The HOLY GRAIL of Salmon Flies! Do YOU agree?

It could be argued, the gold bodied Willie Gunn has landed more Atlantic salmon than any other salmon fly in history! Flies that may compete for this stature, such as the gold cascade, are essentially based on this deadly colour scheme. It really is a universal fly that can be fished in any water in any condition.
Here I tie a small size 12 version, that I will most likely tie on as a dropper. The fly can be tied on large or small hooks, as well as on a range of tube tubes types and Waddington shanks.

Dressing:
Tag: Gold oval tinsel or wire
Optional butt: Fluorescent green, red or orange
Body: Gold mylar or flat braid
Rib: Gold oval tinsel or wire
Wing: Orange, yellow and black bucktail mixed and gold crystal flash
Throat: Orange, yellow and black bucktail mixed

Unreal completely agree! Going to tie a few in softer material for low water ridge pool. Love gold hooks for fresh fish.

I'd say you would have to tie up a few on 1/4 inch plastic tubes after last year's action Adam 👍

Lovely tying as usual Sean. Totally agree the WG is the number 1 fly closely followed by the black and yellow, and one of my personal favourites the Comet.

salmon will take any fly when they want to if they dont want to no flies will work

Personally I think size and depth is more important but I have covered non takers and induced a take with a change of pattern but this wouldn't be in perfect conditions
