Honestly, I think straighter backs look better. Not a dog owner, would love to own one someday, but I think functionality trumps aesthetics.

I grew up in the early 70's with GSD's. They didn't have the roach back but they did have the coloring of the show line (saddle back, Black and Tan) One of the males was from actual show lines with many relatives that won ribbons.
I don't like the roach back we see in current show dogs. Watching them trot on their hocks seems very unnatural.
My current GSD is from the working lines. Coloring is a mix of everything. Bi color, Blanket backed, Black and Tan, and sable mixed. But she's the most reactive, high energy, high prey drive of any dog I've ever owned. Much higher energy then I remember from the AKC GSD's we owned in the 70's.

Well I think we can breed it with the Belgian Malinois to produce a perfect combination.

Bad breeders and acceptance by certain canine groups...period. Going for a certain "look" over the health and wellbeing. Hip dysplasia, back issues..
We had the same genetic issues with many of our show cats years ago, many having been put through unnecessary pain and having to be put down at too young of age. Never again.
