  • Just driving home and seen this sad 1969 Mercury Cougar, I knew I had to save it. It sat in the same place we rescued the 1976 Lincoln. After it was pulled out of the warehouse it was for sale about a mile down the street from my shop. Does this car still Get Down? Does it have any fun left in it? I think it may........

    Fantastic find. Cougars and Mavericks are basically unknown to the younger car generation. Remember the Eliminators, two guys in high school had them, one was green and the other was red. Badassed rides.

      I have a very close friend who is very much a cougar. Very petite & pretty, we have been mistaken for a married couple a few times (we have known each other for years), even with my younger daughter who is tall & blonde. Funny thing? She makes about $200k a year

    Wheel covers are late '70s - early '80s Ford, used on Fairmonts, Zephyrs, Fox Mustangs, etc. Vinyl top is definitely aftermarket with the strange lower routing pattern.

    I owned/drive to high school junior year a '69 Cougar drop top w/a 351C 2 bbl in '78. It was a very strong running engine and transmission. It had the sequential rear turn signals. Very rare find these days.

  • @lloydgreen4091
    @lloydgreen4091 3 роки тому +6

    Hey Brad, those are called Sequential tail lights. Shelby Mustangs also had them. That FULL vinyl roof is Not a Landau roof. A Landau roof from that era, the Vinyl was covering Only the rear Half of the roof.
    Sad to say there's not that Big of following for the Cougars, kinda like late '50s & up T-Birds. If you find someone who loves it more than you, don't be afraid to flip it so it will get taken care of & loved, & use the $$$ for your other builds.
    Actually the TWO Gems you've got are the Doug Headers!!! & the Vintage Rail Dragster. I know it's unbelievable, But it's True. You should be able to find a good home for the Cougar easily. Remember... ALL Cougars Require a lot of Upkeep !! LOL Again Thank you for Your Service.

    I always shoot some PB Blaster in the cylinders, then add a little two stroke oil on top of that, if the engine has been sitting and not run for years. At the very least, if it spins freely with a breaker bar, I give that first crank with two stroke mix gas, just to make sure everything is getting some lubrication after sitting dry all that time. That car is in great shape, might wanna give her some love on that roof and body/paint. I'm not a fan of vinyl roofs, but maybe peel that one off and see what you're workin with....might be able to paint it. That ending though? Bo and Luke would be proud! 😁

    The unique landau portion of the vinyl roof extending down the top of the quarter is a rare aftermarket accessory. The goofy t-bird s things on the xr-7 qtr medallion's not sure if their rare ?. I've seen 2 other cougars in the past 25 years with that same top. Not sure if it was a factory or a dealer add on?. Rare none the less. (Preserve it as from the corner down is all different from the standard vinyl top.) Do you let your boy rip around in these cars a little? That's how I learned to drive! In an old rusty Studebaker Hawk GT on the farm I grew up on I was 11 years old and I was in a 30 acre field with nothing to hit I pulled into the field and floored it and held it there I learned to drive flat out and sideways!

      Danny, I’m so upset! I woke that kid up at 8:00 and told him we are going to have the best time with you this Cougar. I was going to let him cut loose and all that stuff. We got it out there to my friend Jeff’s house, ripped it for literally 20 min and that was the end of it! I was a little sad, but I had all these different vids I wanted to do, and what you see is about what I could make of the footage. Man I’ll do better on the next one, no doubt!

    what’s the most that you have found inside a car on cleanup. It reminds me of my second uncle , he used to drive around with $10k in the trunk in his. LTD “for emergencies” I have been waiting for him to forget what he did.

      Hahaha, I talk about that in some of my videos around here. Honestly for as many cars that I’ve had besides the usual change and tools, I really never found anything that blows me away. I think when I was stationed up in DC, doing cars I found a silver chain in the back floor. I do find a lot of combs though. Lol

    I would flush the rad and engine right out and put fresh stuff in there because not knowing how old the coolant is in the rad and engine and the coolant crystallize and plugs shit up after a while from sitting and can cause overheating issues. That's what I do to cars that I'm going to be running then I know the rad and engine is flushed all the rust and crap is all out and it has new coolant in it that way it's not 10 or 20 year old coolant that is not really good anymore in it.

    • @PoorBoysGarageUSMC

      I did all that….I wish I could show all the stuff I did on the video, but I have to condense 8 hours of vid footage to 40 min, and even that is to long… but it was changed
