Barry and Jen are very close people best friends love the look on Barry’s face when he was talking about Jen moving out it choked him for a few minutes!! Nice to see good people with a passion for muscle cars love this show
I'm not a paint and body man nor have I owned a speed shop. Placing the desired wheels with the rubber that meets the road an art form in itself. I appreciate this show for I'm taking notes, names and numbers for, when I show my money toward the build I desire I will assure the best deal!
I remember when I was a high school kid, and buying and selling cars every 6 months, I bought several cars, RUNNING and state-inspected, for 1 or 2 hundred bucks. To see Barry spend over a grand for these old wrecks is just amazing.
Ive had many of these cougars including 68 1/2 428 4spd R code holman moody prepped pace car...Legend tells there were 40 made, used as southern track pace cars then local Ford dealers could bid on it after the race.
THE NARRATOR IS MAKING ME CRAZY, HE REPEATS HIMSELF OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN LIKE A BROKEN RECORD !! SHOWING FLASH SLIDES OF AN AUCTION LIKE NOBODY'S EVER SEEN AN AUCTION BEFORE.
No race fans that week it seems, not with the money anyway. Sure, Nascar and Petty stand out but to be a real race enthusiast and know about Gurney and those XR-7G's takes a bit, not to mention the Le Mans racing he did in the Ford GT. That guy really did get a deal, it's a one of a kind reproduction, signed and in perfect road condition. Man...it's just awesome.
my first car was a 1967 Mercury Cougar Dan Gurney special it had the 6.5 390 and all the heavy-duty suspension heavy duty C6 transmission 385 gears from zero to a hundred nothing could touch it the fastest car I ever owned unfortunately it rusted out the front clip the only thing that was holding it together was the motor mounts and transmission mounts at that time I had to junk the car as there were no reproduction parts or no Heavy Duty Parts nothing was available I pulled everything out of the car and bought another one and the one I bought had a pink block boss in it with A2 Barrel on it put a 4 Barrel on it and it was a pretty fast car on its own
Who grew up around Riverside Calif Race track? I remember 200 and Winston 500 we could just walk to the track and walk in and watch the races. Those were the days never be again.Nascar ruin the race scene.
I fucking love this show im just turning 15 but have always loved cars my dad is fixing up a 1969 dodge charger for me to drive when i turn 16 i cant wait
Take care and respect the power..I have a 66 mustang with 575 hp and a 69 camero..I'm probably at least your dads age if not older and I still get on it sometimes..so I say with all the respect to you and your age ..just be careful..but have fun...and keep that car forever..great wishes to you! Oh and work on it with your dad some day he won't be here...but the memories will..
Gurney is easily one of my top 3 favorite racers of all time for various reasons; not the least of which being his contribution to victory circle etiquette (or lack thereof, depending on who is being asked) of the champagne shower for EVERYONE!! At the time that included Henry Ford II, who was nonplussed by the shower but given his extreme pleasure at winning Le Mans Gurney wasn't executed summarily (jk in case you can't tell).
So it's a show about a group of guys who've been restoring cars for many years who buy classic cars too close to an auction's deadline and then stress out over the fact that they have very little time to complete the vehicle when they always show up in poor condition and then stress out over something that they know they should have started much sooner? Yup, sounds like they've got their shit together.
Dude it's all fake. they have plenty of time, but act like the deadline is close to create a conflict/resolution scenario for tv. If they've been doing this for years they know what they're doing.
The worst thing that Mercury did to the pony car was putting the damned vinyl tops on them, because they were unnecessary, and caused the bodies to rot out under the rear window and further down the inside of the rear quarters. With the original 7 liter , 428 motor that put out nearly 1 horsepower per cubic inch, the Cougar XR7 or Eliminator versions of these awesome muscle cars could not afford weakened structures from rust issues, - ESPECIALLY if anyone thinks of RACING the car!
cant these guys weld or what?, rear scuttle, rear parcel shelf and quarter repair panels i could have welded that in two days, yes thats 2 days but the first shell needed less bodywork so it balances out. all they want to do is bolt shit on lol.
I am going to say i all most bet my cougar is in the exact spot i parked it in a weed patch some 30 years ago. I cannot remember the exact year it was, 67, 68, or 69.. was bought motorless and trany less. I put a 351 M block in it and never drove it. Then dad passed and we hadda clean tye farm. I moved it to a friends farm and sure it is still there.
don't hire Barry? dude are you fucking stupid . what you think you can do a better job? Barry one of top car builders out there . do you have a car repair chop like Barry yeah i dont think so.. what dumb fuck. he really thinks he can do a better job . LMFAO
I love the cougar of that shape, too bad that they did nt just resto-mod, although it was an original idea, the result fails a bit short as a sunday car. the more I look at the show, the more I hate the deadline - cut corner concept. it s supposed to make action, but, it just suggest a piss poor job on the cars to make a fast buck. I guess that auctions are great for crappy jobs, as, the customer has no warranty - recourse if it breaks.
Experienced people , with years and years of experience buying a rusted car as a starting point? Sounds like they were looking for something, ANYTHING, to make a quick buck. No removal of shock towers. No conversion to rack-and-pinion steering. No subframe connectors in a car making 500 hp. Just a bunch of bolt on parts, in a hurry, to make a buck. No drive shaft safety hoop. no limited slip differential. I don't think that a resto-mod should be sold for nearly $40 grand, and not have been finished off without these things done. It's not a restoration and it's not a finished resto-mod. They should have planned this out sooner, not be in such a rush to finish quickly and then be disappointed in the sale price. It's their own fault for planning this project so close to the auction deadline. It's a cool show, but I'm not happy that such a major job was done in such a rushed fashion.
I still dont get why: - they didn't see that rust before buying the first car - does he feel forced so sell that car in an auction with no reserve and almost lose money. C'mon weeks of work for just 5 grand?
A lot for sure, that was not my point. Overhaulin didin't even charge the target for their work, and still didn't whine about money or a car that's almost impossible to fix.
Great car; Do you people know that NHRA has completely eliminated Mercury from the stock and super stock programs !!! Cars like these cannot compete at NHRA events !!!
I'll never be at an auction like this, but if I were and one of those "cheerleader" jagoffs started to get in my face while I was bidding, he'd learn what a real asshole was.
Wow, this a crap build, and why I'd never buy a car at auction. For those who don't know - this is the equivalent to those jackballs who are always trying to 'flip' houses by buying something older and quickly painting and tossing in some new appliances to see if any suckers (buyers) will bite. This was exactly the same. They took a old Cougar added some quick bolt on suspension upgrades, didn't add subframe connectors, yea they added a rollbar which renders the back seat completely useless. To top it off, they completely cut corners on the interior - installing cheap fiberglass seats, instead of true racing seats! Everything the McCloud guy was telling him about imbalance is well known to ford guys who actually build their own stuff. It shows Barry and his shop are nothing more than "installing" (as in taking parts of a box and installing them) not true builders. And HOW MUCH do they have invested in this car? Parts -- $32,500 Labor 320 hours at what? $100/hour? (standard shop rate in California) That's another $32k. Last time I checked, all those guys in the shop sure want to be paid to work on a car. So, they are into this car at least $64,500!! It sells for $37,500 -- so they've managed to LOSE, at least, $27,000 on a classic car!! Way to go guys!! Not going to stay in business long, doing things that way! Now see why most car guys can't stand these shows! THEY ARE FAKE!!
Amen....and how u like Barry's shit for attitude, to EVERYONE. I like how they raved it had to be a '67....the first (rusty) car WAS a '67, but the one they flipped had a '68 2 spoke steering wheel and '68 side marker lights so I guess year wasn't important; because I"M SURE they wouldn't swap VIN numbers and titles LOL
I can drive better than that, and I'm 69. I grew up driving these kinds of cars in the 60s, Mustangs, Camaros, and of course my beloved 69 Dodge Charger. A friend of mine had this car. It looks nice and I'm happy to see it back on the road. Those cars from that era had muscle written all over them. I'm not a purist and I say the more you can muscle it up with new technology the better. Same with music. It was sweet in the 60s but It's gotten better over the years. New technology.
0-60 mph in 8 seconds! What the hell were you watching, snail races or molasses in winter time racing a 2 legged turtle in a snow storm??? That guy never drove anything that slow anywhere, anytime
I don't like the narrator. He puts unnecessary drama to the show. I really like how Barry felt when he found out his daughter was moving out. It shows he's a loving father and close with his daughter. Family is important.
We need a 2021 version of Wrecks to Riches

i love american muscle cars. Damn they look so amazing on the road like a beast walking on the streets.
@Vickie Hadd yup. They do.
Any performance car made before 1970 is my kind of car. Newer cars are all cookie cutters, no love in design.
THE NARRATOR IS MAKING ME CRAZY, HE REPEATS HIMSELF OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN LIKE A BROKEN RECORD !! SHOWING FLASH SLIDES OF AN AUCTION LIKE NOBODY'S EVER SEEN AN AUCTION BEFORE.
If you look close, you'll see it's the same two auctions, look at the people.
No race fans that week it seems, not with the money anyway. Damn... I doubt there's many '67 DGS's around anymore but one with the 390 is rarer yet I hate rust but at least you've got some great memories..!

Im aware this is a Jon Barrett engine but unless it was broke in on the dyno I wouldn,t want it. You don't break an engine in by flogging it.
Yeah their not that stupid right???
About time you guys put nice wheels 👌🏼👌🏼

Should of had a Reserve.....somebody got a nice street racer.....cheap...the engine & tremic were probably $15k
While Berry ..MAY BE KNOWLEDGABLE !! ..he is very abrasive !
Pro Tip: just skip the occasional 30s where they show some random auction. Much more enjoyable now :D

these shows all have fake ass deadlines to create suspense, interest etc... duh
Truth is they have about half dozen cars going at once for the “auction” and show content.
Exactly. Stressing about getting the car done? don't have crazy tight deadlines. Greed pure and simple.

holy fuck, seriously..? ex dregster, car builder didn't know anything about manual gearbox..??
Wtf is a dregster?
That's difference between old school and new school transmissions; auto or manual.
