Sadly his puzzle ability is awful. He would've easily made it with common sense. No idea why the clearrate is that low. It's pretty easy and really short.

16:42 I don't think it matters where the tape is when you hit the goal. In SMM1 you had to touch the tape to win, but in SMM2 you only have to reach the goal.

But does the run even matter at all? There is no goal or achievement at all. Just random amount of levels in a row.

On today's episode of "Night Ground Theme Explained" power-ups.
1-ups: Goes rotten and chases you. If you get a star they run away from you.
Super Mushroom and BIG Mushroom: jumps around actively trying to avoid you.
Fire Flower: *Ed, Edd, n Eddy voices* Run Away!
SMB2 Mushroom: Jumps when you jump.
Tanuki Leaf: Inverted gravity. AKA it falls up.
Frog Suit: Hops randomly.
Cape Feather: Wide swooping motion.
P-Balloon: Does loop de loops while deflating until it runs out of air and disappears.
Propeller Cap: Flies sporadically.
Super Acorn: Jumps variable hights.
Superstar, Master Sword, and Superball Flower have no difference in their behavior and 3D World doesn't have night so no difference in the power-ups. Even if you glitch the Angry Sun/Moon into the 3D World ground theme only the power-ups that exist in other styles change behavior, and the Rotten Mushroom turns invisible because it doesn't have a model. Glitching other power-ups into 3D World just turns them into the Cat Bell or Boomerang Flower. Master Sword turns into a Super Mushroom and Superball Flower turns into a Fire Flower. Super Hammer only works if obtained from a checkpoint in NSMBU style, you can't summon crates but you can kill enemies with your invisible telekinetic hammer since there's no model or animation for it. If you just place a hammer in the level it disappears upon loading.
the funny thing is I know most of that, from watching RYU play SMM2.

Serial capitals are for acronýms; this game has no tanuki.
14* pipes × 30* coins each = 420* coins total.
*I know there's 15 red pipes but one was dispensing stars and the green one was empty.
*Pipes, Bill blasters, and Lakitu only give 30 coins, in three sets of ten, when set to dispense them regardless of the condition. Unlike with enemies, where ten total spawn if there's a condition and if they despawn will continue spawning until ten are defeated, missing a coin means you missed a coin and need to restart if it's an "all" condition.

Had the same thought, might have been recorded after playing some downloaded SMM1 levels not long before.
No. The goal is 3 blocks wide. In MM2 touching the middle of the goal will get the goal regardless of where the tape is. But you can still stand in the posts on either side. The middle was blocked off so the only way to win was to touch the tape.
The single-screen troll level is where we learn that Ryu has never played a nighttime level before.
I **think** the level is supposed to be possible without the end pipe. Maybe it’s there as an option for the non hardcore players…

You did NOT get lucky, you subconscious Mario Master timed the flower jump! 😂
On that first level, my (fairly rough) estimate is only ~280-300 attainable coins from melting the ice blocks, not including the bottom row of blocks needed to walk on after using the reset door.
I don't feel like individually counting them all but I'd be shocked if it's doable, even with melting the maximum amount of blocks while maintaining enough ground to progress in the level. Which sucks because I really liked that concept.

I was at a Circle K (Convenience Store) only it was being converted back into a Valero which was the older version.
The store was stripped mostly with just bare concrete but still food and stuff plus like the drink machines.
It was night time of course. I was checking out the merchandise and you called out to me like you knew me but yah don't and never will.
