If there's 1 thing about this event I didn't expect was to see 2816 running back and forth on a bit of track as I thought she was only there for display seeing the planned excursion got canceled.

Fascinating. I didn’t know 2816 was able to move by itself. I always assumed diesels pushed it.

As a Soo Line/CP locomotive engineer (now retired) I got a chance to run the UP 6936 when it was brought temporarily into Bensenville Yard for "Railroad Daze" 2007 (think that was the year) held in downtown Franklin Park, IL two days later. The Centennial unit was idling on #68 locomotive service track at Bensenville when I thought, "gee, I'd like to run that thing just once." So, on my lunch break I invited myself aboard (after walking around the unit), took off the hand brake inside the cab, put both isolation switches to "run," popped in a reverser, released the air brakes and moved it forward about 100 feet forward and then tied the locomotive down. That was my one and only experience running it but, hey, I can say I once operated the world's largest and most powerful single unit, diesel locomotive!

WAL, UP DDA40X was at the Franklin Park, IL "Railroad Dayz" in 2010! It was June 5, 2010 as a matter of fact. I attended that event myself (from MI) and photographed UP 6936 displayed on the western end. It was nice to see the engine. Now I got 6936 for the second time in Silvis at the "Walk Amongst the Giants" event! This sure was nice!!!!!

as a Cheyenne resident, I was upset to see the DD40 and the Challenger leave the area. They are Cheyenne Icons, however it is a treat to see the big boy occasionally. the E units are still here and hopefully they never leave, I would like to see them out at some point, from what I understand, they were, at least one of them have been upgraded with a single prime mover and other newer style components. From what I understand also was the DD40 had been gone through a while back, it has been roadworthy except for a few minor things before UP donated it. The story I heard was they just didnt have any use for it at the Cheyenne facility.
thank you for the video, I hope to make it to the shop sometime

Back in the late 80s when I was working for UP as a rail train operator/supervisor on a rail train in Kansas we had to clear up for a special power move of about 30 DD40's . There were several complete units that looked as if they could be operational , then there were numerous units that were partially taken apart . There were a couple of them that barely had anything remaining . They had to stop about every 15 miles to inspect each unit and I saw them oiling the journals on the axles on one or two units . Seemed odd but that's what I was told when I asked why they were stopping . Never heard where they were headed or where they came from . Too bad I didn't have a camera or get any pictures . No cell phones either , I don't remember when cell phones came out and I'm glad we didn't have them . I was injured in March of 1990 while unloading a string of rail in the yard in North Platte and that was the last day working for UP as my injuries resulted in me being disabled and unable to do my job . I would rather have been able to work another 25 years as I was injured the day before my 41st birthday . BTW Awesome video of some really nice engines and cars .

I'm surprised a Conrail SD50 is still around in CR blue!!! It's ex-CR 6795, and it's sporting its old-school Flexicoil trucks, a defining feature of 2/3ds of CR's SD50 fleet.

Wow! I wonder what’s up with that Conrail locomotive and the ATSF Bluebonnet. I would love to see RRHMA get those if possible if they haven’t, but that’s just wishful thinking on my part. Also, what’s up with the Norfolk Southern genset?? Is that also with the museum or just one of the remaining NREX units on the property?

@@GMTX-kg8ep, NRE is still using part of the Silvis facility! They are leasing from RRHMA and this will help pay them. In a couple years, NRE will vacate entirely! I was also at this event and did the inside shop tour! The greatest was Hudson Bay Railway SD50 # 5003! I have never photographed a HBRY engine! I was so happy to finally see this HBRY SD50 inside the shop! I took excellent pictures of it on film. WOW! 😃 It had good light on the nose inside from the ceiling windows. There are still a couple of these on Illinois Railway but patched! I was told NREX is preparing to move this engine to another location! WOW!!!! Tyler, good video! I attended this event too, along with my friend "Mazon," from our home state Michigan! WOW!!!! It was great to see CP 2816 there and steaming!!!! 😲 😲 😲 😯 Even though I caught the CP "Final Spike" steam 2816 in MN/WI/IL with "Railfan" Gary Sample, I had to get it some more! We had tickets to go inside! It was amazing! The ex BNSF B40-8W (# 537) they are preparing to paint into fresh ATSF colors! This will be amazing! I am looking forward to UP 5511/3985 steam locos being re-assembled! I have photographed UP 6936 only once before. It was at Franklin Park, IL "Railroad Daze," June 5, 2010. That Chinese steam, Iowa interstate # 6988, was nice! I have seen it in operation in the past! I followed the "Triple Headed" steam trip with both Ji-Tong Chinese engines, 6988 and 7081, September 16, 2006! That was so great!!!! At the Silvis tour it was great to find NREX diesels! One engine is not in this video! I did not catch IAIS SD38s running, just the stored ones and slugs! I could not walk up to those engines and took pix on my way out! Glad to see an IC&E SD40-2 still in full ICE colors/number! Number 6100. YESS!!!! WOW!!!! WOW!!!! Any locomotive in Conrail Blue paint in 2024 is amazing! How did this SD50 survive so long? I did not even think this was here. During the June month that CR was split 25 years ago! WOW!!!!! 😁😁😁😁😁 After the Silvis event, Mazon and I went to the Galesburg, IL RR Days "V.I.P. Bus tour!" This was great! Captured lots of ex ATSF "Warbonnets" and some BN stuff too! Even a display engine at the Amtrak station was BNSF "Warbonnet" C44-9W # 720! Later Mazon and I followed the CPKC "Final Spike" train up to Bellevue, Iowa. I hauled myself and five cameras, tripods and chair to the shoulder of Route 52! I use only film cameras of both 35mm and 120 Medium Format. I also do S-VHS videos! 😉
