I was there. The girl that I had been dating bought the tickets before we broke up. She had great class and decided that we should still go. We were not disappointed. Thanks Eric! Thanks Stacy! What a great day.

Watching this video gives me chills, I was born in 84 and was 9 years old when this happened and I remember watching it like it was yesterday. Listen to how loud that stadium is!! UNBELIEVABLE! The only time I've ever heard it that loud was in the new stadium was during the Jaguars bottlegate game.
I used to set up imaginary defenders (pillow cushions, and other household obstacles) and run through my parents basement pretending I was Eric Metcalf lol!
Been rough since we've been back but things are lookin good with the stooges out as long as they don't draft Manziel we'll be in good shape.

One of the most memorable punt returns ever because it had a little bit of everything, from Metcalf shifting and making his moves, to the fans, being late in the game, down, the Cle-Pit rivalry, Eric taking home 2 that day with the last being the game winner. Yeah, to me, from a kid to now I always remembered this game. NFL Primetime saved this game for last that night…good ole memories..

Man I use to love the Browns vs Broncos..the Byner fumble was just hard to watch..they could have played the Redskins in that Super Bowl..I'am a skins fan and I so wanted to play Cleveland..they just had fans like the Redskins do..they love their team and I have a soft spot for Cleveland..I wanted them to win in the AFC and show that that little team could do it. I hope you guys get it all put right one day..as I hope my redskins can.

I had a presentation to give to a very important client the day after, and I could barely speak from all the screaming I did. I was really nervous about that.
When I walked into the room, half the people I was going to present to were hoarse from all the yelling they did the night before themselves.
    Awesome day, crappy presentation.
    We still got the job.

+Boss Key If there were a reason why Eric Metcalf would've been the Super Bowl XXXIII MVP ('98-'99) for the 1998 Arizona Cardinals, he probably would've deserved the SB MVP honors more so than Mario Bates (Arizona's short yardage running back) anyday.
Believe me, Metcalf being Arizona's SB MVP in '98-'99 just kind of shows how gifted and talented he is on offense and on special teams, whether he can play RB (Running Back), WR (Wide Receiver), KR (Kick Returner) or PR (Punt Returner).

i'm a browns fan from california. i never have stepped foot in ohio. my family is from cuba, my two older brothers were born in miami, but i was born and raised in california. my brothers used to tell me all of the time that i had to be a dolphins fan, but i didn't like the idea of someone telling me what to do. So in 1985 the browns were playing the dolphins in the playoff and were up 21-3 at the half; it was easy to cheer on the browns to my brothers' dismay. needless to say, the dolphins came back and won 24-21 and I never have given up on the browns. it has been a rough few years as a browns fan....

I am not from Cleveland. Not a fan of the Browns. However, THIS original version of the Browns and its fan base is one of the reasons why I came to love this game of football. What Modell did to the city and the generations of fans will never be repaired even with that expansion version that has a different fan base and no connection to the history of that city. If this new version wants to be a winner again, it's got to connect with the history of the city and its roots, not just the football history.

It was great to drink beer and watch the Browns win one against the hated steelers. It was an owsome day for Eric and one of the most memorable games in my life thanks to him. Boy I miss winning, I love the Browns but it's been to long now and what we did to our classic great uniforms is a shame. You know when you have a good thing like grand moms cooking or moms home made apple pie you don't mess with it, and that's what the Browns uniforms were. Timeless, tradition , a symbol of the past , a winning recipe , they were ageless and loved ,to change them is a sin.

This was the last we saw of the REAL Cleveland Browns--awesomely grungy and atmospheric Municipal Stadium, real grass and dirt, loudest most passionate crowds in the entire sport, the true Dawg Pound, this was the real thing. All this nonsense we've seen from this boring corporate "new" version is nothing but a disappointing misguided shell of what the Browns were meant to be.

I completely agree but every team is the boring new corpo version... The league evolved but true real fans didn't need it to love the game.

I was 12yrs old & went to a Browns game at old Muncipal stadium & let me tell ya, it was down right SCARY! People back then were totally different. They were grungy & ruff & wld throw down & tumble with any1 at the drop. Crazy times. People nowaday are so gentrified & tame compared to then. I cldnt imagine the 1800s in the US eeekkk

On so many of these TD returns (see some other Metcalf videos) you see Eric Turner throwing big blocks. He was their big-hittin-house-wreckin' strong safety.
I wonder what would happen if teams got back to this tactic, and threw some studs on the punt return team.

First words we hear are about Clay Matthews..."16 years of throwing his body around...sure fire Hall of Famer."
Twenty-six years later he goes into the Ring of Honor at First Energy Stadium and is more than 20 years overdue for the Hall of Fame. The voters need to get their head out of their ass and put Clay in!

I find it sad that the current (and by current I mean 20 years) version of the Browns is such a pathetic joke. For all the younger folks watching, the Browns/Steelers of these days was every bit as intense as the Ravens/Steelers rivalry of today. In fact the games were usually in a national TV slot, frequently the 4:00PM start time on Sunday evening.

I'm sure plenty has been said about Metcalf since this has been posted so whatever I say about him is redundant. However, when was the last time you saw an All-Pro Safety out on the punt return team, let alone said safety giving the block to make sure Metcalf scored? Something very lacking in football today where all the "good" players are too "good" to play any sort of special teams.

    • @bosskey7212

+Tom Agreed, back then the best players for the situation were always on the field, if you were a good blocker, you were going to be on the Special Teams
