    Going thin on your sealer applications (400 sq. ft./gal.) and spraying the solvent you used as your tool cleaner back into your solvent- based sealer container are great tips and makes perfect sense after seeing it done.

    Hey Mike - thank you so much for taking the time to share this information and for putting together such a helpful video. After clicking through a few other 'how to seal' videos, I quickly realized yours was the most comprehensive. Thanks for not skipping steps and taking a step-by-step approach. Appreciate it. I think I've finally got the information (and courage) I need to re-seal our patio next spring. Take care.

    I followed this video to seal my driveway and patio three years ago, and I'm reviewing as I prepare to do it again. However, I won't be using AR350. It turned out great initially, but the sealer started turning a milky-white sheen in random areas after about six months. Then, it began to show significant wear after a year. The sealer is all but gone three years later.

    Great video. I tried the xylene this weekend and it looked good when laced but when it dried I seen all of the grey /dry spots re appear. I think it needs to be stripped and re applied. I’m going to purchase your recommended stealer from Amazon. I noticed after applying the xylene after 2 days it feels crunchy when walked on it . I’m going to strip and remove it asap.

    I had a stamped patio done. The stamping didn't come out the best with the lines in the pattern. It's a basic square and rectangle design. Can I ask them to grind the missing lines in? I know the color might be off, but I feel like it would look better than have them missing.

    Looking for your video on stripping old sealer before applying new sealer to stamped/colored concrete that you mentioned at 15:30 of this video. I am from Michigan and using Euclid Chemical products and was told to roll xylene on and let sit for a bit and then wipe off with rags to keep from harming grass/plants in the area and making a mess?? They said a couple applications might be needed to remove all/most of old sealer.

    The concrete company we hired 3 years ago put color on as a top layer with the sealer. We need to reseal. Do you think the color will "revive" with the new sealer? Can we test it ahead somehow? They left alot of bubbles and now there are white spots like you describe, but we are afraid maybe the white could also be where the sealer is no longer covering and possibly leaving us just gray concrete without color? ??? I am anxious to try your methods. You do a GREAT job explaining. We bought the things in your links, also! (Except a lacquer sealer we already have)

    Mike, we have smooth stained concrete floors throughout our house. Everywhere there is a crack in the concrete and next to most of the baseboard the concrete sealer is turning white. It's very unsightly, and I would like to address it. How would you do this in an enclosed area? Can you spot seal to get rid of the white areas? Do you have to do the whole floor?

    This works good if you are just doing your annual re-sealing maintenance and the sealer is sightly dull, but not de-laminating. (That's assuming you used the correct sealer/ commercial sealer initially.) If you have multiple sealer layers that are failing, or lacquer-based sealers that are failing (aka, de-lamination) this won't work very well to remove the exfoliating sealer. Only the weakest peeling sealer will come off with this method. But remember, this machine could also further loosen more of the competent sealer. It could be daunting. So, if you are trying to restore the concrete stain (i.e., re-staining the concrete) or removing de-laminating sealer, you must remove ALL of the topical sealer. We have a cost-effective way to remove it using mechanical AND chemical stripping techniques. Stripping a sealed, stamped concrete slab (in preparation for re-staining or re-seaing) is generally considered the contractor's worst nightmare. We do those "nightmares" regularly, successfully. Re-sealing over de-laminating sealer creates a bigger and bigger headache later. It's like painting over loose paint. YOU MUST DO PROPER SURFACE PREP. And re-seal the concrete lightly with a sprayer, every year. USE the RIGHT sealer for your area. Certain sealers have miserable UV-resistance and poor weather-resistance. And barrier sealers are the worst because the laminar layer blocks moisture, and poof, eventually moisture pushes it up (de-lamination) and the entire slab turns white (hazy). Concretetransformed.com (PS There is soda blasting which works great, but generally the minimum charges for them to show up is bout $1500.)

    Mike, Great video. My question is to do with my colored stamped concrete that is about 35 days old. I sealed my exposed aggregate walkway a few days ago that was poured at the same time. Some of the "cream" gray color is visible on the exposed aggregate because I believe that the release agent didn't remove it all. It was not evident when wet with water or wet while I was sealing it. I had pressure washed the stamped and the exposed numerous times. Before I seal the colored stamped concrete, I'm thinking I should wash it with a mild muriatic acid solution so I don't end up with the same condition on it. Does that sound correct?
    I didn't put the second coat on the exposed aggregate after I saw what happened to it. Does the acid wash cut through most sealers or will only xylene?

    Many thanks for the comprehensive video Mike. You've given me confidence that I can reseal my concrete patio myself. Part of my patio is covered and part is not. The part that is not covered has little to no sealant on it anymore (as expected). However, the covered portion is still somewhat sealed and glossy (solvent-based). Do I need to strip that old sealant off or can I just cover it with a light coat of new sealant after cleaning it? Again, thank you!

      I have this exact same question, noticed someone else asked it previously too, really wish there had been a reply. However, having rewatched the video after my first coat was applied with the 0.5 gal tip, I think he must be using the 1 gal tip because he’s moving fast and seems to be getting much more consistent even coverage that I was getting. Fortunately the roller helped spread the sealer out more evenly.

    Great video, Mike. It gave me encouragement that we can do this ourselves to restore our 2500 sq ft of stamped concrete (driveway & patios) that have been neglected for 20+ years. The one question I have is about applying the new sealer. I live in Southern California and the stamped concrete gets VERY HOT daily. If I apply the first coat of sealer in the late afternoon/early evening like you suggested (when the concrete is cooling off), is there any problem if I wait until the next morning to apply the second coat? I don't think I'd have enough time to get both coats applied the same day.

    Hi Mike, I followed your directions and I think I did a good job. However, the part of the patio which is exposed to sun and rain ( not covered by the roof) , still has spots that seem like there is no sealer or less sealer than the covered patio. Does this mean I didnt apply enough? Or after 1 month it is normal to fade? I would expect to last longer ( I used the expensive one you mention in the video). I dis the first coat using the sprayer and the roller and the second coat only the sprayer. After 1 month, will it be stupid to wash this part of the patio and reseal it for a third time using a roller? Or I need to power wash again and start all over again? Thanks!

    Hi Mike, I followed your instructions and I am very happy with my results. I purchased the Armor AR350 seal, stainless steel sprayer, the rollers, and even the surface attachment for my power washer. My stamped concrete patio looks even better than when it was originally installed. I do have a question. In the video you recommended sprayer the xylene cleaning agent back into the Armor AR350 solvent drum. Z Helene is not available in Delaware, the replacement is Klein Strip painter’s Solvent. Can the painter’s solvent also be sprayed back into the AR350 solvent?

    • @beardybeardface
      @beardybeardface Рік тому

      I wouldn't. just get another container you can dispose. if the solvent in the sealer matches the cleaning solvent all he's doing is diluting it a little but if you use a different solvent you can ruin the formulation and it might not work next time.

    Great video, Mike. thank you for sharing your expertise. Here is what I have happening. I have cleaned my stamped concrete and was totally amazed, it hasn't looked that good since it was poured. Now my question is, I have a pink sidewalk and patio which was suppose to have a dark brown release on it but I swear that our people forgot that part (it was pink from day one). This was poured about 1994. I was wondering if I could stain the concrete with a brown before sealing it to try and get rid of some of its pinkness. It is worn and tired and you can see a lot of the pebbles at the surface now. How would you suggest that I proceed? I purchased the sealer you recommended and am excited to move forward however I don't want to mess things up. If you think I can stain it what would you recommend?

    First of all, you did a fantastic job explaining and demonstrating the process. Thank you! I used that exact same sealer on our walkway last September. I rolled it on and initially it looked fantastic. Now it looks whitish in places and brittle in other places, but only in areas where the weather really hits it hard and also where we walk. Additionally Xylene is a precious commodity in the state of Maryland, I hoarded several gallons last year while it could be had. Now that it’s not available what other solvent might you suggest? I pressure washed it today and my plan was to go over most of it with a roller and xylene and try to reconstitute it and then decide if I should reseal it with more product. I have a feeling I may have put it down a bit too thick. Any suggestions?

    • @MikeDayConcrete

      Yea, Xylene is the best for thinning it and trying to remove the whiteish areas. You can try Acetone or Laquer thinner also. If it's too thick and needs to be removed you can check out this sealer remover: ua-cam.com/video/66QLH1pMfjY/v-deo.html

      I'd cover it if you're worried about getting some spray on it, I've done this for years so I'm good at not getting any on it.

    Great video by the way Mike. What would you recommend for stripping concrete pavers that were sealed and painted over the years. I used xylene based products and I would like to take it down to the original paver and then just seal it. Any techniques would be helpful. Thanks.

    Is it okay if I use Xylene all over the concrete patio and then do sealer afterwards?
    My stamped patio is 5 years old now and has never been resealed.

    Applied sealer last year and it's already looking really faded, some slight chalking. Should I just try xylene only?

    Great video. What if you want to spray a stamped concrete sidewalk surrounded by artificial grass? Do you need to cover it to protect from overt spray or just avoid it as best as possible?

      Not sure what it would do to artificial grass but someone can be holding a piece of cardboard along the edge while you spray to block any over spray.

    We had a stamped concrete walkway installed almost 4 years ago. Unfortunately we did not reseal it and there are several spots where the color is turned to almost a white color and overall color has faded. The installer used a medium brown release when he did our walkway, but does the release get mixed in with the sealer to give it the brown color again or is just the sealer needed? Our installer also told me to never buy any other sealer products other than the type he used on the job and from the same company, no other companies.

    Great video Mike! Should I have any concerns about leaving the solvent based sealer in the metal sprayer while I wait four hours or so for the first coat to dry? Wouldn't it be eating away at the sprayer's rubber seals over that waiting period? Thanks again.

    • @MikeDayConcrete
      @MikeDayConcrete  4 роки тому +1

      If it's the sprayer like mine it's no problem, the seals are made for it. If it's a cheaper sprayer, you'll want to clean it out in between coatings.

      @@MikeDayConcrete Thanks Mike. I think they raised the price of the Chapin International sprayer you were using to over $200. I'm planning on buying the same brand 1949 red one which is one step down for about $120. Hoping those seals are as good.
      Also, is there a good substitute for Xylene? Apparently it's outlawed here in California. Thanks.

      @@MikeDayConcrete Xylene is outlawed in California. Do you know of anything else (legal in CA) that could be used in place of the Xylene you showed in your video?
      I have everything else you described in this video that is needed for my backyard concrete reseal job. Thanks.

    What pressure are you using on that spinner tool to clean that patio?
