- Matt Reeves Explained Why He Rejected Ben Affleck's Script for the Batman and eventually went with His Own Idea instead. He LOVED Ben's Script saying it was Very Action Packed James Bond Type Story with lots of DCEU characters appearing from other Movies and Batman Comics. But it wasn't working for Matt Reeves, who tried to walk away from Directing the Movie altogether. Unless WB Gave Matt Full Creative control to Make His the BATMAN Movie without WB's interference.

No one should blame Matt Reeves, cause by the time he actually legitimately got to to working on the script for The Batman. Ben was already planning on leaving as Ben has said in interviews over the past few months the reshoots of JL is what made him want to give up the role. No one is to blame for Ben’s exist except for WB suits and their minions that got involved with the JL2017 disaster. I am so stoked for The Batman I believe it’s gonna be my favorite comic book film of all time it looks amazing and I think Pattison will be the best live action Batman after it’s all said and done. Maybe once Discovery takes over and IF they ask Zack to finish his story on HBOMAX or something then maybe Batfleck could return and he could make his Batman story. But who knows.
Whilst I was initially disappointed Ben left the role, I no longer mind him leaving for multiple reasons. The first being that “The Batman” looks incredible, and as a fan of Robert Pattinson’s recent work, I can’t wait to see him in the role, he’s gonna be great. The second reason, and most important, is that Ben Affleck is happy now. Since walking away, he’s overcome his addictions and gotten so much healthier. Overall, I think Affleck leaving the role is ultimately best for everyone.
Some diehard Affleck fans will still be bitter about it
I'm in the same boat. I love Ben in the role, but it's a good thing he prioritized his mental health over an acting role.
Love affleck, but it seems most of the his fans only wants him for his action fight scenes. Batman is more than an action super hero and i guess most of you know that. I'm glad affleck is in his happy place and continuing to recover from the hard life thats thrown at him

Nothing but respect for how Matt Reeves handled. Held his ground but handled everyone with class.
Matt Reeves can surpass Nolan if he keeps holding his ground and not let the studio boss him around.

Still want to see Ben’s movie. I’m perfectly fine with Matt Reeve’s being able to do the movie he wants but it feels like Ben wasn’t given that chance. And they can both coexist.

Matt Reeves has the right idea about his film because now we finally get to see a Batman that will never kill and yes I would like to see Ben Affleck as Batman in a HBO Max series .
I think Warner Bros went off tangent by trying to emulate the success of Avengers and rushing out Justice League, but realised later that they could be different and equally successful when Joker was released. And that's why they went back with more artsy directors, just as they did before with Nolan.
I’d rather have Matt Reeves Batman movie than Ben’s movie. It felt like Ben never wanted to actually make it. It was a pipe dream and that’s why Ben left as Batman. He couldn’t even direct it.
I honestly feel like Ben Affleck leaving the Batman role was the best decision he made, and I thought he was a great Batman. That being said, you could tell with Batman v Superman and Whedon's Justice League not being financial or critical successes, it left him feeling rather annoyed plus he was also dealing with a divorce, a drinking problem and of course the trauma of his experience with Whedon and the studio interference. I feel like Matt Reeves should be given a lot of respect for coming in and being honest about Ben's script, he didn't call it trash or call it amazing, he acted professional and the truth is, he didn't want to replace Ben. Matt obviously wanted to make The Batman Trilogy with a younger Batman actor, but he also wanted it to be about the 20 year history of Ben's Batman, and if Ben had agreed to that, then he would be able to continue playing Batman in the DCEU. Of course that didn't happen but it was for the best for Ben's sake. I feel as though the Snyder fans should respect Ben Affleck's decision to step away from everything since they have respect for his Batman, but I don't expect them to behave this way because it's just who they are unfortunately, and they should respect the fact that Matt Reeves handled everything professionally and stood his ground to have no studio interference with his movie. The fans should really give Ben Affleck a break and give him time to process and heal and maybe he will feel refreshed enough to make his Batman movie after watching Robert Pattinson's The Batman and The Flash movie, which would be great. The Batman is easily my most anticipated movie of 2022, especially with how much of a mess the DCEU is, and it's honestly everything that I've wanted as a huge Batman fan.

I actually really liked Ben affleck as Batman, yes there were some elements I was not a fan of. But I really liked that he was a very comic book Batman. But I do really like what I’ve seen so far from Matt reeves and I have complete faith that what reeves does will be great.
I'm bitter at the fact Ben is gone but I'm not angry at Robert Pattinson but with Warner Brothers

I agree with pretty much everything you said. Maybe besides the whole "complete control, and it's done when it's done" thing. I understand that the studio can't breath down their necks, but they can't invest literally half of a billion dollars into a film production and the marketing, then say go do whatever and come back whenever you're done. I really like The Affleck version, but I just can't get past the mass murder.

No matter what, Ben's Batman was built on a rocky foundation as seen by just how out of sorts WB was and still is to this day. Just the ultimate case of wrong place, wrong time, wrong circumstances to make Batfleck work, unfortunately. With Reeves, we get a clean slate with a bonafide director creating a solid foundation of his own design. Fair or unfair, the ball is in his court now and believe it or not, things kinda worked out for everybody. With all that being said, I'm quite excited to see The Batman in theaters but I'd also love to read the unproduced script(s?) that had Affleck in mind.
I think Ben's version could be interesting but I am excited for Matt Reeves' version. That said if Affleck was willing to work on his movie again then I would like see Hbomax and WB give us that opportunity. With the Discovery merger happening soon I don't know what the future will hold for HBOmax though
Honestly, I don't mind Batman v Deathstroke not happening. While I enjoyed the Snyder Cut version of JL and the BvS. I never really enjoyed the idea of Batman being in mostly action driven movies. What makes Nolan's movies so good is that Batman goes through mental struggles and dilemmas. The Batman fight scenes in the TDR trilogy were mediocre at best however the movies remain as some of the most iconic CB movies of all time. This goes to show how crucial a story driven movie is when it comes to Batman.
Tbh I didn't mind ben as batman but this is probably for the best I think they needed a change and this might be it fingers crossed
I'm more excited for Matt's version, but imagine if Ben returns to direct Rob's Batman in Batman 4 or an episode in one of the spinoff shows they're making.

I'm actually quite fine with it. Affleck really isn't leaving, he just wants to work in the Snyderverse DC era. That's the only reason that he's not playing as the Batman in the WB movie. He doesn't care to star in any WB movies. That and WB doesn't want him, Cavill, or any part of Snyder in their movies. Come Discovery merger time though, the Snyderverse will return seeing as how they show major interest in it. Both will also return to the DC at that time too.
WB really wanted to jettison the snyderverse and after josstice league I see why ben dropped it altogether.
Still hyped for THE BATMAN, looks like a fantastic film.
I'm extremely excited for The Batman movie, but I'd still like to see Ben Affleck's Batman, whether it be a movie or HBO Max series.

I think fans of Batfleck should understand that he doesn't want to do it anymore and live on with it. If he ever goes back as Batman that would be great but for now just support his current endeavor.
I think Batman not killing is an integral part of his character. Its something that everybody knows, but has never witnessed on the big screen. My favorite scene in The Dark Knight Rises was when all the citizens of Gotham did their part in rallying to Batman's side to defend their city. And I just can't see Batman having that same power if he goes out every night killing people who are less fortunate than him. Most of Batman's rogues are just as much victims as he is, only they didn't come from a rich background so it just never sat right with me.
There are actually a few Batman villains who came from a rich background. Some lost their fortune, some gained it back. The Penguin, Black Mask, Mr. Zsasz, Hush

I never liked Ben Affleck's Batman and how dark it was. I mean even the other films and the Snyder cut did not help out. I would have like to see what would have happen if Batman DID Kill Deathstroke like Deathstroke wanted him to just to see how far he has fallen because I do not think that it was done well enough before.
It Suck Ben was Screwed like that but i will gived chance to this movie even know i'm not fan of Pattison as actor but let see what he can do.
While I respect Matt Reeves decision and you know I'm glad that he gets to do what he wants to do but me as a fan of Batman in general and seeing how he wanted to create something different that's fine but to me what he showed me is a knock-off version of Christopher Nolan's Batman stuff that he already did which if people want that that's fine that's great. But for me I can't give Matt Reeves Batman movie a chance because I was waiting for being affleck's Batman movie I was patient with a lot of things that one Brothers deal with the DCEU and to have that rejected and then do something new and then ask me to be like okay can you give this movie a chance when you want to let Ben Affleck movie have a chance I can understand if you have Ben Affleck's movie and it failed then you rebooted but to not give him a chance at all you know it's kind of crazy you know. So I'm glad that people are going to be able to enjoy this Batman but I can tell it's not for me and nor do I care about the Matt Reeves Batman movie nor will I support it to be honest but hey if people want to watch it that's great I'm just saying for me it's not the movie for me.

The batman is easily my favorite standalone batman movie, but ben affleck is my favorite batman, and the fact that he never got a movie still annoys me a lot
i think ben just lost his interest for the character and also he had his personal issues too (these are his thoughts btw) and bringing someone else to direct was the right choice.
Director like in Matt Reeves standards absolutely knows how flawed was josstice league and if anyone make a script that connects to josstice league, then directors like Matt Reeves will absolutely never agree to it. Ben initially made the script to connect with zjl, but after josstice league everything changed. Goeff johns forced Ben to change the script so that it will connect with josstice league. If they had made Batfleck movie it would have definitely been Josstice league sequel. But thank god it never happened and Matt Reeves never accepted that script. Imagine if Matt Reeves accepted and they made batfleck movie, it will be totally josstice league sequel and we wouldn't have got snyder true movie.
Warner Bros. Or Warner in general have been running the DC content like a bunch of Salty Haters with personal agendas. Ben Afleck and his writers are Academy Award caliber talent. Matt Reeves and James Gun are good directors but not as proven as Ben and company. I mean I liked the ape movies but the final one was average. James Gunn had a 1 hit with Guardians I. So between them they have 2 movies that were good which were those 2. And with that resume they come to DC and are given pretty much all the freedom to make the movies they want. I believe that The Batman which the advertising for that movie us amazing and rivals Marvel. And I have this feeling that THE Batman movie will be bad but just like endgame will make tons of money even if it is bad the advertising for end game was like nothing I had ever seen before and I’m getting the same vibe with the Batman. He has me nervous because he mentioned the Ben Afleck version to have more action than he wants and characters he wants to avoid using. Well then he can go eff himself

frank miller batman wasnt a killer at all .....the dark knight returns is one of the best examples of why batman dont kill even against the mutant army he uses rubber bullet,he snapped jokers head in the end because he knew joker would not stop killing and thinking of how many has died beacause of him and joker didnt even died from that he turns his whole head by himself and dies

There is also The Joker. Yeah people debate it but Batman snaps The Joker's neck and hallucinates The Joker killing himself. There is also a debatable panel from the comic that was changed in the animated movie where Batman uses the gun to shoot a guy. It's debated where Batman shoots the guy but there is blood splatter
@@thenoirknight5729 Batman didn't killed anyone in tdkr It was just some assumption made by some fans Frank Miller started to show him as a killer in his later works which were heavily criticised and are considered some of the worst Batman stories why would someone get inspired from those, and zack Snyder said in many interviews that he was inspired from tdkr not the later stories still he made batman kill and that was his own choice not inspiration

I think an R-rated Batman movie would work. I think it would be a light R though like ZSJL was. Mr. Zsasz, The Scarecrow (hallucinations/Fear Gas), Deadshot, Deathstroke, The Joker, Professor Pyg all can have an R-rating. Even Hush, The Penguin, and Black Mask. Solomon Grundy aswell depending on how he's used. Killer Croc too

If you think about a majority of Batman's rogues gallery are super messed up the Joker, Professor Pyg, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, Solomon Grundy and more could be enhanced by the R rating. Imagine seeing what a grotesque Joker vemon does to people or the mindless zombies Professor Pyg makes. An R-rating and Batman should go hand in hand when you doing some of the most vile characters as the villain.

Since this Batman is year 2 it can grow from here establishing more stories of what makes Batman, Batman. Start a batfamily, have other directors make movies of members of the justice league making it the EARTHPRIME/main universe
After watching "The Batman," I still would have rather gotten the Batfleck film instead.
This will NEVER happen but it’d be cool if they let Robert Pattinson have his own trilogy then they can make a sequel trilogy but have Ben affleck play an older bulkier version of Robert Pattinson.
