You are right about not stressing over your first rod, any cheap rod will do for your first few times. I fish at a pier and sometimes the only people catching consistently all day are the little kids with their spiderman fishing set. Anything will work!
I just got back to fishing after 15 long years. This guide refreshed my memory as everything was explained thourougly. Thank you for sharing! Cheers from Japan. 🍻
Great advice! I've used all those lures and they work. The rod and reel combo was spot on for inshore. If you guys start with a cheap combo and then want to upgrade later, do it, and then that can become your bait catching rod. Great video
Thank you for this guide from a Tampa girl who wants to learn a new way to take advantage of all the water around us! I don't know anyone who's into fishing so this was an awesome resource!
The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!
Thanks so much, taking my first trip to Hilton Head Island to do pier and off shore fishing and this helped me cut down and what I needed to add to my gear. Explanation was some of the best I have seen yet!
As basic as this video needed to be, starting off with information about proper licensing to start with to me was a great way to start people in the right direction! And basic was not a negative observation, great video
Coming down January to March and want to fish. Thanks for the info. Very helpful. My wife wants me to catch supper for us several times a week. LOL Thanks again.
Freshwater fished DECADES ago. Moved to FL and starting to saltwater fish. Really enjoy your basics and intro video for learning. Lots of talk about knots and line tying. What about swivels? Ease of use was my old thinking. Is that a no-no for saltwater use? Any intro or reintro videos in my case are greatly appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Just went fishing in Marco Island in saltwater(my dad’s first time fishing). My father caught a bonnethead shark on his last cast. We brought it in but figured we couldn’t keep it because it was pregnant. But he still got his picture!
The rod and reel is very op. I was using a 1$ full plastic chinese reel and I used it for a year (40-50 trips). You will learn much in a year of just fishing
THANK YOU FOR HELP , JUST GETTING STARTED , AND WITH THIS INFORMATION YOU GAVE I'AM READY JUST NEED NEW LINE ON REELS THANKS GORD FROM CALGARY ALBERTA CANADA 🇨🇦 😀
We in Portugal do need fishing license by law but i never bought one ,what we do is go to some hidden beaches and never had a problem with game wardens sometimes they pass by us in a boat and never had an issue im 23 and have been fishing since i was a little boy Anyways, See Ya Dude!🤘 mate!🤘
Can you or do you have a pole rigging video? I’ve got all the info. I just have no idea what I’m doing or what I need to rig properly or if I need to cut the line
THIS IS AN AWSOME VIDEO,,,IM TRYING TO GET IN TO FISHING WITH MY YOUNG SON BUT HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO BUY TO START WITH...KEEP THEM VIDEOS COMING... THANKS
@@moorepr09 honestly dude i been here going on two years, im STILL learning and still feel like a newbie! Maybe we can link up and find some spots togther? I use the fishbrain app alot bc i know nothing 😩
Nice info, one more lure recommendation from me, metal lures like jig / spoon, so it will be your best 5 lure. Best lure for bluefish, macks, bonito, queenfish other pelagic fish.
fyi.. the link to the circle hooks points to the fluoro leader (the fluoro leader does too, so its right.) great video. amateur here. bought all of the lures here... much appreciated.
Where we fish in Brazil, I’ve never seen anyone using a reel. They all just wind the nylon round a piece of card wrapped in selotape. They catch fish to sell. We wrapped ours round a flip-flop. Just had to walk home barefoot.
Just found your channel. Trying to learn how to saltwater fish I've had hardly any luck catching anything worth keeping. New sub hoping to learn it's hard for me to go out to were they really are I'm disabled wheelchair bound so I'm pretty much restricted to piers and icw banks
Thank you for this video I have done a small amount of freshwater fishing(not much, but some) and my family is moving to Florida near Pensacola and I have heard that saltwater fishing is less boring the freshwater fishing(That is a big reason why I almost never went freshwater fishing)
Good info, can't believe I never thought of fishing reports. Hear them all the time on the radio for the local lakes. Any tips on getting more time on the water too lol!
Brent - I really really appreciate this. New to Tampa and new to fishing. I was wasting a ton of time online looking for a starter-lists then I found this. If you have a patreon page, lemme know - I'll buy you a beer.
I got lucky with my rod and reel combo. I work in sanitation so I managed to find a 9.5 foot rod that was barely used and got a reel from Dicks on clearance for $25 and a 40 lb braided line also in clearance so total investment was like $35
In the UK we only need a rod licence for fresh water fishing ie a coarse and trout and a salmon and and sea trout all sea fishing is mainly done with baits like black lug worm squid and prawns and crabs plus the best time for fishing is in winter if you want cod or Whiting you should watch on UA-cam how we fish over here
Thanks for the video bro. I am excited to start fishing. Got my salt and freshwater license today and wanted to know what do I need to start. You basically touched everything. Can you make a video about what is allowed to cath and when? I watched some videos and it seemed like you need to catch the right size, the right fish 🐟 and everything. I don't really know the rules and don't want to get into troubles. Thanks
Wow this was super helpful!! He went over literally everything, as soon as I was questioning what hooks to use he hit that topic next! My only question is, do you think these lures and braid would do just as good of a job for saltwater bay fishing? I have the exact same rod (ugly stick elite) I am going to purchase the sienna reel because of your video!
You are right about not stressing over your first rod, any cheap rod will do for your first few times. I fish at a pier and sometimes the only people catching consistently all day are the little kids with their spiderman fishing set. Anything will work!
Actually the perfect beginners rundown to salt water fishing 💯

Brent, thanks for taking the time to teach. I appreciate your patience and really breaking things down for us beginners. Don't change a thing man!
Thank you!
Good stuff. You're right about your starting part: fishing license is the most important.
This is the best advice I have ever heard. Simple and easy to understand. Will be watching the the rest of your other vids.
Just ordered everything in this video, can’t wait for it to come🙏

Verity is the spice of life and fishing, well known what I mean 👍Thanks for helping us beginner's have a better understanding.
Yes... I don't need to go to the local tackle shops to find where to fish, your channel has plenty of info!!!
Good point haha thanks!

I just moved to the Clearwater area. This video would’ve saved me some time but I did put together a very similar list of gear. Good video.
I'm in clearwater to, whats been working for you?
This is such an underrated channel
Thank you for starting list with fishing license! I feel like im doing all the right things but need to find the right spot! thanks for the tips!
Some good advice. One thing you might add is no matter what the price of your rig is take care of it, salt water isn’t good for any thing.
Dude this was a huge help. Ive been living in Taiwan and want to start fishing these coasts. thanks!
Helpful video. I'm moving down to Tampa and I'm looking for a new hobby. Thank you!
Bro. Hell of a video. You answered all of my questions and I’m just looking to get out there and catch something. Thank you

Excellent video thanks for the tips. I'm getting my first setup tomorrow at a local shop in Bklyn. Hopefully they got the goodies you requested.
What setup did you end up getting? I’m from BK looking to start fishing at Canarsie pier
I would love to see a video on the different tackle boxes you use.
Even for an experienced angler, there’s nothing wrong with a good budget combo! Great video!
Bro really enjoyed the video and the content is great. Saved it to remember the lures u mentioned.
Nice info, one more lure recommendation from me, metal lures like jig / spoon, so it will be your best 5 lure. Best lure for bluefish, macks, bonito, queenfish other pelagic fish.
Thanks for this. Just moved to Zephryhills and looking to do some saltwater fishing.
