I was 6 when this happened, I'm from California but by pure coincidence this lined up with our annual trip to NY to see my mom's family, all I remember is being at my Aunt's house 60 miles north of the city and not having power, then hearing about how people were stuck on subways in City and how our relatives in Connecticut (which was literally the town over) didn't have power either, when we got home my 1st grade teacher gave my mom and I the newspaper showing the entire northeast in complete darkness at night, it was so astonishing to see the scale of the event captured like that being as young as I was, it still blows my mind I was apart of that unprecedented event especially since it was right after 9/11
Who remember being in Union Square Park that night when the Pizzeria across the street was making pizzia's with flashlights and ran out of ingredients? We hung out in that park stranded all night long!
Whew, I'm so glad I was on vacation at home and not at work having to struggle get home! It was awful. Lots of rip-offs, even water was overpriced, cabs too! It was hot, no ac or fan. I slept on my balcony. It was ridiculous how the greedy behaved.
Not to worry it will happen again and more frequently because the United States government isnt going to do anything to help or prevent it. I was 11 or 12 and had no idea it happened. Oh well. 🤷🏾♀️
The very memory of my face will cause a manifestation of my being in the future. You will be asleep in bed. I will be there, and watch over you. When you wake, you will not be able to move any part of you. When the doctors eventually find you, they will not see me, but you will, and I'll see you too. Forever, I'll see you.
I was 6 years old living in Harlem when the blackout happened. I do remember that day.
