- Once again the colorful rambutan season is here in Sri Lanka. Rambutan is very common everywhere at this time of every year, with a large variety of different bright, reds and yellows in color & different yummy tastes. Still it’s the start of the rambutan season! Rambutan trees, dressed with bright red juicy fruits automatically attracts the village boys, birds and squirrels. Our brother is worse than a small kid! No sooner I mentioned to him to go and pluck some rambutan and when I walked upto the tree, he has already started picking the fruits.
Actually to me a rambutan tree laden with bright red luscious rambutans is like a carnival. You really should experience this phenomenal sight where you won’t feel like taking your eyes off from this blanket of red juicy rambutans hanging everywhere in the tree.
Come to think of it no any Srilankans have ever made any dish out of this Rambutan except to enjoy it as a fruit! So I thought of making a delicious chutney out of rambutan. Trust me its worth trying this chutney with an extraordinary tastes of sweet, sour and salty tastes harmoniously Complimenting each other!
I tried another novel dish out of these juicy rambutans, rambutan Jam! I followed the pineapple jam method and added the rambutans into the mixture. I know you will love this jam as it gives a very fruity subtle flavor mellowing the acidic taste of the pineapple. An ideal jam to spread ontop of the steam cakes. It’s fascinating to look at the unusual color of the decorated butter cake with a layer of translucent crystal color jam and the red colored rambutan on top. I used beetroot juice to color the rambutan because it had given a beautiful red color with that sweet beetroot taste!
I definitely have to tell you about my brothers rambutan drink! I can tell you that It has a unique refreshing, delicious taste because it’s a combo with sweet oranges, black grapes, ginger juice mixed with the yum rambutan juice. This awesome taste gives you another experience when you bite the fruit pieces in this juice with every mouthful . I was a bit upset thinking that my brother might not make his magical juice when I told him that the kitchen has no space for us both! I wouldn’t want to miss his mocktail that tingle my taste buds every time I drink it!

*Please find the English description in the description box | රඹුටන් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේදි ඉතාම සුලභව දකින්නට පුළුවන් පළතුරක්. හැබැයි අවුරුද්දේ එකම එක කාලෙකදි විතරයි හැදෙන්නේ. එක එක පාට එක එක රස වලින් පිරුණු රඹුටන් වර්ග ගොඩක් තියෙනවා. තාම රඹුටන් වාරේ පටන් ගත්තා විතරයි. මේ කාලෙට රතුම රතු පාටට රඹුටන් වලින් පිරිච්ච ගස්වලට ලේන්නු කුරුල්ලො වගේම ගමේ පුංචි ළමයිනුත් ඉබේම ආකර්ෂණය වෙනවා. අපේ මල්ලිත් පොඩි එකා වගේනේ. මම රඹුටන් කඩන්න යං කියලා කිව්ව විතරයි. මම ගහ ළඟට යද්දි එයා රඹුටන් කඩන්න පටන් අරගෙන. රතුපාටට ගෙඩි පිරුණ රඹුටන් ගහක් හරියට කානිවල් එකක් බලනවා වගේ. ඇස් අහකට ගන්න හිතෙන්නෙම නෑ.
කොපමණ රඹුටන් තිබුණත් ඒවා පළතුරක් විදියට කනවා හැර වෙනස් ආහාර වර්ග හදන සිරිතක් අපේ රටේ නැහැ. නමුත් මට හිතුණා රඹුටන් වලින් චට්නියක් හදලත් බලන්න. ඒක හරිම රසයි. ලුණු ඇඹුල් රස එක්ක පැණි රස මතුවෙලා එද්දි දිවට අමුතුම මිහිරක් දැනෙනවා.
ඒ වගේම තමයි රඹුටන් ජෑම්. අන්නාසි ජෑම් හදන විදියටම හදලා ඒකට රඹුටන් එකතු කලා. අන්නාසි වල තියෙන අම්ල රසය රඹුටන් වලින් ගොඩක් දුරට අඩු වෙලා අමුතුම රසයක් ඉස්මතු වෙනවා. ස්ටීම් කේක් එකට මතුපිටින් ගාන්න ඒ ජෑම් මිශ්‍රණය හොඳටම ගැලපුණා. බටර් පාට කේක් එකට ක්‍රිස්ටල් කහපාට ජෑම් ගාලා ඊට උඩින් රතුම රතුපාට කරගත්ත රඹුටන් වලින් සැරසුවම අමුතුම ලස්සනක් ගෙන එනවා. රඹුටන් පොඟවාගන්නෙ බීට් රූට් යුෂ වලින් නිසා අලංකාර රතුපාට වගේම වෙනස්ම රසයකුත් ඒකට එකතුවෙලා තිබුණා.
ආ තව කියන්න අමතක වුණානේ. අපේ මල්ලිගෙ රඹුටන් බීම එකත් හරිම රසයි. පැණි දොඩම්, කළු මිදි, ඉඟුරු යුෂ, රඹුටන් ඉස්ම එක්ක හිතන්න බැරි තරම් අලුත් රසයක් නිර්මාණය වෙලා තිබුණා. අනික පලතුරු කෑලි හැපෙද්දිත් කට ඇතුලෙම අමුතුම මිහිරක් ඇති කරවනවා. කුස්සියේ මේසෙ උඩ ඉඩ නෑ කිව්වම මං හිතුවෙ මල්ලි බීම එක හදන අදහස හිතින් අතෑරලා දාවි කියලා. හැබැයි බැරි වෙලාවත් එහෙම වුණානම් මට අපරාදෙ කියලා හිතේවි.
