sound remotely similar to the old one either, so I think Larian dropped the ball pretty hard with our girl here. They do treat Jahiera and Minsc well though, and the game has a lot of really good features. I don't regret playing it, and would definitely say it's worth a run even if you were a fan of the originals like us, especially if it goes on a steam sale at some point.
You don't play it but you know for sure he doesn't have anything over the original? That makes no sense mate
I can accept the argument for BG2, But past the nostalgy, BG1 isn't that great of a game, pass more time searching in huge ass area killing a thousand gnolls for almost nothing rather than actually playing a game, most side quest completely forgettable, no interaction whatsoever with the character in your party, it didn't age well at all and i would not advice anyone to play it currently apart from the lore to then play the way superior and better BG2
Pretending BG1 is above BG3 is straight false
PS: Tho i agree that Viconia was done dirty, not only her redemption is thrown out the windows (like Sarevok's but i find it easier to believe in his case) but even when she was a Shar's follower, she was never hardcore about it, seeing her as a fanatics is out of character for someone who mainly cared about herself first, the opposite of someone devoted to religion (and yes she shoudn't be that old-looking, a century for a drow is nothing)
@@guifire9747 There was so much more nuance to her character too. Yes, she was rough around the edges, but that had a lot to do with the fact that everyone she'd ever met apart from her brother had betrayed her.
It really just took the tiniest spark of kindness to end up uncovering a person who was surprisingly empathetic and deeply loyal. She never once betrays you despite having multiple opportunities where she'd benefit from it. I found her to be one of the best friends charname could make and arguably the best lover if you went that route as well.
And yeah, seeing all of her best qualities gone and the character just reduced to a religious fanatic that drank too much of their cult's kool-aid is just sad. There was so much more to her than that.
@@idellius7505 You said it all, i don't like to go that way since they obviously put lot of work and love in their game, but it really seem like something someone who didn't play the original would come up with, even in my good-aligned party i kept Viconia around because she doesn't mind doing some good, she just never had the opportunity to do so when she was too focused staying alive
She remind me of Morrigan in Dragon Age, rough when you don't know her, bad reputation, but a really awesome and fearsome ally when you actually go farther than the facade (and like Viconia, one of if not the best romance because of that reason)
@@guifire9747 I don't actually need to play BG3 to know the writing and writers quality is inferior to those in the originals. I just have to watch videos, and currently, there is no lack of BG3 videos.
Granted, in BG1 you don't get to interact with your companions as much as in BG2. But that was never the point. BG1's strength lies in its plot. We wouldn't even have BG3 were it not for BG1's success, so I don't know what you're talking about. We wouldn't even have the scene in this video, since Viconia herself is a BG1 character.
Of course, the pace and progression is slower in BG1, but you are judging it through modern lenses. When the game came out, people had longer attention spans and did not care so much about instant gratification. They took their pace.
BG3 is D&D 5e after all, where everyone begin as a superhero, and a walking god by the end of the day. In BG1 you were just like every D&D character back then. A common person that becomes a hero, and eventually, a god in thei own right.
I stand by my opinion, BG1 writing is superior to BG3, which, I believe, owes its success to advanced graphics and overly sexual tones. (Bear) sex sells, after all.
God damn, when I did this fight my Shadowheart spared nightsong and we had to fight the whole room of ~20 enemies. It was not fun, but eventually just funneled them into the top staircase with a Gale respecced as a sorc, used twin spell VI Lightning and ricocheted everyone to death. Super worth it to get the best ending for her (save her parents)
I had unlocked the ilithid powers and used the black hole ability which is like a win button. The whole room gets sucked into one tiny spot and you just drop hell on them
i respecced shadowheart into a cleric of selune before this doing this part of her quest and her channel divinity ability dispels darkness and deals a shit ton of damage to the shar cultists
@@crunchyoats1862 hahah I didnt even think of that. for some reason I was thinking she automatically "respecced" after her hair change, I thought selune and shar were both trickery domain lol
