- King Crimson - EPITAPH - live (In The Court of the Crimson King) feat. Steve Hackett & Greg Lake
Steve Hackett - The Tokyo Tapes; Steve Hackett, John Wetton, Chester Thompson, Ian Mc Donald, Julian Colbeck
The rusted chains of prison moons
Are shattered by the sun.
I walk a road, horizons change
The tournament's begun.
The purple piper plays his tune,
The choir softly sing;
Three lullabies in an ancient tongue,
For the court of the crimson king.
The keeper of the city keys
Puts shutters on the dreams.
I wait outside the pilgrim's door
With insufficient schemes.
The black queen chants
the funeral march,
The cracked brass bells will ring;
To summon back the fire witch
To the court of the crimson king.
The gardener plants an evergreen
Whilst trampling on a flower.
I chase the wind of a prism ship
To taste the sweet and sour.
The pattern juggler lifts his hand;
The orchestra begin.
As slowly turns the grinding wheel
In the court of the crimson king.
On soft gray mornings widows cry
The wise men share a joke;
I run to grasp divining signs
To satisfy the hoax.
The yellow jester does not play
But gently pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the crimson king
It's definitely not the song I was looking for, but damn I love this song too, and this performance was perfect.
OK so the title is misleading...but these guys are totally slaying this song - what a pleasure to listen to.
They did..just found this clip..amazing
Yeah, its crazy how good this is
Not Greg Lake.
Not Epitaph.
Steve Hackett, Ian Mcdonald, John Wetton playing "In the Court of the Crimson King"
Great drumming!
That was driving me crazy.. asking myself what year this cd possibly e.. how GL cd have changed that much.. "boy, he's aged!" So, thank you.
So true and never again RIP Greg...
Oh it's to despite Mr. Fripp

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Greg lake R.I.P is the best singer ever. he is divine. his voice is magic
The singer here is John Wetton not Greg Lake!
And it's not the voice that is important. It's the formidable predictive words for the situation mankind is in now. And the incredible melody, arrangement and lyrics that this is expressed in.
It was the most melancholic song I had ever heard when I first heard it 50+ years ago and it still is.
I'm 66 years old and though I've heard of most bands, not this one .Man,those guys are great.
This takes me back to the summer of 69, that first time when we could see the craters on the moon and didn't need a telescope.
Nothing wrong with Wetton but this IS Greg’s song and no one can sing it like he did, RIP… you will be forever missed!
Absolutely agree!!!
One of the best of King Crimson,;Best on the world!!!
Great drummer!!
The Most Beautiful Flute Tune in the universe.
What an absolutely Olympian line-up.
Greg Lake has died Wednesday Dec. 7th 2016 . His memory will live on. This version though is not sung by Greg Lake.
The most beautiful "rock"song ever written...
"In The Court Of The Crimson King"- The Steve Hackett Band, live in Tokyo, Japan, 1997 with John Wetton & Ian McDonald
Hmmmmm....Greg Lake was alive & well in '97...........
@@beatlesrgear I doubt Lake would have had any interest in touring with Steve Hackett.
Thank you so much! I’m just starting down the KC rabbit hole & was looking for this comment!!
BRILLIANT..R.I.P JOHN WETTON
Just a fantastic track !
i thought i was about to see lake and wetton playing together, would have been badass, clickbait title
the best version of drums at this tune since Mr.Giles........ Chapeaux Chester !!
Thank you
Great stuff thanks for posting! Saw the real Greg Lake and his band do the song live! Whoa…….. right in the front row!!
Man, you saw a bass player's bass player!
"IN MEMORIAM" IAN McDONALD (KING CRIMSON / FOREIGNER) (1946-2022)
Outstanding. Met John Wetton in May 96'. Great guy. Great video.
Great version, thanks for posting. No problem with Steve for Robert, Chester for Bruford and Greg couldn't be here since JW also sings and pays bass. This is As Good as it Can Get
It's been years and the title is still 100% wrong. Wrong song, wrong band... Wtf?
The drummer. Jesus.
Yes Chester Thompson...One of the greats!!
Man does bring back memories
The lyrics are sublime....
Number 1!!!
Wetton can’t hold a candle to Greg Lake, may be rest in peace.
First, Greg Lake and now John Wetton!!! RIP!!!
Meravigliosa interpretazione live. Personalmente la più intensa e magica. I love John ! ( sorella di Saro)
Woooow….😍😍😍😍 Thank youuuu…🥰🥰🥰😍😍😘
Qui ragazzi siamo a livelli molto alti!!!👏👏👏👏👏
direi il TOP
I actually like this better than the 2005 Greg Lake version you find on UA-cam. Wetton reminds me a bit of Russel Crowe here... probably the lighting.
I knew it!!! I knew that Steve could play with Crimson!!! I now have the PROOF!!!! Yes!!!!
Thank you very much for putting this up. The music is just awesome. If possible, I would definitely like to see this in HD.
The Steve Hackett Band/ The Tokyo Tapes (1997)
"In The Court Of The Crimson King" (McDonald/ Sinfield)
John Wetton, Ian McDonald, Julian Colbeck, Chester Thompson, Hackett
Correct name of recording source and band line-up.
Oh that was GOOD!
This song is not 'Epitaph'... This is 'In the Court of the Crimson King' :)
Tha song belongs to the concert TOKIO TAPES and ist' The Court of the Crimson King. Steve Hackett, John Wetton, Chester Thomson, Julian Colbeck and Ian McDonald
Yup no Lake in there.
Wrong, it is In the Court of the Crimson King. It's not Epitaph. Correct, though, that it belongs to Tokyo (not Tokio) Tapes.
Looks like Chester Thompson on drums
Hackett should have played with King Crimson more……would love to hear his songwriting mixed with theirs
I have this Hackett DVD , excellent!! Although Greg Lake is NOT on this tour or this Video. Yes I know he sang on the original KC album Court of the Crimson King,
Podoba mi się.
I was lucky enough to meet Chester Thompson once and I had this DVD I asked him to sign. He looked at it and said "that thing?" lol. Not sure whether he was dissing it or saying "you must be a real fan". lol
Steve Hackett...in for Robert Fripp....John Wetton.....in for Greg Lake.....Chester Thompson.... in for Michael Giles.... Ian McDonald in for himself......and veteran keyboardist...Julian Colbeck...on Keyboards....An Awesome Performance.
looks like the 90's. Chester Thompson (long time live drummer of Genesis), Steve Hackett (Genesis 70-77) Wetton (Crimson singer 72-74?) Ian Mc Donald (Crimson on first, maybe second album)
awesome
WOW... Wetton sounds a lot like Greg Lake..!
You gotta Love this version..!
Frippless.@^@
Dream Band: Bill Bruford: Percussion, Steve Hackett: Guitars, Keyboards: Rick Wakeman, Bass: Chris Squire, Vocals: Peter Gabriel
Yes, it's Wetton but damn is he underrated
Julian Colbeck is the keyboard player. Great DVD!
Magnificent. A fine band. Hackett and Wetton. Wonderful. It is a tragedy young people don't listen to this instead of the rubbish that is so popular today.
that's what my parents said about Beethoven. Of course though. they were kind of right.
I know a 17 yr old that LOVES this band
Wetton is the ONLY one who could replace Greg Lake on vocals.
What am I missing here... who sees Greg Lake in this video???
I'm not sure about just what this is, its not King Crimson proper but it is a fine rendition of "In The Court of the Crimson King" and it appears to be John Wetton and perhaps Steve Hackett. But it is a fine rendition.
The source of this video is tagged beneath it- it is Steve Hackett and his band, with John Wetton playing bass guitar and singing. Greg Lake did not appear at this concert, or indeed any Steve Hackett concert as a member of his band. Not sure why the original poster simply does not re-title it, as it is properly annotated anyway.
DarkeningSkies1 Agree...
+DarkeningSkies1 so this is late king crimson lineup?
Timmy Y No, as stated above this is the Steve Hackett Band from 1997. The only musicians in this video who played in King Crimson are John Wetton (1972-1974) and Ian McDonald (1969), so not even together! ;)
SHUT THE FUCK UP AND ENJOY THIS AMAZING TUNE! Who gives a fuck if it's not king crimson? Wetton was part of it, so did hackett. It's just ridiculous to keep saying it's not epitaph, if you know it's not epitaph well great for you to me this sounds just as beautiful as well.
Lake or Wetton--either are better than anything else under the name "King Crimson." Even Fripp's guitar contribution appears a replaceable thing, as evinced by this performance. Obviously there's no KC without Fripp, but the original material holds up great here with Hackett standing in for him, while the Crimson incarnations of the last 35 years (i.e., post-strong lead singer/songwriter/frontman) have been, well, less musically important in the way this stuff was/is. Thanks for posting!
@electrok The history of the band ! :)
Donde esta Greg Lake???????? Era imposible juntar tanta luz...
+Elektrok, you are wrong all over the place. 1. It's not King Crimson, though it's their song. It's Steve Hackett's band. 2. It's not Epitaph. It's In the Court of the Crimson King. 3. Greg Lake is not on here, John Wetton is.
2023 whos here ?
No lake kids !! sounds like a 73'-74' version would be like accept for no Bruford "rimshots" !.
That's actually the name of the album. The song is called "The Court of the Crimson King".
Lush. Intense. Brilliant.
tnx !!
No Fripp????. No Lake??. It does sound pretty good
This is prog rock!
........thats john wetton and this is in the court of the crimson king not epitaph.
@Colonic82 concisely and well said
Epitaph was the song before this one but I don't know why they labelled that but put on In the Court of the Crimson King. But a great song anyway.
John Wetton is the best.
Qué dicha estar vivo =)
This is not greg lake
Love
Niepokalana
Jezu
Greg also doesn't play the bass , great flute at 4:20
IRA FREEDMAN
Is John Wetton on vocals and bass guitar.
The title is wrong.
rip john wetton rip greg lake
The drums are light and just in time with the tempo.
I'd like to see some deviations in the timing.
Nice
thats Wetton singing...not LAKE
*****
AH I miss the70's And I can hear Greg singing
The singer is John Wetton
Where is Lake? I only see Wetton and he IS singing. Lake is pudgy by then.
unreal
@Agent99 Absolutely correct!!
To najpiekniejsze dzielo po NAPOLEONIE BONAPARTE jakie wydal wszechswiat
Where is Greg Lake?
A magnificent performance by magnificent musicians!
But (I'm sorry to say) You lied to us. There is no Greg Lake on that stage.
There is no break where all are silent, then the cymbal is tapped, and the keyboard flutes takes us slowly back to the full volume. Why?!!!
@electrok YES ! :)
Epitaffio
E ridere
Ma ho paura che domani starò piangendo
Si, ho paura che domani starò piangendo
Grazie
Not sure how you could screw up the title so bad.... wrong song, wrong vocalist. Nevertheless, great version and Chester crushed it!
John Wetton...!!!
Terrific video but you need to fix the name. This is In the Court of the Crimson King being sung by John Wetton.
hello i am looking for video with cementar and cat i saw in some spanish side if someone have it late me know please please!!!!!!
False advertising. I'ts Wetton not Lake. And the title isn't even right, this is only In The Court Of The Crimson King....
sweet smoke
Colonic82 is correct on all counts and one might add that Robert Fripp IS King Crimson so he would be a necessary ingredient if one wanted to use the name. Wetton is great (but hardly has Lake's vocal abilty) as is evidenced on Red, but without Bill Bruford much less Fripp...
Anyway Hacket is amazing live and Chester Thompson is pretty damn good but that's Genesis and this isn'treally King Crimson
