I enjoyed your two Japanese train videos (which is what I was looking for). They are very well done.

This is an excellent video. Unlike many others on the Tube, this is in HD and the lens has been set properly. Other camera operators use Tele or wide angle which distorts everything and makes the train look like it's running too fast or too slow. Well done.

Nice video. Perfect HD video quality. The system looks kinda new. Other similar train systems are in dire need of repair. This system looks like it has been maintained for many years. Good to also know that the freight and passenger train services are separate in Japan.

JR West: the Biwako Line (a part of the Tokaido Line)
Special Rapid Service train for Omi-Shiotsu

    STOPS:
    0:00 京都 Kyoto
    4:45 山科 Yamashina
    9:19 大津 Otsu
    11:42 膳所 Zeze
    13:03 石山 Ishiyama
    16:00 瀬田 Seta
    17:19 南草津 Minami-Kusatsu
    18:18 草津 Kusatsu
    22:07 栗東 Ritto
    23:05 守山 Moriyama
    25:55 野洲 Yasu
    30:25 篠原 Shinohara
    32:02 近江八幡 Omi-Hachiman
    35:33 安土 Azuchi
    37:57 能登川 Notogawa
    41:24 稲枝 Inae
    43:11 河瀬 Kawase
    44:38 南彦根 Minami-Hikone
    46:02 彦根 Hikone
    50:10 米原 Maibara
Train goes from Maibara to Omi-Shiotsu terminal via the Hokuriku Main Line

    TIPS 1:
The Biwako Line (including some Hokuriku Main Line) and the Kosai Line run along both sides of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan.
The two lines diverge at Yamashina Station and merge at Omi-Shiotsu Station.

    TIPS 2:
The word "Omi" on some of the station names above refers to the old province of the region here.
The words "Shiotsu", "Hachiman", etc. following "Omi" are smaller place names, but there are places with the same name throughout Japan.
Therefore, some Japanese station names are a combination of old province names and area names to avoid duplication.
So, "Omi-Shiotsu" would mean "Shiotsu in Omi Province", maybe.

Thank you for adding these to some of the vids I have watched, it REALLY is nice to follow along. Such a beautiful and clean countryside. Except in 1 vid I have seen (Maybe Sapporo?) I don't see all of that UGLY Spray painted walls and tunnels. I wish the morons in other countries had as much respect for other people's and for public property! Thanks again.

Good video!! Loved it. Its ashame the USA dont have a efficient commuter and passenger rail system like japan. Key word; passenger rail system have their own tracks, not sharing the frieght rail system.

+BNforever2009 Is that a freight train at 25:00?

    • @alfarola1184
      @alfarola1184 9 років тому +1

+BNforever2009 this is BS. But Passenger Trains have priority over Freight Trains. A different matter are the highspeed rail on whom indeed only highspeed trains run. (and the maintenance crews)

Also many times such as this 4 track mode, on 2 tracks, usually the express trains use them so they do not need to make stops at each stations. The slower runs uses other 2 tracks which will stop at every stations.

Yes, it's crying shame that United States does NOT have very efficient rail (commuter) rail systems throughout the major cities within. When they do, they never come on time (in Japan, almost 100% are right on time, maybe 20 seconds off the most), and they have many connections to other railways at many major stations and on top of this, most stations are located very close to their homes so they are usually walking distance. Yes, I know Japan is much smaller country, like the size of California and they can situate the stations close to the houses and in the United States, that might be a quite difficult to do. Also you will not see people horsing around inside the train or making troubles to others, like in the US. People are much more respectable. I know

Great video. Shows what can be done with commitment to public transportation without the influence and greed of the oil companies. Too bad there isn't a total of 70 or 80 KM (the length of the line) of similar smooth and well laid track in the entire USA..

    • @jasperedwards81

      +Chuck Lindstrom Totally, totally agree.

    • @froggleggers1805
      @froggleggers1805 7 років тому

Its not the oil companies, its the fact that culturally people in the United States own their own cars. Also the distances are much greater in the US than in Europe. Economically it does not make sense to build high speed rail in the US for the most part, a few exceptions would be the highly populated urban areas.

The key is a many decade long commitment to improving rail transportation. Problems in US public passenger transportation will take decades of work, and, a lot of money to be able to finance the changes required. Otherwise, we will maintain our steady decline towards curses caused by a third world public passenger rail system.
Incidentally, our roads and bridges are in ever increased need of repair, too.

Great Video! How did you manage to film it? I myself would like to travel on the engine cab in Japan and film a Video myself (I'm also a great railway Enthusiast). How did you do it, do you know a Person from Japan's railways that I could ask to get permission? I'd highly appreciate your help, thanks!
