    • @JamesHeigh
      @JamesHeigh  2 роки тому +1

      @@hotline8ling I have a hunch that it will still work as the PH315 matches and I think the second set of numbers varies based on the options and year. I have other videos of performing a fan swap, if you click my channel then click videos you will find all of them. It may help you identify yours and disassembly to the point of verifying that it will or will not work. Assuming your laptop is out of warranty, finding the exact fit or part can be challenging. Even with my swap I got a fan that was not for this generation laptop but it still works, and it has a higher (by around 3%) thermal signature, and more limited top fan speed. But those were trade offs I was willing to deal with considering that machine and the use case (for my son). Hope thats helpful, also I take an approach to maximize the ratio of [ risk | dollar spend | results ] and I find that often my risk tolerances are higher than many peoples but that is based on my years as a pc tech.

  • @shambhangal438
    @shambhangal438 Рік тому

    Just a note for anyone else having this issue; you can disassemble the fan box, and when you do, you will see that the fan rotor is not really connected to its motor - it just sits on a spindle and is kept in place by the motor's magnetism. If you lift the rotor up, clean out the dust on the vanes and add some light grease or sewing machine oil to the spindle it might work without needing a replacement. Also, be VERY careful with the rotor fan vanes - they are fragile and if you bend the metal it is impossible to bend them back such that they remain balanced and you therefore get a noisy fan rattle at speed. Oh, and not so much oil that it leaks out, as then it becomes a dust magnet - just a dab.
    Edit: found a link: ua-cam.com/video/Q5X1wWpN-QI/v-deo.html
    But don't forget to disconnect the battery before you disconnect anything from the motherboard; some fans run for a while after the CPU turns off, so their power port may be powered even when the laptop is off, which in turn means you can blow the circuit just by manually reconnecting it unless you remove the battery connection first!

      @@4x-square222 I had a similar experience, the max was nerfed but it still cooled fine. Its been a couple years now and that computer will only have issues during the summer no ac gaming. Otherwise its still fine. And the condition of overheating is basically thermal throttling so you will not get full performance but the equipment is still protected for the most part. Some people are really scared about how it affects the longevity of the chip and board but most of the time you will replace for other reasons before having an actual failure. This is a risk but for me and for the cost it was worth it. So you just have to decide if that risk is valid for you.
      Another thought, this is a great way to get by then replace with the OEM later on if you are still worried about it.

    Hello! I am in very much need of help, so if you could offer me some advice I would be very grateful. Firstly, I have to appologise for the long message and hope that you will respond to it, as I feel I pretty much reached a dead end with my research regarding this problem:
    My Acer Predator Helios 300 PH317-52 GPU fan started around a few months ago to make make a scratching sound and vibration with it. Scratching sound and vibration becomes more unnoticeable when fans run full speed, but after a while after turning them off these problems come back. I also have to mention that overheating is not a problem so far, temperatures seem to be as if the fans work normal, it's just these indicators of scratchy noise and vibration that could indicate a hardware failure or who knows what
    3 months ago, I went with the laptop on a service. They cleaned the fans, repasted, and oiled them, but all they were able to tell me is that, even if GPU fan is problematic, both fans should be replaced as soon as possible. The day I went on service was April 30th, and everything was smooth again, no sound whatsoever, no vibration, until around June 11th, when these problems once again came back.
    Lately I was looking for replacement fans, and the best I could find are some fans that I'm not sure if they are original or not, and they specify they are for PH317-52 (my laptop model), but some websites specify it's for GTX 1060 models (my GPU is RTX 2060)
    Now my questions would be:
    1: Should I replace the fans or would it be any chance of still repairing them (I was thinking if maybe the guys from the service were a bit harsh)
    2: If I am to replace the fans, is it really necesarilly to replace both of them as told on the service, even if CPU fan seems to work (and sound) just fine
    3: If I am to replace fans, would the up mentioned type of fans be good for my specific laptop?
    Also, if helpfull in any way, sometimes integrated microphone doesn't work or works badly until I filp the laptop on its back and bring it back to normal position then, witch makes me suspect that the microphone problem could also be linked to the fan problem somehow.

    • @JamesHeigh
      @JamesHeigh  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comment!
      1-When the fans wear out like this there is no viable service for the fans and they just need replaced. It’s a common issue with most fans to this day.
      2-You can just replace the one fan at a time the only downside is when it happens later you will need to open it up again and the stock fans really only last a year on average.
      3-I bet those fans will work just fine also cooling from 1060 to 2060 isn’t as big a deal as cooling the cpu so it should be fine there as well.

  • @ishimarumasaki1998
    @ishimarumasaki1998 3 роки тому

    Are you sure that turning the fans around doesn't cause problems to the fans due to the way they're seated inside their tiny box? I've already opened my system mutliple times and cleaned the fans aswell, they're seated just by magnetic force and they fit in perfectly, if they're slightly off centered, or maybe, upside down, there's a chance you might start hearing worrisome noise

    • @JamesHeigh
      @JamesHeigh  2 роки тому

      Sorry for the delay, someone died and its been busy. Because you said this was accidentally unplugged I am thinking it must be the ribbon cable near the second NVMe drive? They normally have a hard blue “handle” at the business end. Those usually have some kind of latch system (lift, or slide pressure clip) If that was indeed the case you can open that latch then plug the cable back in then reapply the latch once the line (on the cable) is in place and covered or about a one mm away from the latch. If it is a white hard plug with actual wires it would be a different process. Let me know if that helps!
