- A Remix of the Geoscape view music in UFO: enemy unknown for you X-COM fans out there :)
I've always really liked the music in the x-com games so one day I decided to modernize this atmospheric piece of music. It should have all the themes that were in the original but I've shortened it a bit by cutting out the almost silent bits where nothing was happening.
Hope you guys like it. :)
stallone.gfxile... geoscape.mp3
When I was in school, I would boot up the game, bring up the geoscape screen and just let this music play while I studied for a test or did research on a paper. I liked to think of myself as an X-Com scientist studying alien technology. Pretending my biology homework was like doing a sectoid autopsy, those were the days!
I had a tough time explaining that this helped me study when my dad walked in and saw the game screen on my computer, though... lol!
Slick Vic that explains why my heavy plasma research always goes so slow
Anything we had to do to make school bearable.
Like who doesn't occasionally love role-playing in life? haha.
X-COM was a bit before my time as school-age games went, but I would do the exact same thing with the Versalife theme from Deus Ex.
One thing's for certain, I think you still retain the information
you put in your head that day, fer sure.
It's how I treat all matters science, so to me reading but once
about something is like steel jarred in memory.
We looked to the skies, still with fear, but now without dread. Our opponent _could be defeated;_ that's all we needed to hold on.
This is the finest remake of the Geoscape theme I have ever listened to. I added it into the music files of OpenXCOM and Xenonauts to enhance the experience. :)
I have to admit I don't care so much for most game soundtrack remixes. This one is a real gem however. Terrific homage to the work.
Fantastic remake. It seamlessly includes everything that the original intended for, while managing to update the overall sounds.
dreadhawk123 why didn't they make this the new Geoscape music in the new ones
@@alizard7617 because the Geoscapes strategy part was dumped down and split into Geoscape/Base management, in OG-Xcom it goes fluid from the Geoscape into the Bases and different menus, plus the Geoscape is the Mainscreen, not the Base
3:37 ah the goose bumps. They don't make it like this anymore. Awesome remix man, spot on.
I still come back to this every so often, and one thing I've just realized (in 2024) that makes this remix one of the best I've heard is how it seems to emphasize the original X-Com motifs of "extraterrestrials," "mystery," and "terror" really well. The little (keyboard synthesizer key sequence?) couldn't capture a sectoid's mysteriousness and terror any better than it does. And as it moves off to the final leg of the theme, it seems to transform into "fight back," which is really cool. I don't care what anyone says, the 90s were the golden age of computer gaming: It was right when everything was still being figured out but opened up just enough to give you an idea of where things could go if done correctly.
@@22_floW it's the pre-industrialization era of computer gaming, as you said, a time of discovery and genuine creativity. I think it's the same pattern for every medium, movies, books, music..
This game and TIE fighter are the best games I've ever played imo.
Perfect music for world-saving strategic planning (or tedious data entry work)
Bloody brilliant soundtrack. Broomhall is like the Ennio Morricone of 90s game music.... i literally spent hundreds of hours on the pc version. Music never gets boring.
This sounds EXACTLY how I'd expect an XCom remake to sound like. Good job.
This is really good. Many remixes somehow break the mood for me, but this one is doesn't and is actually something I'd want to listen to while playing, well done!
XCOM 1995 may have outdated graphics but the sound track is forever!
i love this game and music!
This is definitely the best remix out there, it brings out the original feeling best I think.
Лучшая игра моего детства 😔как же я скучаю по тем временам , когда впервые запустил её ещё на дискете 3.5 дюйма с братом. Супер саундтрек , спасибо!
Thank you for this mix! Using daily while working, set on repeat :-)
Yeah, absolutely the same.
I love how it keeps the mystery and the darkness. The retro samples we're definitely a good addition, too! Make more :)
This is my new 'thinking music' at work.
Fuck those terror missions with 5 aliens staring at the skyranger's ramp forreal.
Just been getting back into X-Com, and this is fantastic.
Love the Geoscape theme. Moody, tense, fear of the unknown, time running out.
if i ever join the military and reach the rank of general i will have this music playing in the control room at HQ at ALL times
So... did you become a general?
@@commander1488 I think it's classified to talk about.
When I hear this song, I completly remembers the old times.. This is so good..
"Time to hunt some alien bastards again!" That´s what I think every time I hear this song xD
I have probably already commented on this, but here I am again. This is a great version. Brings me back. I listen to this once in a while, and it gets me in the pefect xcom mood every time. Love it!
love it, it's a bit of music that u don't want to mess around with too much and you done it just right thanks
Very talented. Stays true and feels updated. I dont think anyone could have done any better, to be honest.
Such an interesting track...I doubt I'd have ever thought it was even musically possible to capture such a specific task or feeling, this "due deliberation in the face of mystery" kind of thing.
Remix is fantastic. Thanks for posting it.
bluereaper75: Then I pray you're prepared to have the greatest HQ of all time.
"Roland Rizzo, who has been working with the X-COM series since the beginning, became the audio lead for the game and was tasked with reimagining and updating the famous music score of the 1994 original."-Source: Wikipedia.
Let's hope he recaptures the mystery, desperation, fear and tension of the original soundtrack.
Magic old game days. Who knew it would turn into a classic.
It's just great, listening like every week. Excellent for working and travelling - especially in dark.
Really enjoying the mysterious string segments added, this is an impressive piece of work.
Really, really nice. Really captures the best music sections. Downloaded. :)
dude wow.....this is actually really good. I actually feel like giving Superhuman a go now.
Look! A UA-cam comment conversation that DOESN'T consist entirely of insults and flamewar.
Because Xcom fans aren't toxic.
@@hYBRYDcOBRA because they know to unite against a common enemy.
@@Dr.Oofers united, we have 99% chance to defeat our enemy!
*Missed*
Well fu-...
It's pretty good. Gives me the same "We need asap high technology to survive"-feeling as the original does.
This is actually really impressive. Cheers for the memories.
X com, transport tycoon, masters of Orion.... microprose was on another level back then....
Epic remix, epic game. The circle are now complete.
the perfect screenshot to describe the game
I'm listening to this at work, counting the last hours till I can get get home and try the new XCOM. Awesome work!
Wonderful. Those memories...
Good track. Sounds like the soundtrack to the X-File series.
Hello, and thanks for all the kind words :) Kudos to the guy who originally composed this music! (anyone know his name?)
His name is John Broomhall. He made among others Transport Tycoon music as well. Amazing game music both...
Улюблена гра дитинства. Як швидко минає час(
А музика й досі занурює мене у ту атмосферу, яку я так полюбляв у цій грі.
Все стратегические игры XCOM крутые, каждые с особой изюминкой.
I wish Jagged Alliance 2 battle mechanics and macro-scale immersion were melted into an X-Com revamp of some sort...
+Wolf_22 Yeah. Brigade E5 had it about right, other than the stability of the game.
Like balm for the soul.
Game freezed, but new sound is live.
I've gotten requests for the .mp3 file. I added the address to the video description since youtube doesn't seem to allow me to add a comment like that to my own video. :P Hope you guys enjoy it! :)
Thanks for this! The music is amazing!
An epic remix indeed =)
Nice job on this and thanks for the nostalgia kick!
Best version uploaded on youtube but I still miss the original one from the PC dos game.
OH, shit...Its gonna be a night mission AGAIN!
Fantastic remix!
Wow. This is fantastic. Spot on!
Good job man, you got it damn right. A great game a great tune now reborn. I got in the mood to kick some serious alien butt!
You did an excellent job, man. Awesome!
the old times... Awesome!
Fantastic.
Sounds pretty good. I'm actually using it in my game at the moment.
Обожаю эту игру!
Best Remix!
Awsome work with this one man =) thumbs up!
Great! My childhood :D
I like to listen to this while watching the walkthroughs of this game on youtube
Thank you for this.
8 aliens dislike that >:D
teh memories... tehy meakse me cryeis
Love it! Need`s atleast 1 million more views!
ОБОЖАЮ ИГРУ
Things with the drumbeat get very distracting and partially out of sync after 6:05.
Im sure its just part of the personal touch. All of the music beforehand is plenty enjoyable, especially the arrangement of the opening segment.
@bluereaper75 It certainly makes me want to have a room with a massive globe on the wall and this music playing. I would go there to contemplate and make crucial decisions.
space ambient music kickass !
Liked and favorited. I don't suppose there's any way to replace the original geoscape music with this music in the actual game? Would be awesome, yo.
The difficulty was completely screwed up, along with the tech tree. I just LOVED when I was forced to siege an alien base with gauss rifles, lobstermen all around, invulnerable for everything...
Psst. Vibro Blades. OHK on Lobstermen.
I'm just sitting here wondering how that much activity can be going on on the 10th of September. They're never that aggressive when I play.
stellar
Excellent. Thank you. :)
@Dxun1 The address is working fine. Just click it and it opens up the directory. Then you can right click the geoscape.mp3 and select "save as" to download it. :) ... Yeah, xcom games rock. I just started playing terror from the deep for the umpteenth time.
Very good
give me a month when the next x-com comes out xD
Perfect
i definatly think this should be featured in UFO:extraterrestrials 2
Try reading the X-com timepline on the ufo wiki while listening to this, it's very, Revealing.
Nice!
I like this remix for Geoscape =)
4 Battleships. 2 supply ships 1 Terror Ship and 6 Alien bases. thats like.. normal when I play xD
This sounds like a part of the Terminator soundtrack. Specifically after the gunshop scene.
Wow, if you watch this on an iPhone and expand it it looks like you're playing X-COM on an iPhone! Someone port this to iOS - it would be awesome!
Great one.
MUCH better than the "Terror from the deep". Man that's lame.
I'd be lucky to find a copy of the game for PS1 on Amazon. It's one of
those games I regret trading in.
Cool
love it
Best. Game. Ever.
I used Ableton Live. It's got great workflow. ... yeah, hope the game is good too! Thumbs up to firaxis. I'm pretty psyched!
@jayattic
John Broomhall. Good rework, like :)
