The island of Oahu is the economic and cultural center of the Hawaiian archipelago, as well as being a paradise for surfers, active holidaymakers, and freedom lovers. The island is home to more than half of all natives and almost eight million foreign guests annually. Anyone searching for peace and seclusion won’t find it in Honolulu or Waikiki. Traffic congestion and a backdrop of skyscrapers belong to the town panorama. Hip cafes, galleries, and young fashion firms have settled here, adding a new and modern flair to the capital. Cindy’s Lei Shoppe, the Chinatown florist, has been here for more than 30 years. This is also because the so-called Leis, the tradition of floral decoration, usually offered as a flower necklace or as a headdress, is still an important part of Hawaiian culture. Keone Nunes is well-known for his traditional tattooing skills, whereby the so-called Kakau Tattoos are virtually hammered into the skin with a hippo tooth. Oahu is also an island of overwhelming natural beauty and fascinating diversity in the smallest of places ... Available Worldwide except for Germany, Austria, Switzerland #freedocumentary #nature
My beloved father was Chinese American, born and raised in Honolulu, in the largely Chinese neighborhood of Kaimuki. He and Mom adopted my sister and me (as infants) because they couldn't have biological children of their own. Dad was the youngest of 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls, and he was born in 1928, before Hawaii became an American State. I still have his original birth certificate!! My sister and I have many family members, most of whom still live on the Hawaiian Islands, mainly in Honolulu. Dad passed away in 2013, at the age of 84, and it was his wish to have a Hawaiian outrigger canoe row his ashes out, a little beyond the breakers on Waikiki and pour his ashes into the ocean below Diamond Head. That is exactly what we did for Dad. I hope he knows that his wishes were, indeed, granted. I can't wait to see that good man again. I love you, Dad!!
Aloha Aina. My body and face are haole but, my heart and mind are Hawai'ian. I grew up on the Island of Oahu from the age of 9, and returned to the mainland when I was 21. Some of the places I lived were Ala Moana, Kaneohe, and Kailua. I attended Royal School, Robert Lewis Stevenson Junior High, Kailua High, and Hawaii Baptist Academy. Did some sailing and snorkeling in Kailua Bay, and plenty of surfing virtually everywhere, especially Ala Moana, down to Queen's and Black Point Diamond Head. And the North Shore during Winter Break. This was all "Long Board surfing" ( Joe Quigg with a reverse skeg). My Dad was a body surfer there during WWII, under the tutelage of Duke Kahanamoku. I miss the Aloha way of Life there but, I carry it and practice it everywhere I go and live. I'm 77 years of age but still feel like 17-21. E Malama Pono! 🙏🌺🏄🌈👍😃
Nearly 10% of Hawaii's population today is Hispanic/Latino. Many of the Hispanics/Latinos today in Hawai'i are the descendants of Puerto Ricans who arrived here around 1900. Mahalo!
I’m going to Oahu in two months in 2 months with my son. We’re super excited & counting the days. We’ve been watching videos nonstop and taking notes on what to do and what NOT TO DO to respect the island and the locals. Much ♥️ From Houston, TX
Born and raised in Hawaii living there for 15 years and moving this year I loved every second of it and it is such a peaceful beautiful place my family had to move out because it was too expensive and not the best options for college and we wanted to be able to go other places and not be stuck on an island. I still love hawaii and will miss it dearly
I love Hawaii and its culture. I’ve visited Oahu a few times but went to Maui for the first time this year and felt like it was an island made for tourists, though still beautiful. Resorts were everywhere and I didn’t really feel like I was in Hawaii, I compared it to being in Cape Cod. I love Oahu and its people. Visiting it has really changed my perspective and increase my respect for people in general and the world we live on. Sadly, I feel many investors and corporations are trying to take over the island that should be left to them.
I was stationed on Oahu in the 90's and loved it, went back in 2012 and felt like it was way too crowded, Enjoyed Maui way more, I felt Maui had way more open space, granted there were many hotels around but not near the amount of people Oahu has....
I ordered a lei from Cindy's for my wife as a Valentine's Day gift. I live in Tx, and because of Covid, I received it a day late. The lei broke the every year thing of buying flowers. My wife loved the lei. The smell of it made us miss being in HI.
Moving to Oahu in 6 months 🤙 to experience nature and enjoy life. Can't wait! I was born and raised in the Island of Puerto Rico, lived in New York City for nearly 30 years. Traveled to Hawaii many times for work, have family there and landed a great job in Oahu. Why moving to Hawaii.? Family, culture, it's people, vibe, music, weather and beautiful landscape.
Lived in Aiea, just outside of Honolulu in the early 80’s. Absolute best time of my life. One of my daughters was born at Queens Med Center. Would love to live there again, but couldn’t afford to. However, prices are getting so bad on the mainland that we could probably do as well there as here. lol
20 years ago this month I tried my hand at fulfilling my dream of living in Hawaii, Lived on Oahu in Pupukea. Didn't last long, mostly due to the cost to live there. But I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Oahu, North Shore specifically will always be my favorite, but Molokai is right up there. Molokai is an overlooked gem that shouldn't be missed.
I agreed totally. I lived N.S.Sunset area and Pupukea(Ke'iki Rd,now Bungalows) I was blessed to lived N.S. late 60s-70s(got married on the beach , as years later i.ter our daughters did.) I regret leaving more than any "profe$$ional move" I ever made. My will places my ashes off Ke Iki Beach by my children, I will be a Hawaiian beach forever. Listen if you visit, maybe I will sing for the sea. Aloha 🤙🌺
I miss Hawaii and its beautiful ALOHA people, it's been decades. My favourite place was the backyard of Dolly Partens home there. What breathtaking views and the whole island feels air-conditioned with the sweet smell of the ocean, not at all like the fishy smell of Long Island. That was where I loved to paint sitting on the lawn of her backyard facing the ocean. My gorgeous grand daughter was born there. I love and miss her and her beautiful mom. So glad I got to see her mom recently. I never knew there were so many variations of human skin colours from very white Japanese to the coal black of some Tahitians a kaleidoscope of beautiful people. If you want to see different races, and all at peace and love then you haven't been in a Kingdom Hall in Hawaii. Aloha my Brothers and Sisters.
I noticed mispronounced names as well, however, this was the most culturally inclusive documentary (of Hawaii)I have ever seen. I visited Oahu several years ago and although I loved it then, this showed me what I missed!
There is a movie on UA-cam called “ Liliuokalani “ nice history start . I think it shows the true nature of the amazing people… Was blessed to have lived there in late 78 to 83 . Hawaii no ka oi, Aloha.
This documentary hit me right in the feels. I was just on Oahu from 27 Aug to 30 Aug and on Maui from 30 Aug to 4 Sept. Such a magnificent experience, I miss it.
M😮st of the food I get 😊n the big island is harvested from mauka to makai, or bardered or we share n give, some items off course is purchased, our meats, seafoods, veggies come from da aina, n kai
It’s a sacred place with a lot of spiritual energy and magical vibes. Found a few sunrise shells in my time there. Wish I had come across a menehune though!
O'Ahu is a very special sacred place with a lot of cultural history and a bit of a stronghold on the economics of the archipelago, but I would not call it the epicenter of Hawaiian culture nor its heart and soul. Its in many ways the heart of the destruction of Hawaiian soul and culture as so many native Hawaiians have lost their physical and ancestral homes to the spread of mass tourism and the take-over of land by big resorts leading to natives who can no longer afford to live here and would rather be homeless than to leave. It was my home for most of my life, but its unlikely I could ever afford to live here again. I feel such sorrow for those who are lost and for those who come and only experience it in the primarily superficial way that they do. It is so much more and being destroyed everyday. Please learn to pronounce our names correctly. Aloha
Oahu is called "The Gathering Place" by ancient Hawaiians for a reason and the Ali'is did choose to live here instead of the other islands. The Bishop Estate is the largest private land owner in the state and one of the richest in the US with 5 Trustees each making almost a million $ a year. The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is also incredibly wel-funded to handle native Hawaiians issues. The Kamehameha School is one of the most well-endowed private schools in the US that is 100% free to those of Hawaiian blood. (It's their management, leadership, and yes, fault that native Hawaiians are being spaced out due to affordability.) Of all the Polynesian cultures proliferating throughout the world, the Hawaiian hula has become the strongest, most enriched and creative dance form as seen in the annual Merrie Monarch Festivals. Compared that to other parts of Polynesia, either left on their own, or taken over by other past empires like France, Spain, or England, you can see that their art, culture, people, and economy didn't progress nearly as well as Hawai'i with the US. Do they even have established and well-known star-navigation society like the Hokulea even though that was how ALL of Polynesia used to travel? How about Tahiti, Fiji, and New Zealand for examples. None of those have nearly the wealth of cultural troops and creative content like Hawai'i does here. Without American ideas, promotion, and ways of doing things, would Hawai'i still become this culturally, powerfully, and financially rich itsy bitsy piece of land in the vast Pacific, or would it have become just another, um, Kiribati? 😉
Where is Ariel Sellers ,? If they so rich why didn't help her parents find a home instead take their children away now the foster parents says she went missing ? This child was abused , by the Foster parent that just adopted in February , why did the police only look for 1 week , human trafficking is going on there , No more the world eyes are now on Oahu Waimanois
The only nicer place I've been on vacation than Oahu was a trip to Maui. Hawaii is absolutely incredible, but far too expensive for the average person. And even despite the high costs, the population just keeps rising and rising, and it's more built up over time. Everyone wants a piece of what are very small, finite islands.
@@zigmeisterxiv they are pretty much equal dude. Though the reasons are different. For example we cannot have certain goods delivered directly here. It has to go to Cali prior and then here upping the price such as milk for $10 on average.
Spent about a month on vacation in Oahu this past August/ September was truly an amazing experience! Though it is small island even after visiting for a month there is still things I didn't get to see or do and wish to make another trip there to do those things. Best tip I can give to someone visiting is to rent a car to explore island and is really is best way to get to see the most from this island and can be much cheaper than paying for random tours. Also I am pretty sure that diving girl is famous now for her work with some massive great whites there (if is same person, then happy for her)!
I am so blessed to be living here temporarily, iv been here 4 months so far and I have another 2 and half years until I finish college here. The people are so nice and kind and caring, all the Hawaiin people want is to be respected and for tourists to respect the island and the islands soul. My dorm sits facing the manao valley, I get to sit here when I'm doing work and star at the green valley and whach the clouds come down from the windward side and rainbows everyday. I'm from washington, so iv never swam in the ocean until I moved here and it still blows my mind that it's November and instill swim atleast once a week. I'm hoping thay when I leave I will have helped the island and it's people in some way and leave it better then it was when I got here.
I was stationed on Oahu for 3.5 years and have visited 8 times since getting out of the Military. Now when we visit we just go directly to the Big Island. I do love Oahu, but it's so much more populated than the Big Island, and I go to Hawaii to get away from the city life and crowds.
My Kaikamahanie , Larae , and Ohana live in Kaneohe Oahu. She works at the Kualoa Ranch. I'm planning to move there in a few months. Thank you for this great video
Amazing Information about a place that is beautifully thankful to mother Nature by making it's blessings a part of their life forever. Thanks for sharing.
I loved every minute of this! Showing the simplicity of nature and those who know how to coexist with it in the modern day - in the true "Aloha" spirit! ∞♥∞
Born and raised on Oahu... I'm 46 years old now and had to move away from my home 3 years ago because I couldn't afford to live there anymore! I miss home so much, but I've been priced out of paradise. Not wanting to bring politics into this, but Hawaii is a blue state and will always be part of the old boys club. We have stints of red which brought about much needed change and benefits to the people.... but because Hawaii is comprised of a lot of immigrants who blindly follow the blue promises without questions, there's hardly any room for change. The medan price for a 2 bedroom condo get close to a million dollars... I want to move back home! But I fear it'll never be realized. ...aside from that... Hawaii is the most beautiful state I've ever witnessed... no other stat compared. OH and we have the most beautiful and welcoming people you in the world.
You mean an American illegal military occupation and Hawaiian culture killer. This video is just another prostitution of our islands. Over exploited. The narrator didn’t even word check his hawaiian word pronunciations. He is so far off track, that he actually lies.
I really enjoyed watching the video... And I learned a few new things about Hawaii and the rich culture... . I look forward watching other videos you make and narrate.
Loved this documentary on such an incredible island on earth - Oahu. Never been there though after watching this, I aspire to visit someday... Thanks for sharing.
Do you honestly expect someone that has never, or likely never will, spend enough time in Hawai‘i to learn the proper pronunciations? Let alone a narrator that’s from a different country. Chill out bro, aloha
Aloha always enjoy your beautiful 🤩 sweet sweet home 🏡 and very special sweet Hawaiian 🌺 thank you for sharing this with everyone’s family members and friends thank you 🙏❤️🌺❤️🌺❤️🌺🤩👋👋👋😃😃😃
I lived in hawaii on the North shore all my entire life and now reside in Texas, yes it's a beautiful island but everything is just way too expensive and poorly run state and bad politics.
I have lived in both Texas and Hawaii (currently) and although I miss the amazing BBQ and Southern Soul food of Texas, and a few great friends.....Oahu wins in just about every other category.

Oahu looks like a tree stump. Like the lave forest, just much bigger. Beautiful place.
Just saying but I would also say that Oahu is also a place where people remember the victims of the infamous Pearl Harbor Attack
You literally would never wanna leave this island after visiting. Great people, cultural, and energy! An ENTIRE vibe.
Oahu is the most beautiful of the other islands in my opinion. The most vibrant
The people are uneducated, awful hicks, but it's a beautiful place

I love all his misprouncments. I am half hawaiian but have lived in Indiana all my life, so I always sound funny when I run into true hawaiians.
Pretty sure it's an AI bot. Even the dumbest British person should know the King's name isn't pronounced "Kommy-Ha-Ha".
Standing up by the water just splashing with all those big waves. I would love to visit and learn more about nature. Thanks for sharing.
Felt more freedom there than most travels
What?
What does that mean?
@@robertcronin6603 so you know what freedom is
You must have not went shopping with your sisters
@@Iplayforhim16 do not travel with my sisters they have husbands
Beautiful....I will visit Hawaii soon.
👍💁🌹🙅
Wow, it is very beautiful and peaceful. 😍😍! Great Documentary Channel as always.
Hey you. Yes you random person that i will never meet.I wish you a calm, successful and healthy life forever! Peace❤️
This place sounds like a wonderful place to visit. The peoples are very similar to my Caribbean peoples.
I’m from Hawaii. I would totally agree. I still remember my first trip to Caribbean and how amazed I was at how similar we are. Pure Islanders
Hello 👋.. Happy 😃 Sunday, how are you doing today?
I was stationed on Oahu for 3.5 years and have visited 8 times since getting out of the Military. Now when we visit we just go directly to the Big Island. I do love Oahu, but it's so much more populated than the Big Island, and I go to Hawaii to get away from the city life and crowds.
8:30 What she said is beautiful and heartwarming. 🌼

Ty for sharing these pictures of Oahu. Though I lived there for many years, you featured aerial views that I have not seen.
I just love to watch documentaries! !
More the better in future.
Thank you.
There is no way I can believe that the lady at 08:20 is "92 years" old 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 love Hawaiian people and culture. Aloha... 😃🏝️🏖️🌋⛰️🌴☺️
THIS IS THE KINGDOM OF HAWAII
My Kaikamahanie , Larae , and Ohana live in Kaneohe Oahu. She works at the Kualoa Ranch.
I'm planning to move there in a few months.
Thank you for this great video
As always thank you Free Doco😷🤙🙏
Amazing Information about a place that is beautifully thankful to mother Nature by making it's blessings a part of their life forever. Thanks for sharing.
Hello 👋.. Happy 😃 Sunday, how are you doing today?
Hawaii is beautiful..no island is the same; unique and beautiful..Mahalo Ohana 🤙🏽🤙🏼
I loved every minute of this! Showing the simplicity of nature and those who know how to coexist with it in the modern day - in the true "Aloha" spirit! ∞♥∞
Waikiki will always be my home 💙
Diamond head
Im sorry you had to leave your home land and I hope you are able to return back very soon to your home 🫶🌴🥥🤙
Lucky I live Hawaii! ❤️🌺🦋🌴🌈🌊
Been living on Oahu since Jan 2014, tbh it gets old but is always beautiful. Still here though lol
That was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Thank you so much for sharing these beautifully cultured lands. 🌼

You mean an American illegal military occupation and Hawaiian culture killer. This video is just another prostitution of our islands. Over exploited. The narrator didn’t even word check his hawaiian word pronunciations. He is so far off track, that he actually lies.
just BEAUTIFUL! HAWAII YOU HAVE MY HEART!💖💖💜
Aloha Your video was great and informative. Thanks.
Love Oahu. Lived there 5 years, and I would love to return there. Thanks for the video. Hope to see other islands.
Those big waves are amazing.... Seen it in the movie "point break ".
I really enjoyed watching the video... And I learned a few new things about Hawaii and the rich culture...
.
I look forward watching other videos you make and narrate.
It has beauty, weather’s perfect but costly!
Loved this documentary on such an incredible island on earth - Oahu. Never been there though after watching this, I aspire to visit someday... Thanks for sharing.
Pretty good documentary... The filming was awesome, kudos to the camera crew/editors...
Chinese, Hawaiian, and white roots. Sure glad PC culture has not flagged your incredible video.
Besides slaughtering some of the Hawaiian words, I was a pleasure watching this great documentary.
Do you honestly expect someone that has never, or likely never will, spend enough time in Hawai‘i to learn the proper pronunciations? Let alone a narrator that’s from a different country.
Chill out bro, aloha
Beautiful and Colourful Environment...😊love it...😍i'm from sri lanka.
Aaaah beautiful Hawaii! Paradise🙂 maybe I can have a chance to visit someday.... I've got relatives there😀🙂😄🤣😇

I ❤ HAWAII
Beautiful great destination for healthy lifestyle
I lived in hawaii on the North shore all my entire life and now reside in Texas, yes it's a beautiful island but everything is just way too expensive and poorly run state and bad politics.
I lived twenty years in Texas, and forty on Maui. I respectfully disagree. Hawaii takes care of its people, and especially women, much better.
As someone who’s lived in both places as well, I got the opposite impression.
I have lived in both Texas and Hawaii (currently) and although I miss the amazing BBQ and Southern Soul food of Texas, and a few great friends.....Oahu wins in just about every other category.
Agree
Just like the former-beautiful San Francisco. Criminals and feces run the sidewalks.
Thank you for this wonderfully relaxing music 🌳 I was able to sleep very relaxed and deeply.❤❤
I love Hawaii ❤️
