So Eduard went from having the best decals, to having the worst. Well done. I'm certainly no buying any more new Eduard kits until they give this nonesense up.
Totally agree. I’ll be doing the same . It’s a real shame. Their decals were the highlight of the package !.
Thank goodness there's Cartograf !!
Once down leave your decals for at least 24 hours to properly sit down and dry/set, then use masking tape to start lifting the top film layer (even though Eduard say the top layer is not designed to be removed). As you peel off the masking tape (straight on and off, applying medium pressure) the film starts to lift off. Of course it probably won’t lift off the entire decal film but it will lift enough to leave edges that are easy to get to with tweezers. A couple of tries maybe required. This has worked for me every time. I haven’t lost a decal since using this method. I agree though, it was daft for Eduard to start reinventing the wheel. Perhaps it’s a cost saving manoeuvre?
If the masking tape doesn't tear the decals -- which it does half the time 🙄. No, thanks. I'm not going to spend hours assembling a good (possibly expensive) model and paint it up carefully just to have the whole build wrecked by bad decals. You can have 'em.
I'm sure they look fantastic!! But playing around with scalpel and tweezers so close to a painted surface is invariably going to lead to accidents. What about when you get to the tiny stencils? I'll give them a try, but I'm not convinced.
I was thinking of getting the Spitfire story boxing of the new spit as there was a scheme I really wanted to do. However I think I'll give it a miss and look for other options as I really don't fancy having the hassle of those decals 🤔
They need to go back to Cartograf for decals. These just don't work and leaving the film is not an option...I love Eduard Kits but theses new decals stink.
wow... looks like scalpel is the best option. I need to try this.. which other sheets that you have made will work like this? Will the Chatanooga choo choo boxing of the P-51 work like this?
yes, every decals since Chatanooga.
So far no one I've seen use them has got the film off without damaging the decal. Looks a bad idea to me. Hopefully the aftermarket decal guys will jump on this but you should have to pay out more money because the supplied item is no good.
I have this kit in the stash and am now worried about spoiling it due to the decals. As Eduard appear not to have infomed us about this change maybe they should print off a standard type of decal and and offer to replace the new style and we just pay postage.
Excelente!!!!
Pěkné video klucí. Podpořím vás a dávám odběr. Držím palce ať se vám daří. 😎👍
i tried yesterday to put the right under-wing decal of my Eduards spit unsuccessfully! very disappointed not going to buy ant of the Eduards kit anymore unless they bring back the Cartograf ones!!!!
Yeah, I don't think metal tools are the best option for the job. A simple toothpick would work the same with way lesser risk to the paint
Sharp is sharp.
These look like a shit idea to me. Fraught with much danger. You will really have to be confident your decal has stuck.
Plus what's with the hatching on the codes.. Is that correct? I've not seen that sort of thing on photos.
What's about the very very small stencils, won't they come with the film as well ? Have we so much hours to lose simply to fix Eduard's issues ?
Im wondering, why inventing the wheel new. There was an English company making vacu kits in the 1990s which had a similar style of decals. But the top layer was basically immediately removable.
clearfix by maintrack models is what you are thinking about , they were very good decals and worked fantastically .
@@gavinblackburn3105 Actually no. The company was called something with Hangar or so. The decals were not marked, so I don’t know if they were also made by them or they were supplied by someone else.
Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to do this? Decals are at some times not the best of things to do...if it ain’t broken don’t bloody try and fix it!! Absolutely bizarre why Eduard decided to do this....
are you filming this on a potato?
Wow. Who thought these would be a good idea? The process of removing that clear film will lead to accidents - some of which we see in this video. And the final result looks dreadful, thanks to the poor print quality.
All that work for the rough look? Not good.
The X-20 method can be good to make it look whethered, but both look dangerous
Many disadvantages are obvious immediately. In neither of methods did the print go deep down into panel lines. In the first method you can easily scrap the surface finish, in the second you erase significant part of the print and also can't work on any paint surface. Both methods are too much time consuming. Maybe this will become the new standard like prepainted etched parts, but like them, wouldn't bring any real progress.
Don't. Just don't. They're supposed to settle in to the contours better, but what's the point if you're left with a silvery film? 🤨
