I love this video, as a designer, it really encourages me in different directions than I would normally think. What an absolute wizard Pirinen is! the concept of all getting together for a big tournament just to have a quick break to talk to the guy who MADE THE GAME is ridiculous, I want to do that! That's my new plan next time I get a big group of friends together for a party, invite a celebrity to give a presentation + Q&A, then continue gaming
I also work on games on the side, and this interview was really groundbreaking for me in terms of the craft. Tuomas really does a great job of boiling down the fundamentals to what helps a game stand the test of time.
Such a fantastic interview, it's nice to hear Tuomas' thoughts and insights behind the creation of Mordheim. The energy and love and creativity of the community around the game have rippled out for decades and rather than peter out have only grown stronger with time, it truly is incredible. The game was just such a wildcard right from the get go, it wasn't just "Fantasy Necromunda", it had strengths all of it's own off the back of the art and creative force that went into it. The atmosphere was dark but absurd. The British humour can still be read under the grimness of the setting, I've always found there to be many parallels with Terry Gilliam's works in Warhammer in general. And as a Yorkshireman the remark on Dwarfs sharing our accent not a Scots one gave me a chuckle :D Thank you for this video, it was a very entertaining watch, take care ;)
What a great presentation! Thank you for sharing, it’s so nice to have all these amazing insights on the creation of a game that despite having never personally played, still manages to inspire me so much thanks to all of the passionate players crafting miniatures, warbands, scenery, tables, stories and art with such dedication and sharing it with the lot of us! And bravo for what seems to have been an incredible event 🙌
@@tabletop.wizards My pleasure. Looking forward to seeing more content from you. My love for Warhammer almost died when AoS came about, but Mordheim keeps it alive. My wife plays in my D&D campaign and loves building amazing scenery for it, so I'm passionately trying to get her to fall in love with this game.
Thanks so much for bringing us that interview. What a great insight into the beginnings of the game. What an amazing way to start your tournament as well.
This was a fascinating interview and I only consider myself a distant admirer of Mordheim. Thank you for this - I love how Tuomas was so articulate describing where his mind was at, at the time of the games genesis.
Never been so interested by a UA-cam Video ! I learned lot of stuff, enchanted to see the face of the créator(omg this guy Rocks !) Thanks à million ! (Playing Mordheim for 20 year in Belgium). PS: What was the result of the tournement ?
I was playing Gorkamorka back then so missed out on Mordheim apart from seeing it being played in the shop but now 20 years later i am hooked ha, thanks alot.
This is why I prefer skirmish-style games in general. Low model count is more accessible to everyone. Not everybody has $400 to drop on an army. Money should never be the barrier of entry for a game.
Big shout-out to Tuomas for giving us his presentation, and answering our questions. What an amazing guy!
And shout out to you for setting it up!
What a great presentation. Toumas is such a cool guy, even over 20 years later he's still so enthusiastic about Mordheim. It's awesome.
"If we destroy the world there isn't much minature game to play"
Boy I wish they remember that 15 years later
Facts!
Guys, Thanks so much. Great to realise that there are more people still in love with Mordheim. Best from Frankfurt Germany, Jochen
It's a global community 20+ years later. Mordheim truly is something special!
Had the privilege of working on Lustria and meeting Tuomas and the design team. That got my start in games design. He's an absolute legend.
How cool! Yes, he is!

We were playing a narrative campaign to find the lost count steinhardt. Ultimately, an undead warband with a vampire found and murdered him.
I was playing Gorkamorka back then so missed out on Mordheim apart from seeing it being played in the shop but now 20 years later i am hooked ha, thanks alot.
Thanks for watching the video!
A great and inspiring interview. Thank you!
My pleasure! Tuomas was a blast to chat with!
Such a fantastic interview!
It was really fun chatting with him. Thank you for watching!
Great video and it’s amazing to hear the passion that still exists for this game
Tuomas swears that it is more popular than ever! And I think he's right!
Nice, thanks for upload!
Thank you for watching!
Great video, Tuomas is a champ!
Couldn't agree more!
Does anyone know where I can get the Sister Models around 11.30 min?
Long live Mordheim!
They look like the models from heresylab.
Long live Mordheim!
Omg, I love the Rise of Skywalker rant, so, so true!!!
Yeah, that was great rant 🤣
Tuomas what a guy🙏
He's a legend
Thanks for this amazing video 🤩
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this!
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
Back from the days when a 20 man box set, a blister pack, and stuff out of your bits box would give you plenty of options for warbands...
This is why I prefer skirmish-style games in general. Low model count is more accessible to everyone. Not everybody has $400 to drop on an army. Money should never be the barrier of entry for a game.
What a dude! Long may the irreverent punk energy of early GW reign! Grim Dark and Daft!
Great video
This was sooo epic!!!
Yes, It was!
A bit late... but what a nostalgic ride:) did Thuomas ever get that sword back? Airport confiscation, back in tha white dwarf 150-200ish days
I’m sorry but what a f-ing legend.
Agreed!
cool, warm fuzzy all around
Mordheim: so 'dark fantasy' that it makes us feel warm and fuzzy
👍
Thanks for watching!
amazing video
Thank you!!!
Mordheim with warcry campaign and kill team combat rules would be amazing.
Great stuff.. :) I love Mordheim.. Made a new Orc /& a little Gobbos..) warband this summer.. ^^
Cool! Send us a picture on our Instagram! Would love to see them!
@@tabletop.wizards Oh, I would love to! I will figure that out. on´t really use IG but..
