I’m heartbroken over the condition of this cemetery. I wonder if there has been a lot of changes to the community in the last 20 years, such as the loss of a lot of industries that provided jobs.
On Find a Grave, photos from 2016, the place appeared to be in good condition. Wonder what happened. Maybe new ownership. Maybe some volunteers can be of assistance. 1) maintain grave sites the best they can. 2) add graves to find a grave with photos (preferably cleaned up) 3) assist with getting funds to fix damaged headstones or figure out what’s causing the ground to cave in.
My grandparents are buried at this cemetery - up on the hill. As a child, on Sunday afternoons, my family would go to the cemeteries to maintain the family graves. My brother and I were allowed to walk around, and often peeked into recently dug graves that were covered with a board to "see if anyone was in it." LOL We'd sometimes see just the hole, sometimes the cement box, and sometimes the cement box with the lid on, just waiting for the hole to be filled. This cemetery definitely had paupers graves buried way in the back. Wood boxes were used and people were placed in unmarked graves. (They would do large burials of 20-30 indigent and unknown people at a time) I recall in the mid-1970's the area flooded, and the wood boxes floated up. They reburied what rose to the surface. As far back as I can remember this cemetery has always been poorly maintained, and the mosquitos are ferocious in the summer months. Quite sad.
Sir, I've just discovered your channel, and it's fantastic. I'm not from the US, nor do I live anywhere near it. But your videos are touching and very interesting to watch. Thank you!
Do prisons over there, or boy scouts, still have work groups? This sad, shoddy cemetery sure could use them Bryan. I loved the simplicity of the Kean mausoleum. Thanks for another little bit of your American history. Deb of Oz.
Those sunken graves are interesting of what's going on. Yes, I've heard it was life extinguished. some farm animals make strange sounds so I can guaranty its animal's people are hearing
